I just rewatched yesterday's game. An Eagle who deserves some criticism is getting overlooked.

On both the wide-open Mahomes miss to Thornton and then on the actual TD bomb to Thornton on the Chiefs' final drive, it appears that Reid Blankenship was the safety with the responsibility to prevent a deep ball. On both plays, Blankenship bit hard -- and I mean hard -- on the play design, choosing to run forward to chase a crossing receiver, thus leaving Thornton wide open for the deep ball. The appealing but incorrect instant reaction was to blame Adoree and Mitchell on those plays, but at least 80% of the fault lies with Blankenship for abandoning his prime responsibility

To me it looks like they are in Cover 2 and Mukuba isn't deep enough so Reed has to take responsibility for the crosser and Q has to try to play catch upm

You are good I'm giving you crap.

I had a 404 error 🤣, except it was my mind that couldn't be found.

Edit: Well that sucks, this post did not land on the right page, totally whiffed, the original post was on pg 404 though.

Yeah, that is a much better angle than what I was looking at. Two Chiefs receivers -- Thornton and someone else -- break past the linebacker level at full speed, forcing Blankenship to choose one or the other. In retrospect from that angle, he probably picked the right one since he at least had some modicum of help in the person of Quinyon for Thornton. I assume you are right that that is Mukuba on the other side, who was doing nothing but covering air, and undoubtedly should have been more conscious of protecting against the deep ball in that situation.

I'd be interested to see the All-22 on the other play (the wide open miss about four plays earlier).

The more I think about it, it’s pretty great the Eagles won that game. The Chiefs were coming off a loss, were at home in a tough place to play, motivated by the embarrassment in the Super Bowl, and had 7 months to prepare. I know they were down a couple weapons but still…

It wasn’t a blow out or anything but still a good win.

Indeed. Kurt Vonnegut wrote a story, Harrison Bergeron, in which the government enforces a series of handicaps so that everyone is exactly equal. If you’re smart you get static pumped into your brain, strong, you are weighted down, etc. Everyone is exactly equal. There are no competitive advantages. No one can do anything better than anyone else. Tush Push? Outlaw it because we do it better than anyone though anyone can do it. They lied about injuries; now the argument is it’s impossible to referee. Clearly a competitive advantage that we must do away with, just because. But let’s not stop there. Home field advantage? Gotta do away with it? Well, no. How is that different than having a play everybody can run but only the Eagles do it well. Let’s have Super Bowls only on balmy nights in southern climes.

I love the game but the league makes me ill. I’m thrilled to know we beat the Chiefs back in March, per Schefter. Why did we bother playing the game then?

I remember that story well.

$57k for spitting? Damn...

It's the same amount he would make as a game check. The NFL basically said we won't suspend you for any more games and we'll act like you missing the entire first week was the suspension and you lose a game check to make it whole.

Latu looks like the new FB unless they hold out for Lampkin.

Epps only has one more call up so I guess he’ll get a roster spot even though he’s not playing defense. He’s your backup if Reed gets hurt which does happen

Calcaterra and Granson are both fringe roster guys. Needs an upgrade

Not sure what will happen at CB

Somehow got a W despite a borderline impossible spot, look at us!

I don’t really understand the 2023 comparisons I’m seeing people freak out about regarding the start through two games. The defense turned into the worst in the league in 2023. I mean sure, I guess it’s technically possible the bottom falls out of this defense, but on the whole there is twice the talent on this defense than there was in 2023. And I’ll trust Fangio over Desai/Patricia.

Hurts was also a turnover machine in 2023 and even though he’s been very conservative through the first two games this year, last year showed that he’s learned how to take care of the football.

The Eagles DEs with the two Smiths, Hunt and Uche are a good group. Might not have that stud but they are all good

Since the addition of SB last year and the defensive growth both in talent and scheme beginning last year and continuing into this year, I don't see how anyone could compare this team to the 2023 team (at any point of that year). The Eagles turned a corner last year and I think the ghosts of 2023 are long gone, I don't think there is anyone on the team (from what I have seen, I don't watch them as much as you guys) that will accept failure like that late season collapse again.

Yep. Very similar to what they had last year IMO.

Maybe even higher ceiling.

Yes. That was a question/concern this offseason and it's good to see the solid play so far, and they'll only get better. Another difference this year is we have confidence in a lot of the returning players and additions. Linebacker is solid which is something we can actually say these days that I'm still getting used to! And we had/have concerns about CB2 and safety, but we knew we had Q, DeJean and Reed returning that were solid. Mukuba looks good already. So the defense overall is looking good.

One of my favorite Vonnegut short stories. Love the climatic ending

We are watching South Park's Sarcastaball play out in real time. It is crazy.

May need to rewatch that episode

This is no longer a sport. The Texan gets grabbed and pulled in the end zone... no call.

Stingley hits Evans in the shoulders... hands to the face 15 yards.

Its not the job of a ref to think he might have seen something or to pretend he saw something.

Again, these scumbags said that 15 yards penalties were subject to review this year. Where the hell are the reviews?

The specific 15-yard penalties subject to replay assist in 2025 are unnecessary roughness (specifically for hits to the head or neck area), facemask, horse-collar tackle, and tripping. An on-field penalty call for any of these fouls can be overturned if there is clear and obvious video evidence that shows the contact did not occur as initially called

So roughness to the head is reviewable but hands to the head is not? Idiocy!

Bucs OL is banged up but mayfield is still very good throwing hot. I predict we wont blitz much in two weeks
