I would not be upset having all three of theses guys on the field for the majority of the defensive snaps. Dean resumes his role of play caller, allowing Baun and Campbell to just play.
16 hours ago16 hr Was I surprised to see Sirianni protect his staff? No. Do I expect some process and planning changes? Yes. The Owner of the team is not going to sit idly by and see that level of performance all year.As for a trades, DE definitely becomes the more obvious need. I don't see a large cap hit because there are future needs on that money and I'd guess Hendrickson would want to be paid. They need to thread the needle. And whoever mentioned an OGon a crappy team; yep. Especially if Dickerson is going to be dinged all season.
15 hours ago15 hr They don't necessarily need to trade for star players, they have star players. They need a competent starting corner opposite Q, and a quality Edge rusher added to the mix. Those 2 changes with Carter, Q and Nolan Smith healthy, plus Nakobe Dean impacting the run game again can work. You also have 3 new starters who are young (2 rookies and a 2nd year player) who should continue to develop and get better. It would be great to get a stud player in a trade but then you're giving up higher draft picks which you must have for key positions in next year's draft, and you're taking on a contract when the very reason you let guys walk last offseason was to save money to sign your core star players in the next couple years.Last year Vic took the early bye to study film and see what was working and not. He's already made changes at corner to see what's working and not, not afraid to bench someone. We have competent, experienced coaching on the defense to manage the adjustments needed.

Just a good CB2. Hell, even a high quality backup and move him to starter. We have the middle sewn up with Coop. The safeties are more than serviceable. I'd say good. Not great. But decent to good. Assuming Q is OK, we just need a decent guy there.Add the splash DE and maybe we could gut it out with Ringo. Might have to just deal with it and try and cheat a safety that way or some other smoke and mirrors that Vic can come up with.Agree but at what cost?

I think taking Baun out of coverage is a bigger negative. It's not like he would be more productive than our other pass rushers.

14 hours ago14 hr If you look around the league right now, every team has had a bad loss or two, even good teams. I’m kind of tired of the sky is falling with the Eagles talk. They got their asses kicked against NYG, maybe the season implodes like 2023, but a lot of other good teams are in the same boat right now. Buffalo had a bad loss last night, Dallas and Washington lost to two bad teams, Baltimore is a total disaster, etc. If we learned anything from last season after 4-5 games, it’s to let the rest of the season play out.

Campbell is very good in coverage as well. I think Baun could handle a temporary switch better than Campbell.

He at least has a high ceiling with his athleticism and maybe with some time to learn he’ll be good to go now.
14 hours ago14 hr 6 things I’d do this week to get the season back on track.Dean at ILB, Campbell at edge. Run defense is struggling and we need more physical and athletic guys on the edge in nickel. Campbell will still get reps at ILB against the run in base. Will drop way more often than an average edge, allowing Dean to rush more.DeJean at CB2. Ringo is unplayable, Jackson doesn’t play to the physical standard of this defense, which contaminates everyone around him (also, he sucks). For this week, I guess that’d mean Nickerson or McWilliams at nickel. Rest of the season, I’m looking to trade for an elite nickel and hoping I can get top 20 CB play out of DeJean. Look to solve CB2 and move DeJean back to nickel next offseason. Don’t think you’re getting a better CB2 answer than DeJean this season.Gipson and Shipley at KOR, Covey at PR. Let’s just stop screwing around and get guys back there who can do the job.More Shipley and Bigsby in the offense. Barkley getting 19 carries for 50 yards isn’t helping anything. If the OL isn’t getting the right push, we need violent YAC (Bigsby) and more "pass game as an extension of the run game” (Shipley). Not a knock at all on Barkley, but what do they say about insanity? Sit Dillon - waste of space.More Fred Johnson as 6th OL. Zero Calcaterra on run downs.Way more play action. More RPO but don’t go nuts. Get defenses to play on their heels for once.

Would rather McCreary though.

The charts below show that we are second overall in EPA/play in the first half of games and second to last in EPA/play in the second half of games.Regarding the defense, it's been the absence of Carter. We are a top-10 defense (using EPA/play) in the weeks Carter played (2-5).People won't want to hear this, but I think a large part of it is defenses know the QB sucks against zone coverage and beat it to death in the 2nd half. Jalen Hurts has improved against the blitz and credit to him, but in a lot of these games teams are doing simulated pressures, dropping guys back into coverage and the QB can't read it well enough. That doesn't excuse the scheme or play design, both can be true.

He would cost us nothing - league minimum salary plus zero draft assets and he can play slot better than anyone else available. This would allow us to play DeJean on the outside as CB2. Almost an instant fix to our secondary issues.Get er done, Howie.
