I don't think the #1 seed is an impossibility. It's just hard. The Lions have a tough schedule too. The NFC North teams will rip each other apart. Bring it on.

Bert Bell used to make the schedule on his kitchen table.

I have sat at that kitchen table. My sister’s first boyfriend was Bert Bell’s grandson.

But I’m pretty sure it would take practice.

Hot takes:

  1. The Eagles are more likely to win the SB next year than they are to get the #1 seed. And it’s not close. I see a repeat as a great chance and the 1 seed as nearly unattainable.

  2. Winning the division will be only marginally easier, if at all, than winning the SB.

Why? Brutal schedule and they need to adjust to a lot of new personnel on defense early on. But the cream rises to the top…I see a lot of teams that could and will steal a regular season game from them, but not many (or maybe 0) that I see with a good chance to take them down in a playoff environment, home or road.

I definitely don’t agree with your second point. Washington has every bit as brutal a schedule as the Eagles have. So, unless the Cowboys or the Giants pull a rabbit out of a hat, the Eagles are better positioned to survive Murderers Row than the Commies are. Bottom-line, the Commies are nothing but a red scare.

Not really. Run it a few times? Sure. That's about it.

Yeah, the Lions are getting dozens of players back from injury which is good... but they are also getting dozens of players back from injury which makes their level of play uncertain.

I forgot how bad we got beat in that game. I mean the Eagles scored the next 34 points and gave up less than 150 yards passing but that really was a schooling put on by Tolbert and the Boys.

This is beyond absurd at this point. I used to feel guilty having Directv for an entire year just to pay more for Sunday Ticket. Thankfully, being back East i get the 17+ games that matter no matter what.

Regarding your first point, I believe the Eagles have a legitimate shot at being 8-0 at the break. The first four games are incredibly tough but I can see Sirianni getting the team focused for each one. Dallas at the home opener is easy to focus on. A Super Bowl rematch with 10 days to prepare is a clear opportunity to make a statement both within the locker room and to the league as a whole. Then the Rams at home after an offseason of "we were only one play away from the Super Bowl” is another statement game opportunity.

Win the first three and it will be understandable if there is a letdown in Tampa, but I believe in Nick, and getting revenge for last year’s beatdown should be a compelling message.

If they are 8-0 at the Bye, then the #1 seed is doable.

Practice, practice, you ain’t talking (enough) about practice.

And they have the Steichen-Gannon effect in the loss of Johnson-Glenn.

Agreed. The most likely location for the NFCCG is San Fran. They have the easiest schedule in the league.

On paper, but like the Vikings and Lions and Packers they will be paper tigers come the Playoffs

based on the success we have had, a 10 win season will probably feel like we suck. We have to remember to stay level headed going through it. Those games dont matter. Playoffs do.

This team will need to be like some NBA teams who just know how to turn it on to a whole new level in the post-season.

Not necessarily coast through regular season. But you dont want the team to be exhausted striving for a perfect record against such a brutal schedule. Save something for the end.

The alternative to coasting is being battle tested. I think I know which one Sirianni and Stoutland and Hurts and Fangio will choose.

I guess when your starting OTs are Guyton and Steele, you got to look for the positives.

Rams/Falcons/Bucs/Vikings are my guesses for who will end up with the #1 seed.

Jason Peters did a number on Suggs after that play. Beat him half to death. Suggs left the game after the next series.

P.S. The refs let JP do it, too. They knew Suggs had it coming.

Eagles get it. One game at a time. They will have the tiebreaker over the Rams/Bucs/Vikings. Vikings have a tough division and the Falcons may not win their division.

Yup...I am not quite there with you at this point...those are tough games to start the season. We have discussed the changes on defense which I believe will take time for the newcomers to mesh....but more importantly...and it seems to be going below the radar...we have a new offensive coordinator with no NFL play calling experience. If the defense isn't quite there yet at the beginning of the season, then there is going to be a real dependence on the offense to carry the load and right now...I see a big question mark.

This is stupid as hell. If a team can't win their division then tough crap. Do it on the road. Otherwise just get rid of divisions.

Regarding the new OC, the less is more approach to our Offense will work in his favor. Additionally, for better or for worse, Hurts clearly sees this as his Offense, and with the positional continuity throughout the Offense, I think the transition will be much much smoother than it was to either Johnson or Moore.

I feel like I'm watching a guy working the grill at a BBQ... if he's constantly tinkering, he doesn't know what he's doing. When did the NFL lose it's way?

That's a good analogy. It's the best sport in the world and they have to find a way to screw it up.

Every year we have teams that outperform expectations and teams that underperform. Predicting the difficulty of the schedule is even difficult. Take the NFCN. Both coordinators gone from the Lions, Vikings QB left and replacement is untested. Or the gints, who have quietly built a formidable DL. Injuries are a big unknown for all teams. The Eagles philosophy of one game at a time is logical.

Agreed - even within the season you get a wide variance; the Saints went from an offensive powerhouse to the Aints all within September (beating the boys 44-19 was appreciated).
