I think Metchie does bring some dirty work stuff, but I really don’t think Wilson will be cut, unless he’s hurt and IR’d, even though I think he should be cut. But this might just be Howie continuing the trend of buying low on former high draft picks. I think it’s something Howie is going to continue to do over and over because he probably figures eventually it will net him a stud and as long as he commits to it without having to give up good compensation, he’s going to do it. And eventually when he does get that stud who figures it out, it’ll be worth sticking to that philosophy.

Why in the world would you cut Johnny Wilson? He is clearly the 4th best WR on the team and brings two things to the table none of the other guys do. 1. He is a massive WR can make contested catch's. 2. He is the best blocking WR they have and for a team who runs the ball so much that is a factor.

For a team coming out of camp with a need at WR I would think Dotson could easily have 3rd round value or the equivalent with a player. Dotson and a 3rd for a player and a 5th or something like that could might get them a good CB.

Would hate to help them, but the Chiefs WR is pretty light. Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Skyy Moore are the main targets for Mahomes.

That’s basically what he did with Mekhi.

I don’t see Wilson cut. Smith or Cooper will go and if it’s Cooper people will cry and he probably won’t get claimed based off of one preseason game

Cooper is better.

What does Wilson do well? Block? Just about any TE can provide that. His role is very replaceable.

Based on some pre-season games Greg Cooper is better, lol. He isn't the blocker Wilson is and neither is likely to factor in whatsoever in the passing game.

I don't know why this is so difficult to implement. There should be x,y,z coordinates for where the ball is on the field, as soon as an official blows the whistle, the coordinates are recorded down and that's where the ball is spotted. The intent is to speed the game up, so they need to actually implement it in a way that speeds the game up.

That actually won't be nearly as effective as you think. There will always be a delay between where the ball is when the player is "down", or forward progress is stopped and where the ball is when the whistle blows... every. single. time.

The system needs some tweaking... for the end zone that's fairly simple... just have a buzzer go off when the ball crosses the plane of the end zone, if the buzzer beats the whistle, TD, but close plays will still need to be reviewed. For example, Dotson's first catch in the Super Bowl was never ruled down until after the ball crossed the plane, but he was clearly down well short of the goal line.

The fact he only played 8 snaps yesterday makes it seem like he is on the 53.

A. He's a WR not a TE

B. For a run heavy team having a depth WR who is a really good blocker is a factor.

I like how people just throw out Hurts does not throw to the 3rd WR.

When your top 3 targets are all better than any WR3, of course you are not going to throw to WR3 that often.

Add in that Quez was Mr Dropsies and Dotson showed up on August 22nd. 33 targets was still a low number.

The 2nd/3rd WR split was 62/57 targets in 2021 before AJ arrived. (Quez and Raegor, lol)

Quez had 51 targets in 2022

The revolving door of Julio, Quez, and Zacchaeus had 60 targets in 2023

Not every offense is going to be the 2004 Colts, 2013 Broncos, or the 1999 Rams.

WR3 in Cincy had 61 targets this year. Iosivas

WRs 3 for the LA teams had 64 and 65 targets. Robinson and Palmer

I read that Metchie will be a RFA since he missed his rookie year beating cancer, so there’s that.

The lowest RFA tender for a WR is $3.5M. Unless he blows up this year which seems unlikely in this offense, I’m not sure it matters.

I will send Chris McPherson an e-mail asking him.

I looked into it more and I’m pretty sure because he was on the NFI list and it wasn’t a football injury, the year didn’t count as an accrued season.

1 year, $3.5 million if you think he can be WR3 is very cheap. We get a free look on a very cheap option for 2026.

What does he do that any third string TE can't?

Or, if he fits in here, maybe Howie gets him a cheap 3-year extension. AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts are best friends. Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean are as close as it gets. Metchie and DeVonta Smith were roommates at Bama. How do you build a culture that stays with the team year after year? You have guys that buy in. Metchie hasn't played a down yet for the Eagles and getting way ahead of myself here, but he's going to fit in so well here.

Generally cheap, yes. Cheap enough when Brown and Smith are top 10 contracts with Barkley being the highest paid RB? I dunno. They declined resigning Pascal who made $2M per year on his new deal. They moved on from Rodgers and Becton who both are pretty cheap when you factor in their relative importance. I’m not sure they just give Metchie a tender if he doesn’t have production or a solid on-field relationship with Hurts.

Best blocking WR is hyperbole. He doesn't play enough to know if he is and to earn that title.

I think it's normal for most of us to go, "What the heck?" after hearing about a trade like this. Not in a negative way, just caught off guard, but we are really lucky to have Howie, who thinks ahead the way he does.

Pascal was the big blocking WR, not a viable slot guy. Rodgers and Becton both got 2 year deals with larger guarantees than 3.5 million. 1 year, 3.5 million is basically what they gave Becton as a reclamation project for 2024. Hell, Ojulari has a 1 year, $3mm fully guaranteed deal.

AAV is less important than guaranteed money and flexibility.
