For every bad sack Hurts takes, (and they are bad) most other QBs are finding a way to get the ball out. Sometimes those are big completions (way better), sometimes it’s a throwaway (still better), and plenty of times it’s a turnover (way worse).

That’s part of why he’s got low INTs. Hurts also doesn’t have the effortless arm strength to get the ball out there where he wants it when someone is hanging off his leg or grabbing part of his body. For the way this offense works, taking those ugly sacks and protecting the football are not the worst thing in the world.

Milton Williams was getting about 19-20m from that other team until NE went nuts and raised it to 24m.

No he is not worth that to this team.

Yes, he has been good for New England.

Howie could have gotten Milton for 19M at some point. I don't think he even tried. He dismissed it once the season started.

BENCH HIM FOR MCKEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love Milton Williams, but I don’t think there was ever a feasible, realistic, and wise path to getting him here long-term on a second contract.

Again.  Blankenship, Nolan and JD are TBD and would be case by case. That's just me.

well, you have to make a decision on Blankenship at the end of this year because he’s a free agent at the end of this year. So that contract is due. You also got hunt who’s eligible for a contract extension after 2026.

There’s guys that I think they believe they can get on better contracts than what they were gonna be able to get Milton Williams for once he got to the end of his contract at the end of 2024. That’s the difference. They’re gonna be able to get those contracts done early with these guys prior to free agency so they can get them on better deals. Because they did not get Milton Williams done in the 2024 off-season, he was gonna get overpaid. They weren’t gonna overpay for Milton Williams.

@HazletonEagle has resorted back to the full on trolling schtick now to save face after Hurts has somehow made him look even dumber than we already knew he was over the past two weeks. Did the same thing a few summers ago when he was convinced that Carson Strong was gonna win the job only to get cut. He’s that annoying guy that always "only kidding” but everyone else already knows he’s slow so they tolerate it.

He "knows ball" though

He had 3 1/2 sacks in the regular season.

Ojomo has 3 already.

He was very good at pressure rate without getting home while playing next to Jalen Carter.

Nice player and you consider at home discount around 11-13m, no way do you pay him 17m+ with the guys you have to pay.

Jordan Davis is making 18m over 2 years or 9m a year.

Is it possible that Williams is better than Davis in 2027? Do the Eagle have another ring with Davis by then?

It was feasible. Howie didn't wanna sign anyone during the season. And I think he alluded to that. To not mess with the locker room etc. I think Redick the year before spooked him. Again, he's the GM and probably mishandled all of this. He gets credit for alot of stuff but not that.

He’s not stupid. He’s got a shtick and it amuses him.

Whether he's dumb or it's just his "shtick" he is equally pathetic and brings nothing to this board.

Partially agree. I think if they would’ve gotten the contract done before the 2024 and given him the money instead to him instead of huff, then they may have been able too. However, once they got into the season and the season finished, there was no way they were getting him back. With the amount of money available in free agency for certain teams and the lack of talent in free agency, he was going to get way too much for them to match.

Blankenship is a really, really interesting one. I feel like they’ll get something done. The Eagles are way better off with Blankenship than with trying to replace him, given that CB2 is in flux and Mukuba (IMO) is far from established or steady at this point. And, Blankenship…he’s not a plug and play stud in any defense. He’s a great fit here.

This defense would sorely miss him and I don’t think he’d go elsewhere and be all that good.

So it just makes too much sense to not work something out.

Milton Williams is awesome. He’s gotten better every year he’s been in the NFL and is a legit (whether he’s on the team or not) pro-bowl player.

But retaining him just wasn’t sensible. While Williams has the specs for it and did it quite well in running situations, he’s not an edge. His best play comes from the inside. And he is better than Ojomo…but with Carter/Davis/Ojomo in the fold, that contract for Milton Williams would have been ridiculous.

They did the necessary thing in letting him walk.

You are talking to a wall, even with ignoring the cap

Someone was a massive Jack Driscoll guy. Was that him?

This plane of existence was just holding Driscoll back. He's Anthony Munoz level on Earth 437.

Driscoll worship is a Mikey MISS "Kotite Deserves An Extension" level bad take.

Can blame it on Howie. However, I don’t think Milton Williams would have signed a contract in the middle of the season. Being as close as he was to free agency, his agent would’ve told him to test the market. Especially knowing the amount of money he was gonna get in free agency. the Eagles would’ve had to give him a contract close to he got to make it happen.

I guess we could look at it this way. Do you pay JD 24M or MW? I know my answer. It was one or the other. But after last year JD wasn't much. Yes he's better this year. Still rather have MW. Putting the GA Bulldog emotional connection aside here.

Reed will walk after this season and people dont want to admit it

True, that may have gotten it done, but it also would have been quite controversial at the time. MW wasn’t even really a starter heading into 2024. I thought he was great, but we had a new DC, he didn’t do much at all in 2023, and there were several pieces that needed to be added to the defense. With Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter as recent 1st round picks, a multi-year extension for MW might have seemed crazy at the time.

I would also say a guy not talked about right now, Dean. He’s a free agent at the end of the year. Now I think he’s gonna walk because I think a free agency somebody’s gonna pay him more than what the Eagles will and eagles have baun and Campbell going forward. But i think Vic loves that kid

I full well admit it. he's not worth free agent money. Someone will overspend and regret.

He's a nice glue guy around stars. You draft them, you don't pay them.

If there was no cap, go ahead and pay him.

I think it’s more hindsight with Milton Williams. If we asked Howie now he probably say I should’ve extend him then instead of going after Huff. But then again Huff is exactly what we need. He just sucked when he was here. If Huff was actually good we don’t have a need for a pass rusher

But it wasn't one or the other...the Williams decision had to be made this past offseason. The money just wasn't there at the time...there is more flexibility this offseason.

Im not a CJGJ guy. Havent been. Have not been on board with trying to get him back here for a 3rd time.

After today, Im changing my mind.

I like Mukuba. Think hes going to be pretty good.

But this team is improving on offense. Defense is solid but needs help. As a super bowl contender, come post-season I dont want to have to live with the up and down rookie mistakes.

Mukuba benefitted from a half of a season of playing experience, and will likely earn that back in year 2 after CJ would surely be gone again. But for now, Im ok with him taking a back seat to add more physicality and playmaking ability to this D.

Our CBs do not generate INTs. And we havent been physical enough against the run.

CJ will be an immediate help in both areas, and costs no draft picks. Even costs very little money.

Now that we see this team turning a corner and becoming a clear contender again, Im interested in this very cheap avenue of improvement.
