Just watched Carter highlights. Pretty solid. Sticky in coverage and solid tackler. Doesn't have good hands. Doesn't get caught out of position like Ringo and Jackson. Looked decent on the outside. Better in the slot. This is a nice upgrade if healthy. Carter dropping the $5M guarantee means he's gotten some assurances of playing time.

Only guaranteed in case of injury - he hasnt given up fully guaranteed money.

He probably wasn't going to play much with Jets with Brownlee manning the slot now so he gets to a team competing for the SB with a chance to compete for playing time.

Way too early prediction:

90/10 Back: Blankenship, Mann, Hughlett, Johnson (Minimal deal)

90/10 Gone: Goedert, Dean, Dotson, Jackson

50/50: Uche, Ojulari, Calcaterra, Okoronkwo

Why Hughlett? I give him less than 10/90. His replacement is already on the roster

Hughlett will be 36 and already had two injuries this year that forced the Eagles to pivot. Just a LS, but the new guy hasn’t missed a beat. I think they move on.

I mixed up my LS. I thought Hughlett was the new guy.

See above.

Fair enough

Saw it. Posts passing in the ether.

I wonder if the eagles would have interest in trading for rasul Douglas from Miami. He’s not making very much and supposedly Miami reporters say he’s played well. He has a 74.5 grade from pff and that’s 14th out of 113 eligible corners

Right. $1.384M of his salary is fully guaranteed for 2026. $4M more locks next March if still on roster. Hopefully recovered from herniated disk last year, which is why recent stats aren't good.

Carter didn't cost much, basically moved back from late 6th to early 7th.

Mechie opened up a roster spot, Cooper had already moved ahead of him, Wilson once he's healthy.

I think this is a depth move, when Bennett is activated, one of Jackson/Ringo/Epps will be cut.

MacWilliams is the wild card, Fangio liked him in camp, and now he has a half season under his belt.

Carter, MacWilliams, Bennett and Jackson are basically the same size, Carter the lightest of the three.

PFF rankings are invaluable.....

I mean worthless. I get those two confused. English is weird.

I think extremes of PFF rankings show a trend.

Brandon Graham is the Babe Ruth of PFF rankings. They used to have him as the best edge in the nfl every year. Something he did every snap was a glitch in their formula. I wonder if he can do it again in his return.

Evan Mathis was like that at OG. PFF grades are largely in the right direction but not individually reliable

The Eagles need to open 2 spots now and I figure AJ Dilllon will be one. There are a lot of safety needy teams so I’m not sure they’d want to cut Epps. Adore Jackson makes some sense to cut but only if you’re sure he’s not your best option and I’m not sure that’s definitely true yet. I think Aziz might go at some point too especially if they get another DE but maybe even if they don’t

So if we win the Super Bowl and Jets continue to do what the Jets do does that mean this could be Metchie and pick 216 for Carter II and pick 217?

Packers might be the SB favourites - we gave them Kinnard, the dude has gotten a ring every single year he has been in the NFL

Carter was a bad scheme fit for Glenn who plays man primarily.

He's a better scheme fit here for Fangio's defense.

  • Keeps plays in front of him: Carter II is particularly adept at preventing big plays over the top, a key trait for a slot cornerback in zone schemes.

  • Disciplined play recognition: He demonstrates discipline to avoid being baited into deep routes, allowing him to stay home and defend underneath routes.

  • Limited big plays: In his rookie season, he gave up only a small number of big plays in zone coverage, and he led the league in preventing air yards per coverage snap in a later season.

  • Effective against short throws: He responded well to short throws and screens, limiting the yards after the catch.

He's had a few weeks to recover from a concussion and shoulder injury. Should be ready to go.

I'm not sure they need 2 spots. As far as I can see, right now (Metchie out/Carter in) they are at 52 with Brandon Graham having an exemption. He's effectively the 53rd. Then it would only be one spot needed for Jakorian Bennett. Dillon is an option obviously but so too is Kylen Granson, who seems superfluous at this point. Do they really need to carry four tight ends given Fred Johnson being available to line up there in some formations? And isn't Cameron Latu good enough on specials to be the third tight end? I'm also not convinced that Byron Young has a guaranteed spot. And while Xavier Gipson has done okay when given the opportunity, he would be an easy cut too.

Our Rasul Douglas from 2017? I always thought he would be a better safety than CB - pretty sure that was the general consensus around here - not quite fast enough for outside CB. Great tackler though.

Before last year he was pretty solid at corner for Gb and Buffalo. This year he’s apparently played really well for Miami. Surprising as rest of the team pretty much stinks

I like Rasul, he played well in Vic’s style of defense at GB but it’s been pointed out that long speed is an attribute that most of our DBs have in spades but he does not. Maybe because of the man match principles or straight up C1 we’ve seen more of this year.

Need a spot for Nolan Smith too

Yes I agree Granson and Latu are both not needed. I mentioned that a few days ago but forgot that already :)

In some ways Douglas and Ricks are similar. Good coverage skills, but slow.

The thing about Nolan Smith is that fans have just kind of assumed that he would be back after the bye, but I don't recall the Eagles ever giving any definitive timeline on his injury. It wouldn't surprise me if he's not ready til after Thanksgiving.

But yes, I did kind of forget about his roster spot needing to be cleared.

If that's true then I really hope Howie calls the team that loses tomorrow and grabs an edge from them
