It seems they've come into this game really wanting to practice the run. Expect the Eagles to yet again be running the ball a ton this season.

Cant blame them.

Line is strong (albeit likely not as good with Steen versus Becton but word is he has looked solid in run plays). And the RB room is BETTER than it was. And we kept Goedert. And we may be keeping a fullback. I'd say the commitment to the run is there and it is real, lol.

Lastly QB1 has shown real growth in his pre-snap reads and choosing the run when it is there.

I would be floored if the mentality isn't run first and force teams to sell out or max defend it. Make life easier for Hurts.

Did you notice the QB play?

Eagles could have probably splurged on retaining Fred Johnson

The people here in the Blog who know O-Line felt that Fred was pedestrian. In other words no better than Lamm or Pryor … if as good.

Yes. That's precisely why if they didn't come into the game wanting to focus on practicing the run that they should want to throw it more. Because the QBs didn't look great and they could use the practice reps. If they were trying to win the game, you could argue that they ran it because the QBs sucked. But preseason games aren't about wins and losses, it's seeing how guys look in certain situations and getting players reps.

Fred was overrated. And he got near a vet minimum contract so I think the league saw that

This guy has been making play after play for the Lions.

He was one of the "darlings” of many on the Blog in April, but he went high in Round Three … pick 70, just 6 picks after Mukuba. If we had taken him instead of Mukuba how would everyone have felt?

Whelp, that was butt ugly. My thoughts.

We don't have a 3rd QB, if either of these guys has to play, game over. I see nothing from McCord that even said development guy, really dumbed down the offense for him. And the other guy was worse.

Thought Johnson looked pretty good at RB, PS candidate

No one stood out at WR, how could they? Same at TE.

Lamm is solid, Pryor is a RG, I'd fear for Hurts if he has to play RT, slow feet. Howie will be looking for someone if he doesn't think Lamm can play both sides.

Toth making a good case to make the team, thought he looked better than Kinnard. Kendall was solid. Hinton, Williams, and Keegan likely to be waived and stashed on PS if they're not claimed. They've shown nothing to make Howie expose someone else.

Bryant had one play in the 4th Q, other than that, he's not as stout as Hall against the run nor explosive on the pass rush.

Hall is a run first guy, but a true DT who can anchor or play 3-4 DE, but you won't get a lot of pass rush out of him.

Robinson started slow, then he must have gotten some guidance b/c he started using his hands. A 3-4 DE who needs a year to get stronger to play as a 4-3 DT.

Sykes shows promise, think they'll try to get him on the PS, same with Evans. Rogers looked like what he is, a camp body.

Ucho had a quiet game, Ojulari was caught out of position on a reverse, then redeemed himself with a nice move for a sack.

Patrick Johnson is a mediocre athlete for a DE, all he does is make plays, probably make the team off STs.

Campbell really doesn't belong in a game like this, but he needs the snaps, athletically a tier above all these second stringers.

Mondon had a nice game, probably stashed on the back of the roster and get a shot at a bigger role next year as he adds strength and experience.

Trotter plays well within his limitations, a run down ILB who'll get pulled in passing situations.

Think Bennett has the inside track now for CB2, simply a cut above Jackson and Ringo in coverage.

Brandon Johnson got a long look, a step behind but no more, too many almost plays if he was a veteran but promising for a rookie, PS material who could make a jump with experience.

Mukuba may rotate with Brown, until he gets stronger, not sure I want him in there on run downs, but in nickel/dime sets a better fit due to instincts.

Bunch of guys got PT, and will next week who we'll never hear from again. It's preseason.

Not going through 10+ pages. Depth seems really good overall. I know there are concerns at certain positions like CB2 but I don't think it's really possible for a team to be that complete after winning a SB

They know both QBs suck.

They ran the ball to look at the second string OL, due they keep 9 or 10.

That's why they played Toth and Kendall all game, with them trading off between LG and C to evaluate them.

I think they recognized the backup OL was failing to pass protect and they just resorted to all runs and quick passes without really trying all that hard to figure out what would work

I thought the protection was pretty good for the most part, the QBs just didn't see the field.

There were a few breakdowns, especially with DTR at QB, but things didn't get ugly until the 3rd stringers (Hinton, Williams) were in at OT.

I mean a week ago McKee tore up the Bengals with the same OL.

Yup. They have a generational player at RB. They are definite going to use him. Last season showed that you absolutely have to account for Barkley

If teams sellout to stop Barkley then Brown or Smith eat

Hurts is in the perfect system because you need to account for his runs too

Fair but I do think the Browns have better DL depth fwiw

This is just what I said.

McCord seems to be trending in the right direction. He seems a bit off in his accuracy. I think as he gets familiar with receivers and system he'll get better. He's not getting a lot of practice reps. That said if they went with 2 QBs and tried to get him on PS I wouldn't be upset

Well Mukuba won the starting S spot today in my opinion.

What I've been saying for two weeks won't change after today, CB 2 isn't currently on this roster. Adore and Ringo just aren't it and while Bennett is intriguing I think we need to be aiming higher than him.

Campbell will be starting early in the season if not in week one.

DTR buh-bye.

My assessment of the Defense in that game was that the Defense held the Commanders’ RBs to just 32 yards, but Jaden Daniels was able to exploit gaps in the Eagles’ Defensive Front for 81 yards, almost all of which moved the chains at crucial moments. I believe Fangio learned from that and made adjustments in how he used/deployed his light box in the remaining games of the season … especially the Super Bowl.

You are correct and that game may have very well been the wakeup call for the defense to never give up on a play, because Daniels killed them on 'off schedule' plays, and that's also Mahomes' bread and butter. He's a wizard at improv. So, maybe that was just the thing that the defense needed in the tune up for the playoffs, but no matter how you slice it... they weren't good that day. Yes, they got 5 turnovers... but STILL gave up 36 points. That's hard to do.

Interesting that they are playing Kinnard at Guard and Pryor at Tackle rather than the reverse? Any thoughts about why?

Pryor started at RT last week as well.

Fran mentioned this on PHLY, but Azeez looked slooooow out there.

Had a nice rush on the first series. QB stepped up and there was no support from the interior DL. But, he won that rep against the starting LT.

First glad they caught it now and can treat it. Secondly he’s highly likely done for the year

He was a little better than a Dhani Jones signing...

Bradberry was good too, at least for the first year.
