We haven't started a season playing great football for years, under Sirianni even when we've got to the Superbowl the first couple of games are more grind than procession as they knock the off season rust off, if CB2 still looks like a hole in a couple of game maybe they bite the bullet, but Cee Dee is going to make a lot better corners than Adoree Jackson look ordinary.

Worth remembering as well that for all the hoopla, Slay was just an absolutely average starting corner last year, he wasn't near his best level.

TL:DR The sky isn't falling in, it's just early season sloppiness in the defense against a top 3 receiver in a divisional match up without our best D Lineman there to collapse pockets.

All good points. I'm not sure anyone thinks the sky is falling. You are spot on about him making a lot of good corners look bad. We'll see what happens.

Tbh i didn’t mind them letting slay go. He’s in his mid 30s and at some point that cliff was coming. He didn’t exactly look great yesterday for Steelers. It’s week 1 in a new defense so i suspect he’ll be better as the season continues but i also don’t think it’s unthinkable he falls off.

As for CJGJ, there were multiple things going on. They have to give Reed Blankenship a contract extension. CJGJ is due for a contract at the end of this year. I am guaranteeing part of the logic in that was if they gave Blankenship his contract extension and CJGJ was still here that he probably becomes a pain in the ass. To be perfectly honest, I think mkuba is fine if he can stay healthy. The issue is whether or not he can stay healthy, which was frankly an issue with CJGJ because he’s also not been the epitome of health either.

Really the mistake that the Eagles made was not having better competition pushing Ringo for the outside starting cornerback job (Bennett got here late so he’s behind and learning on the fly). When they signed Adoree Jackson, I don’t think they believed he would be a starter. I think they believed he would be a solid veteran backup that could help some of the young corners and if someone got hurt for a couple weeks they could survive. Ringo being as bad as he was and not ready yet to start was a miscalculation in his evaluation. Having a better competition with ringo in hindsight was probably the safest move they could’ve made

That said even with Carter back adoree is limited. He might be slightly better but teams will continue to pick on him as rest of the secondary is good. That said even with Carter back doesn’t help adoree with being as bad vs. the run as he was

Speaking of, this is an honest question, not trying to spark a stupid debate. Josh Allen had 251 passing yards int he 4th quarter, and sometimes your franchise QB has to put on his cape and do this to win a game.

Slay was better than average last season, he was pretty damn good. Definitely downgraded that spot this season, but doesn't mean the position is doomed.

One sure thing is that Howie is always trying to improve the roster all throughout the year. They don't always work out, but at least he's not complacent. They signed Smith to add some pass rush depth the other day. I expect something will be done at corner, but don't know how impactful it will be. If there's a player they could trade for that could start, that would be great. But they might just have to sign another depth guy. Unless Bennett can step in and suck less than Jackson.

Hilton got let go by the phins who have less than zero at CB… I not sure if that bodes well. If the intention is to put Dejean on the outside, I’m surprised Mac isn’t the week 5 magical solution at nickel.

Come on NFL. Make your Jalen Carter decision already.

Yep I think Howie messed up CB. If it was a calculated risk then it was poorly calculated. I think what they'll do is a good conversation.

Give Bennett and Mukuba some time to integrate, add in Carter and I think the D will be good again. I'm more worried about the OL if Dickerson is dinged up all year than the secondary honestly.

So, got to watch the game on the flight home Saturday. Here are some thoughts from watching it on TV as opposed to in person:

• Didn't notice it in the stadium, but it looked like AJ Dillon injured both Dickerson and Mailata on his second run (1 yard) on our FG drive to open the 3rd quarter. Before that, we ran the ball well. After that, we legitimately couldn't run it at all. Yes, Dallas was stacking the box and Patullo should have called more outside runs, but it seems the whole left side of the line fell apart. Hopefully the mini-bye helps those guys. That seemed to be the moment the offense went cold.

• Man, losing Jalen Carter was even worse than I thought. But the couple guys who stood out and tried to make up some slack were Davis and Uche. Davis played his best game as an Eagle -- disruptive as a pass rusher and should have had at least one sack. And Uche played like a poor man's Reddick. If he is now the 4th guy in the rotation (if Z'Darius is 3rd), then I am encouraged. I am cautiously optimistic that the sacks will come when JC plays again.

• I can't believe how amazing our LBs are. Campbell made a play on a seam route to the TE 20 yards down the field, and then a few plays later Baun did the same thing. Campbell needs to react faster on runs (will come in time), but he and Baun can just fly all over the place. I almost want to see Vic try a 3-3-5 when Dean is ready -- imagine the offense having no idea if Baun, Campbell, both or no one is coming as a rusher.

• The Ceedee drops were all on potential hospital balls. I know the media ran with he gave the game away, but Dak seems to specialize in throws that get his WRs killed. Not saying they weren't drops, but they weren't as terrible as the media made them out to be. Also, Lamb leads the league in drops since he came into the league.

• If Jackson starts over Bennett this week, we riot. Bennett was competitive at least.

• Jalen played a great game, but it is concerning that our guys weren't being schemed open against match coverage. Patullo had a worse night than I thought.

After watching the Rams, Lions and Bucs, I feel like it may be us and the Packers. And Jordan Love tried so hard to throw multiple interceptions in that game...

He had a lower pay check. The real whiff was on how they viewed Ringo. They thought he was the guy to step up. He's the one that really failed. Jackson was here to push Ringo, nothing more. Trouble is, Ringo doesn't want to compete or didn't think he needed to. And now he's likely back at CB4 again from last year, if not CB5. Personally, I think Bennett is ahead of him, and Bennett might even be ahead of Jackson right now as well, but didn't know the defense well enough to be tossed in there on Thursday Night. I would be shocked if Bennett didn't get a much longer look this week.

I think mukuba is fine when he plays. The issue with him is whether his body holds up for 17+ weeks as a rookie kind of think it’s why they wanted brown to start then ease mukuba into that role as the season went along.

I’d just start Bennett tbh. If I’m going to have issues with no. 2 corner i rather it be with a young kid that can use these reps to get better and improve as the season goes along and potential be an adequate no. 2 corner this year and beyond. Adoree is a short term solution that frankly isn’t all that good of a solution.

Nope. There was a report Saturday that he wouldn't only for Schefter or someone else to come out yesterday and say that it is still on the table because the NFL wants to set an example (and most importantly because the Chiefs can't start 0-2).

Agree. Mac may be able to push for time later in the season as well.
