I defended Howie before but I can’t with this Quez Watkins tryout. I’m out

Absolutely no reason to bring him in.

  • They just announced the flight crew is from Dallas… So I yelled "GO BIRDS” Waiting for the Air Marshall to take me out

  • It’s really cool that the Eagles have become an antichoke team. A lot of that is that Hurts has the sideline disposition of a corpse whether it is September or the SB.

IMO, the longer it takes, the more likely a suspension. I have nothing to base that off of other than a gut feeling. There hasn't been a peep from the league office regarding this yet they already announced the Bills fan is banned for life from last night. I know the two are completely separate incidents, but it just gives me a bad feeling to not hear a word.

The longer it takes, the less likely it is imo. Honestly that Cowboys OL should be suspended before Carter.

We've probably got the most solid first 4 WR's we've ever had, 3 first rounders and a second rounder and we already know what Watkins can do (and crucially what he can't) this workout just seems a massive waste of time for everyone involved, just right across the board wasting oxygen, energy and life in general that they'll never get back.

That's the feeling I have as well. The NFLPA has been pretty weak lately, or at least has felt that way, but they need to step up here. Two people spit towards each other and one landed from close range. If they feel spiting is worth a suspension because of the league image and Carter gets punished Dak should as well for instigation and starting it off.

Working out doesn't mean they're planning to sign him.

Howie works out guys all season, see who's in shape in case they need a quick injury signing or an upgrade on the PS.

that's true, but not what I was talking about. I was mocking the way the news was shared by the tweeter.

According to the CBS link below, the league reviews potential additional fines and such throughout the week and finalizes by the following Saturday. The 2nd link to the NFL Football Operations page about fines doesn't give a deadline, but lays out the process. It doesn't specifically say suspension, but fine. And I couldn't find anything official about suspension from a quick search.

Long form answer from Chat GPT:

The NFL has a defined process for deciding on and issuing player suspensions, though the details can vary depending on whether the suspension is for on-field conduct, substance abuse, personal conduct, gambling, or other policy violations. Here’s a breakdown of the general process:

1. Investigation

  • The NFL’s football operations department or the league office (often under the Commissioner’s authority) reviews incidents such as on-field infractions, off-field conduct, or violations of league policies.

  • For personal conduct or serious matters, the NFL’s investigations team (sometimes in coordination with law enforcement findings) gathers evidence, interviews witnesses, and consults outside experts.

2. Decision-Making Authority

  • On-field conduct violations (e.g., dangerous hits, fighting): reviewed by the NFL Football Operations Department, overseen by VP of Football Operations. The Commissioner has final authority for suspensions.

  • Off-field conduct (Personal Conduct Policy): Commissioner Roger Goodell (or his designee) determines discipline after reviewing investigation results.

  • Substance abuse / performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs): governed by the NFL-NFLPA collective bargaining agreement (CBA), with testing procedures, levels of violation, and automatic penalties.

  • Gambling violations: also handled under a defined policy, with suspensions issued by the Commissioner.

3. Notice to the Player

  • Once discipline is determined, the player is notified in writing, usually through:

    • An official letter from the Commissioner’s office, delivered to the player, their agent, and their team.

    • The letter explains the violation, the length of the suspension, and the basis for the decision.

  • The team is informed simultaneously so they can adjust roster and salary cap considerations.

  • In drug-related suspensions, the NFL also notifies the NFL Players Association (NFLPA).

4. Right to Appeal

  • Players generally have the right to appeal discipline:

    • For on-field conduct suspensions, appeals are heard by an independent appeals officer jointly approved by the NFL and NFLPA.

    • For personal conduct suspensions, the Commissioner initially had sole authority, but under the current CBA, appeals may be heard by a neutral arbitrator (unless the Commissioner reserves authority in certain cases).

    • For drug and PED violations, appeals are handled under the jointly agreed Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse or Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances, usually before an independent arbitrator.

5. Public Announcement

  • After notifying the player and team, the NFL typically issues a public statement announcing the suspension and explaining the terms (e.g., number of games, when the player is eligible to return).

  • Sometimes, if the player appeals, the league withholds a public announcement until the appeal process concludes.

If he is I hope Derrick Brooks gets the appeal. Playing with Sapp he must have seen a thing or two worse than that.

Vikas was correct. Fingers crossed.

I'd think they would also give the team time to prepare for his absence.

While we are eliminating plays to change the stats... what was the yards per attempt when the long pass to Dotson is removed? It feels like the average would drop under 5.

51 yards on one target and 4.6 on the other 22.

The pass to Dotson was the only throw beyond 10 yards in the air.

I was right!

The typical timing for this stuff is on a Tuesday, IIRC. It only FEELS like its taking so long because it happened on a Thursday, but most fines, suspensions, etc. are announced after the full slate of games are played and then all the penalties come out at once. The timing doesn't mean anything as far as I can gather.

Agreed - while I’m not enthusiastic about Jalen passing more, the low depth of target isn’t going to take 8 out the box. He’s got to open it up.

Yup. Passing in the box when there are 8 defenders there is just tough, and its why the offense felt stifled, even as they were moving the ball in the first half. They need to open it up and get the safety to back up again.

Carter should get an endorsement deal with some company like 23 and me that deals with spit/saliva to make up the money.

I liked the early passes into the middle to Goedert, showed that Hurts will use the middle of the field more. Unfortunately, as the game went on, the routes were getting closer and closer to the LOS.

"NOTW eviscerates NFL insider Jordan Shultz. This type of lashing will haunt his family for generations to come"

Am I missing something? Did not one media talking head or sports journalist in America point out that the Ravens were running along the wall as close to Bills fans as possible to taunt them?

Can anyone find video of another road team doing this? Ever? I've seen some guys try to ironically Lambeau Leap and get pushed back but every other celebration is almost always about the score and the team, not disrespecting fans garbage. The ironic Lambeau Leap guys get shoved out of the stands by multiple fans and don't shove back.

Why couldn't they have run up and down the sidelines or 4 feet away from the wall?

You get fined for a middle finger from the bench but getting in the faces of opposing team's fans is all good?

You can't get in the face of another player but the crowd? Go for it?

All these people just collectively spit venom at Jalen Carter for 3 days but this gets nothing?

Yeah, Goedert was taking some licks too as the defense started creeping down. The Dotson play was a nice counter, but that’s the only deep attempt that I remember - and nothing at all in the intermediate area. I read Jalen was pressured like 40% of the time, which seems high but Mailata was not having a good game… so perhaps some splash plays were dialed up, but the receiver was left hanging.
