Watching that game, the frustrating thing from my perspective is that they completed only 1 pass that went more than 10 yards in the air... and most were in the 5 and under range. That can be a problem long term. The running game needs the passing game to be a little more open to keep teams from stacking 8 and 9 in the box constantly. If you don't throw the ball down the field a little bit, that's going to be a problem, because stacking the box makes the running hard and if it also contributes to clogging up the passing lanes you prefer... that's a major issue moving forward.

What we saw in the Super Bowl, is what we want/expect when teams stack the box. That's what we were hoping for. We convinced ourselves that there was a corner turned and that the passing game was going to open up, if the running game was shut down. We anticipated that teams would stack the box to stop Barkley this year. And what we saw Thursday night was not an 'open' passing game. It was a very constricted passing game, with 1 deep shot. We've seen that before in previous seasons and that was a problem then. We don't want it to be a problem moving forward. What we REALLY want is another parade... this year! But, you can't get that in Week 1 or 2. So we have a long road ahead of us.

I agree, but who was responsible for that? Hazleton blames it on Hurts, probably because he doesn't like the kind of QB Hurts is. I'm more inclined to blame it on Patullo. I didn't see in Thursday's game the Patullo that I saw in the first two Preseason games.

There are variables though

Hurts had/has a great supporting cast

Burrow on this team puts up great numbers just passing the ball to Brown and Smith while handing it off to Barkley

Baker and Goff needed specific systems which they flourished in. We don't know if Hurts needs that (hopefully we never find out since that'd mean he wouldn't be here)

He may not need a specific system but he most definitely needs elite talent around him. Put him on the Bengals or bills and they aren't half as successful as they are with Burrow and Allen. Put Allen or Burrow on this team and we're perennial 1 seed

Eagles found their Cameron Williams "injury”

They actually fined him for taunting?? That was such a BS penalty on Smith

I missed the hipdrop tackle. Didn't realize he did that

Agreed. That's not an insult to Hurts IMO though but some do take it as an insult

Hurts has flourished in our system

Agreed, I did not intend it as an insult either. He works with what we've got and that's all that matters.

Those things look like something the Browns would wear or if you want green then the Jets

The all white looks horrible for any team that isn't the Colts. It looks especially bad for the Eagles.

The NFLPA is such a complete failure. The league can just fine players at will and the NFLPA is limp because their leader spends all his time in a strip club

A fine on top of the penalty to Nolan for flexing is so dumb.

The league is inconsistent, and soft on things that should be allowed, but won't call things they should.

Flexing and standing over someone was called in previous years too. Smith evens admits the league sat them down and explained everything to them prior to the season. I’m not saying it’s right or smart but they had warning this was going to be enforced.

Perhaps we can agree on the silver pants

Does he need to go to the sidelines and then flex?

Has to be Eagles sidelines I'm sure

Flexing wasn’t the taunt. It was taking steps forward and standing over the guy who was still on the ground.

I thought he was already there? I don't remember any steps towards him. I could see it as a taunting if he walked towards him. They changed the spiking years ago so players that still do it have to move away before spiking

It would be worthwhile trying

So.... He's definitely getting traded by the deadline, right?

It was a penalty. Still a fail that the NFLPA allows these fines on top.

Oh yea. Caught up in the moment. Still a weak rule

With regards to AJ. He definitely wants the ball more. Winning is not all that matters to players like it does to fans. Case in point a guy who didn’t play in the Super Bowl enjoyed the ring but let’s not pretend it’s the same as playing. Same goes for a guy who plays ST snaps only and that holds all the way through a WR who plays but isn’t thrown the ball. Football players want to play and be involved. No shame in that. The team will do what’s best for winning but we shouldn’t pretend that players don’t rightfully have their own agendas

It takes less than a second for a player to make a big play, and the emotion after it is just as quick. Expecting them to control every reaction is crazy. These are human beings, not machines. Unless it gets physical, let them celebrate. Football isn’t meant to be robotic.

Must be. Tankathon has us taking a WR in their current mock draft.

Guess what was different about that game vs the games McKee played in.

I heartily agree. All these nonsensical penalties and wimpy rules are diminishing the intensity of the game for both players and fans. At the same time, players are getting epidurals in the locker room while the league makes mealy-mouthed statements about player safety. Let’s outlaw the Tush Push because it’s so unsafe despite total lack of injuries, even a hangnail. And god forbid, we enforce consistency across referee groups. They show the players all kinds of crap about rules and enforcements but do they drill the refs? If they do it’s not enough.
