I think some of the frustration is we are just trying to get back to Isaiah Rodgers equivalence here and this probably isn't quite it. Still a good value type deal. Like for him to throw more darts at this like he did with Suh/Joseph.

We will see what happens over the next week but if Denzel Ward isn't moved I'm not sure that guy is out there. Also, while I wouldn't expect another move at corner if an opportunity for a big time upgrade arises I don't think this move keeps Howie from pulling the trigger. They essentially got him for nothing and considering the secondary needed depth in addition to an upgrade at CB2 this could end up being "a move" but not "the move."

Guys, this guy legitimately cost nothing. We saved $57k on the 2025 cap by swapping Metchie. We likely have $1.384mm in 2026 dead money, and given how bad the Jets are, probably only moved back 10 spots in the 2027 draft. He's not guaranteed to even be active on game day. Low cost/risk, high potential upside. No brainer move that doesn't foreclose anything.

Yeah. Depth. Maybe some upside as a starter. No biggie either way. Probably aren’t done.

So if I'm reading the trades correctly, combining both moves made surrounding Metchie:

Eagles traded:

  • TE Harrison Bryant

  • 2026 5th round pick (Eagles own)

  • WR John Metchie

  • 2027 6th round pick (Eagles own)

Eagles received:

  • 2026 6th round pick (Texans)

  • CB Michael Carter II

  • 2027 7th round pick (Jets)

Metchie never did anything, Bryant was a throw in, so really this is take two draft picks and trading back a round and getting a player in return. The type of trade backs Howie makes on draft day to collect future picks.

Wish we could make a Slay type of trade like with Ward. Feel like that's remote. I'm gonna look at this as we just upgraded from Adoree and Ringo to Bennett and Carter. And Fangio figures it out like a mad scientist.

I'll be honest I kinda forgot Metchie was on the team.

I'd run through a wall for Landon. His "I choose violence" speech still gives me chills.

Is this like Roy Hinson playing the Sixers looking like Wilt Chamberlian.

It will be hard to replace Metchie's production: perfect 4 catches on 4 targets! 18 yards. Patullo is going to have get really creative.

Listed as Strong Safety this year.

Does the listing pass the eye test?

In Fangio’s scheme most snaps have 2 Free Safeties and no Strong Safety. DeJean is much closer to filling the Strong Safety role than either of the two deep Safeties are.

I still would like to see Vic give Bennett a real shot when he’s healthy at #2.

Solution may already be on the roster. If not then at least you tried. It’s not like anyone else is lighting the world on fire there.

I was trying to classify him for the sake of his new potential contract. Let's just call him a safety. Getting caught in minutiae.

Didn't they just send back the 5th they got for CJGJ for the 6th they gave up, in the Bryant/Metchie swap? If that's the case you put all three of these trades together and it basically amounts to CJGJ and a late 6 in 2027 for Carter and an early 7 in 2027.

Throw the CJGJ/Kenyon trade in there

If nothing else, it's another healthy body for Fangio to work with and see where he best fits. Getting Bennett back, Nolan Smith, adding back Brandon Graham. We'll see how he ends up distributing the snaps.

I've got some "Intel" for good old Mosh. There is no scenario in which the better match up is to have Ringo or Jackson on the field.

Were any of the picks from that trade used in any of the Metchie trades? It gets confusing to follow sometimes. 😄

So it's CJGJ and a late 6th in 2027 for Carter and an early 7th in 2027, so essentially just CJ for Carter?

Thanks. I wasn't sure how to track which picks (their own vs acquired from other teams) being used in these trades.

For Howie, there's also the financial factors. Having Carter delete the $5m guarantee helps.

I'd rather have good CB depth than a non factor WR

They have the rookie still who just came back

Carter really weighed $5 million vs playing for the Jets and said

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!

Carter is a better CB than Metchie is a WR, so in that perspective, they upgraded. We'll see what other moves they make.

Wonder if Howie consulted Fangio on this one unlike with Bennett and Adoree.

I'd be lying if I told you I knew the difference in quality between Carter & McCreary and most of you are too. If you're watching so much football that you know how the Jets & Titans slot CBs are playing then...
