To be accurate "edge” is too general a term for what they need. 3-4 OLB is the edge subset that matches Fangio’s scheme. Huff, and to a lesser extent BG and Sweat were 4-3 DEs miscast in the 3-4 OLB role.

Can anyone please provide a definitive explanatio for the term "Edge"? It has become prevalent in usage over the last several years.

Moreover, I believe there remains an option to revert to a standard 4 D-Line within the overall Vic scheme, as I have observed it implemented numerous times this PS. It often was maned last year by BG and Sweat.

Fangio has excelled with Bradley Chubb, Josh Sweat, Jaelyn Phillips, Khalil Mack, Alden Smith, Justin Smith as 3-4 OLB/Edges. He’s just fine using guys we would normally say are DEs on the edge. It’s not like he actually asks them to cover people.

This reinforces my sentiments re: DE within Vic Defense.

Deion's kids aren't doing too well right now. I guess taking a swing at somebody didn't help Shilo's case.

He wasn't making the team regardless even if he didn't swing on someone.

But its not their faults. The NFL is clearly trying to set both his kids up to fail.....🤫

I dont think Shedeur will get cut. He is very talented but still needs alot of work in some areas. I'd be surprised if he's let go.

Kinda reminds me of Bob Brown, RT during the mid-60s. He was one fierce MFer...loved to pancake DEs. He got tired of losing under Kuharick...moved on to Rams/Raiders.

Wow. People say he is a player.

Rap sheet: QB Tanner McKee suffered a fractured thumb, per The Insiders, that will bring his availability for Week 1 in question.

Not a major injury for the clear-cut No. 2, as it’s just the top of the thumb. The Sam Howell trade likely would’ve happened anyway.

Yeah, the only way a finger injury could've had week 1 in question is if it was the thumb. Any other finger likely would've healed before the with the 2 week wait, unless it was an injury that requires surgery(it isn't).

The Eagles are such C words with their injury secrecy BS. They called it a "finger injury" just call it a Fing thumb. There is no competitive advantage. You just come off like paranoid toolbags with this crap.

I don’t think it’s gonna happen, but I think if a team came to them with a ridiculous offer for McKee it’s makes the decision to do the trade simplified (lack of better word) if you have Sam Howell to be the no. 2. Plus Sam Howell gives them a better 3rd quarterback, which was obviously needed as McCord and DTR aren’t very good or ready for that role.

Helps my theory at time he was drafted that if Dickerson or steen were out for a long period of time or steen was just not good, they might consider moving jurgens back to guard and Kendall to center to get their best 5 on the field. Don’t think Kendall is going to be an all pro or great but i think he is likely able to give them competency at C.

Makes a lot more sense now.

Different roles. Ideally every "edge" player would be a true 3-4 OLB, able to line up on the LOS or drop into coverage.

However, those are hard to find, most undersized college pass rushers aren't athletic enough or have the instincts to be credible in coverage.

Fangio has different sets, in the 4-2-5, the "edge" rushers tend to line up in a standing position, at least threatening to drop into coverage, but on passing downs they usually just rush.

So there's a role for undersized pass rushers on passing downs, especially if they at least can drop into underneath zone coverage without tripping over their feet.

This is also why Fangio has to trade off between 3-4 DEs with pass rush skills and 4-3 DTs who can stop the run in pass defense sets.

Robinson right now struggles as a DT and is more suited in a 3-4 DE role.

Hall is more stout, as is Young, but neither is much of a threat to pass rush out of the 3-4 set. And both are a bit light in the pants for NT.

Williams was an excellent pass rusher out of the 4-2-5 set, but short arms for 3-4 DE and could struggle to anchor against the run.

There's a reason someone like Carter, who can play any spot along the line, was a top 10 draft pick.

This is a snippet from Jeff McLane interviewing Kendall Lamm. I appreciate him being genuine with the response, but that response makes me want him cut immediately. I want guys who are hungry to be here, not cool with whatever happens, happens. I understand what he's saying after all the injuries he's been through and it's great he can walk away healthy now rather than retiring because of an injury. His play didn't earn him a spot and the ho-hum attitude about being here should be the writing on the wall.

Appreciated Kendall Lamm's candidness when I spoke to the veteran tackle at his locker stall after last night's preseason finale about his future with the #Eagles :

Q: Do you think you did enough to make the roster?

A: "I don't even think about that, my friend. Whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen. And to be real with you, I'm completely cool with whatever. This isn't the first rodeo for me. This is Year 11. After I had my back surgery last year, I was just thankful to be able to come out here and actually be able to move. My body feels smooth, decent enough do what I needed to do. I still feel things at times, but it allowed me to see if I can even move forward with this process in general. To be honest, that's all this thing was for me — this preseason and everything else. I told people in Miami after last year I was gonna retire after Year 10. But, of course, having it, not being able to end it the way I wanted to, I at least wanted to see if I could. So, like I said, man, I'm at peace one way or another. My life will continue to move on regardless, yes, sir."

If Howie is looking to trade for a backup QB, he doesn't want to advertise that he needs one and drive up the price.

If teams think he's just upgrading McCord, it's cheaper than if he needs a #2.

One to keep an eye on for Howie

Practice squad? Browns or somebody else's? I wonder if our friend Jerruh has seen this?

He’s been objectively the worst of the 5 QBs they’ve had in camp

Does seem like we need another piece on the o-line. Looks like we may be relying on Toth again too. Guy has like nine lives.

I'm not sure it's him, but they could sure use a swing tackle. Shame they couldn't keep Fred Johnson.
