One game is an anecdote. I prefer data

I have hopes for Dotson this season but it certainly wouldn’t be shocking for him to underwhelm. Metchie gives you 2 legit shots at that 3rd spot

What has Dotson done to be clear top three?

Hurts never throws to the WR3, which makes this trade even more head scratching. No reason to trade for a receiver that is never going to get looks. Doesn't really matter since it's day 3 picks and a throwaway TE but still

Someone has to be WR2 if there’s an injury. This was basically a free trade.

I don't understand where the "Dotson sucks" takes are coming from. You getting that from the 20 passes thrown his way last season?

I get that argument but I think Hurts has his guys and there’s a chance he takes to Metchie which is why rotating another guy in has value. The assumptions about what Hurts will do is only based on a small sample

That's exactly why IMO it makes sense to trade Dotson. The numbers between Dotson and Metchie are nearly identical. Any value Dotson brings back is a win at this point. He's not coming back after this year.

/agree

I was thinking that a positive to this could be AJ. Metchie. Dotson or Smith. Metchie. Dotson looks better if 1 guy misses a few games.

The concern about the Eagles defense would be understandable if they had played yet. I find it hard to get myself worked up about a championship defending unit that has yet to take the field.

The WR trade is interesting. Physically talented player. I agree with those that mentioned Doston hasn’t really gotten a shot. Not a lot of passes to go around last year.

It would be great if they could get something for Dotson, I do feel like he's a bit more of a known commodity at this point but I agree his numbers are pretty easily replaced for us

Expensive and short sighted. Old overpaid talents don’t fit the plan. Its spazzing and eating the marshmallow

I would agree with you if it was for more than one year, but in the one-year scenario those down side aspects are mitigated.

However, I can agree to disagree without any problem.

I mean, is it a small sample? 3 years with AJ and Smitty, when has WR3 been even remotely relevant?

I get the point though, we know he doesn't really have a great connection with Dotson so why not take a chance on someone else when Dotson's numbers are replacement level

Johnny Wilson offers a dimension of size and physicality that no other WR brings to the table. He's a great blocking WR. He has a role on this team.

Ainias Smith is currently the starting PR./KR. We can argue his abilities all day long, but right now, he's a starting ST player and has a role on this team.

That leaves Darius Cooper and Jahan Dotson. Have we overrated Cooper based on one game and practice notes or is he the real deal? Do the Eagles have a diamond in the rough? If so, you don't let him get away.

Dotson is and always has been one of the most moveable Eagles.

Maybe Metchie can play CB

Dotson didn't see the ball last season because he was acquired late in training camp. He spent time with Hurts this offseason to build a rapport. It is reasonable to expect more from him this season.

Metchie was just acquired late in training camp.

This trade didn't cost anything and if Brown's injury becomes an issue, having another SEC WR is a good move.

The legend of Hurts never throwing to WR3 needs a caveat on my opinion. Hurts has historically had trust issues with all his new receivers, but those trust issues subside as he gets more time working with the receivers … and matures as a QB. At least I hope that is the case.

When he was actually thrown to he did fine for a 3rd WR and doesn't stink. Deserve an extension? Probably not. Good enough to not make trades like this? No. Hurts didn't look his way often, though.

Again, the dude played well and helped get them a ring. It's disrespectful to say as of today he doesn't deserve to be 3 over Wilson. Want to argue that?

This years Nasty Nate who doesn't have one catch in a regular season game? May be amazing but he is an UDFA vs a guy who made plays on the biggest stage.

Yeah my first thought was maybe Brown is expected to miss some time to start the season and another body in here competing for reps won’t hurt.

That being said, I really hope Brown doesn’t miss time. The offense really takes a step (probably two steps) back when he doesn’t play

I’m not sure what it is exactly. In reality who has he thrown to much besides AJ, Smitty and Goedert. He threw a little to Calc no one really ever established themselves

I've been accused to making Madden trade ideas, but I love to look at the players as assets. Right now, both Metchie and Dotson are on expiring contracts. Dotson isn't giving you more than 20 catches this year and there are teams out there that still might view him as WR2. Can you get a 3rd back for him? Metchie comes in and replaces his production. You keep Cooper, Wilson and Smith.

Except dotson and hurts have been working on timing and getting in sync all summer, hurts and Metchie arent going to have that same synchronicity.

Like I said weird trade.

Why would he ever play without a new deal? Makes no sense. All the risk is on him

BIGLY!!!! I was a Metchie fan in the draft. He reminded me of avant. Not the greatest athlete but just gets open.

If he doesn't sign for cheap then the Eagles will likely get a comp pick back that they wouldn't have otherwise so there's that

I’ve been thinking about this more and I’m not sure how his first year applies to his free agency status. OTC says he’ll be a RFA and Spotrac says UFA. Based on how the rules are written I would assume he’s a UFA but if for some reason he’s a RFA he doesn’t count toward the comp pick formulas if Eagles don’t tender him. The cheapest tender for a RFA next year is projected around $3.5M

2026 RD2 pick + Metchie might just do it for a 1 year rental to another SB chip 🤣
