He has and I'm hoping he's learned from past mistakes.

Super Bowl windows are short. I’m not saying to be frivolous but is the 90th pick in a draft worth improving your pass rush even a little bit in key games? I don’t think the answer is clear cut either way.

Am I the only one in here silently wishing if we're making a splash trade for an EDGE that it'll be Maxx Crosby and not Myles Garrett?

Probably

I'm cool with it.

Depends on what the alternative options are. If there are literally zero other options then maybe. But if they can get someone close to as good for much less, I'd rather do that.

There is no one on the Patriots roster that would be worth this trade with the exception of Gonzalez and Maye.

Would you trade AJ for Gonzalez straight up?

They currently have their own 1st and 2nd round picks, the Jets 3rd round pick which will be extremely early, their 3rd round pick, a 3rd round comp pick and two 4th round picks. I'm pretty sure they would be ok giving up a late 3rd round pick to get a legit upgrade at edge rusher. I'm not saying trade it for some bum but if it takes a late 3rd to outbid someone else for Bradley Chubb you do it and anyone saying otherwise is one of those nerds that overvalues the heck out of draft picks.

That's fair. Jay Glazer on Fox Sports is different than some random local podcaster trying to get clicks. I only ever heard it on here so thought it was some rando on Twitter.

The Garrett trade seems to be a podcaster just making things up.

There's also the agents and teams that want to seem like there is buzz for their players that plant stories, so you never know. I do believe Howie explores opportunities to find out what the asking price is, he is a person that is obsessive about wanting all the information so he can make a decision. And he's not afraid to pull the trigger if he likes a deal.

It's absolutely hilarious when someone whines and complains about trade rumors and says they can't wait for the deadline to pass in a few days so they don't have to talk about trade rumors anymore, and then proceeds to spend the entire day talking about trade rumors

Picks and Gonzalez is fine with me. Not that I am in favor of trading him, but hypothetically speaking.

Obviously its impossible to do, financially, for the eagles.

But I wondered if there is some way AJ can help the eagles swallow that pill if he wants out badly enough.

What he can do is agree to change the timing of his option/roster bonuses so that they become the responsibility of the Pats rather than the Eagles

Fran Duffy said today that Charles Robinson is legit.

I was expecting a trade for a decent corner who is an upgrade at CB2, and a pass rusher to add to the mix like Phillips or Chubb. The trade for Carter gives them options if DeJean is hurt, or if they really need to move DeJean outside, or mix things up in certain packages. The overall CB room got better with Carter, even if we preferred an outside corner.

It just removed liability from the Eagles. Makes the trade less risky and more palatable.

AJ could do something similar by adjusting the strike point of his bonuses so that they are exercised after the trade rather than before it.

It's that or we go back to this engaging convo. 🤣Screenshot_20221104-131512_Chrome~2.jpg

What believable evidence is there that Howie was going to trade a package to the Cowboys for Parsons?

Schefter reported it

I don't know about these big trade ideas just because of the cap and draft capital it would take. But just for argument sake to entertain the idea, I remember a couple trades in the past, both involving Carson Wentz.

Howie was undoing Chip's mess and made a series of trades to move up to #2 to take Wentz. At the time, many questioned the move and if Wentz was worth it. They had Bradford and just signed Chase Daniel. (Of course, Howie was able to flip Bradford for a 1st when the Vikings got desperate, which is funny because the following year we beat them in the NFCCG and then won a SB in their house, but just a tangent lol). Howie was able to spread the impact of that trade up over 3 years (Moved up in 2016 draft using their 1st, 3rd and 4th, plus a 1st in 2017, a 2nd in 2018. So in 2017 they still had a 2nd round pick, and in 2018 had their 1st.

Then trading Wentz to the Colts. They had just signed him to a $100m contract and thought there's no way. Howie got a 3rd rounder that year and a conditional 1st the following year and managed the money situation.

So when needed, Howie makes it work. I don't think the AJ Brown situation is the same, and I don't know if they would really give up that much for Myles Garrett. Plus, if you're taking on a big contract that has implications for who else you can sign.

Do you get Garrett, miss out on adding 1st round talent the next 3 years, and also don't have enough money to extend other key defensive players???

It was Charles Robinson from Yahoo. He's like a B level reporter. I don't think he's just making things up but his statement of "Howie would give up like, 3 first round picks" seems a little hyperbolic, personal guessing than actual reporting.

They are all due before Week 1 each year, so there's nothing to do there now

Fair enough.

Details aside, I totally get the desire to go "all in" on securing another Super Bowl. In dreaming/fantasy land, you acquire a top stud defender and your defense dominates again and you win the next 2 Super Bowls, become the first team to 3-peat and then whatever happens after that so be it.

Then you wake up from your dream and realize this year's move was for slot CB Carter, and maybe a mid round pick for a rotational Edge rusher. B-)

It's nice to chatter and talk about trades for Garrett and picks. I think it is superfluous in the long term. I could agree to 2, 1sts and a top prospect/player. But, 3, 1sts is too rich for me, I'm not Howie though.

Welp, YouTubeTV and ESPN finally did it. No more ABC/ESPN channels on YouTubeTV.

Can we just go back to cable?

I'm certain your cable company would welcome you back. New subscribers to traditional cable haven't been exactly plentiful for the past few years.
