June 4Jun 4 Too bad we couldn't sell high on McKee like we previously did with AJ Feeley, Sam Bradford, Kevin Kolb, etc. before he got exposed. I'd be happy to get a 4th or 5th at this point.

They got Dalton cheap enough that I wouldn't put it past Howie to move him for more than he gave up.Seems to me like if the Eagles wanted to move Tanner it should have been during the draft. I don’t see any team giving up a high pick for McKee. If the plan is to move him some time prior to the season then they might want to give him as many reps as possible so he looks good during the preseason. If Jalen gets hurt, I don’t see Dalton leading the Eagles anywhere.

Tanner has done very well playing with the starters when given the chance but they don't allow even allow that in the preseason.. if Jalen sits so do the rest of the starters.

Maybe a QB gets hurt this Summer and a team comes calling with a high pick that Howie can't resist. Otherwise I'd bet he stays and nothing changes. Talking heads are just looking for the next drama now that Aj's gone...
June 5Jun 5 The trade for Dalton was baffling at the time and is still baffling...it was only a 2027 7th rounder but still felt odd. Only thing I could think of is that they hope Dalton can help Hurts learn Mannion's system or the style of QB play that Mannion's system will require. Then drafting Payton in the 5th. Those 2 moves combined would seem to indicate they anticipated trading McKee. Are they really going to carry 4 QBs? I doubt it. And unless Payton totally sucks in TC, they won't expose him to waivers. I guess we will see what happens later this summer.

Seems like McKee is the guy they wanted to keep, but you don’t trade for Dalton if you have belief in Tanner. It’s possible they thought Tanner could be a trade piece during the draft or possibly thru the start of TC and they just wanted to be prepared with a veteran on the roster just in case.

I also know he generally chooses to try and pick up a veteran qb to try and eventually flip for a pick or two of he can, but Dalton just doesn’t fit normal Howie behavior. I don’t see the plan yet and maybe I’m making a bigger deal than it needs to be, but this just doesn’t make a lot of sense.

That washington game ruined those chances.

The best chance might be to showcase him during the preseason and hope he plays w lo enough, but you would think that means he gets as many reps as possible in the meantime.

But I would have to imagine evaluators would be considering that he played with backups (and assess the quality of those backups) against a starting defense. Would Tom Brady have fared remarkably better? I mean, really. But, I guess they think that if a "good QB" can't perform well regardless of who he's playing with, he's not worth actively giving up assets for. At this point, I'd be happy with a 4th or 5th and even that seems unlikely unless some team suffers QB injuries during TC.

If they’re moving him for a 4th I wonder how much better is that than just keeping him. If Jalen goes down I have little faith Andy Dalton can hold things down or take them anywhere. I mean I doubt Tanner can either, but at least he knows the locker room and has had some success here too.

If Hurts went down, McKee should be the guy. But then again, we don't know the reasoning behind bringing Dalton in.

Don't forget McKee was playing with second (and third?) string players against Washing starters that were not just playing out the season having lost 29-18 two weeks previously. I hope we see more this season one way or another.

Still no GM is going to risk giving up a high pick and their possible career and the franchise to a guy who looked mediocre against a Commie team that had no reason to win the game.

The Eagles were able to flip Sam Bradford, because he had a pedigree. He started multiple NFL games. He was a first who had a lot of hard luck injuries. They also got lucky that the Vikings lost their quarterback. Tanner doesn’t have enough good starting tape to justify giving a 1 or 2 for. Maybe they hope to try and keep the rookie on the PS, but I wonder if that works out for them.

June 8Jun 8 I think another consideration for any team considering McKee is that he'll never be close to a one man offense like Vick or Lamar have been. He might fit as a backup with starting potential on a team the Rams or Niners that use a more conventional offense. He's a pocket quarterback and some teams are not geared for that.

Backup QB is a funny position, value wise. Looking past the Eagles and Dalton, just speaking generally: There’s a huge difference between not having a backup QB at the beginning of the league season before free agency and not having a backup QB right now. For any team with playoff aspirations and no highly reliable 3rd QB…their #2 QB is worth quite a bit no matter who they are, how good they are, or what kind of prospect they are. If they aren’t confident in Dalton, it would take an extremely valuable pick to pry away McKee and set them on a search for a backup QB.
