You can get lost in the weeds but the simple truth is a vested veteran who has been released is free to sign anywhere.

So why did Ian Rapoport post the rules that says he can't unless he played four games? Did he make that rule up? There's no getting lost in the weeds, the NFL has stupid rules because they can.

For the record, the NFL's constitution and bylaws prohibit the Eagles from re-signing Gardner-Johnson. According to the "Reacquisition of Traded Player” section, a team can’t re-sign a player it traded for two years if the player hasn’t been on the team he was traded to for at least four regular-season games.

The Texans released former Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Tuesday.

And there's another source saying the same thing.

Not even sure that was worth the exclamation point.

The whole point of the rule is to close any loopholes and prevent shady behavior between teams and players.

It's the same reasoning why every reporter including Schefter said Haason Reddick could not be traded back to the Eagles. They want to avoid a situation where a team gets compensation for trading the player, the player holds out or becomes a problem and the original team ends up with compensation and the original player at the same time.

This move means nothing to me. The guy is huge, but can he actually play? Early returns say "no".

They only win a SB when he leaves and comes back. Howie is playing 6D chess

Rapsheet posted that in 2024 about something else and BLG cherry picked it and didn't read the fine print.

Here's rapsheet's original post about not being able to trade Hassan back to the Eagles.

It was about Haason Reddick and why the Eagles couldn’t trade for him back while he was holding out with the Jets. And we just went over the fine print. And the second source was Reuben Frank.

He might be able to fall forward during a tush push

He might not be able to exist on the field with the heat they are talking about. When a guy is 460 lbs, putting on football pads and then being exposed to 110 degree temps on the field... I'm not a doctor, but I have to say that that seems a dangerous situation for him. (No joke. It seems extremely dangerous.)

I was wondering that myself. From my immediate reaction to the game, I didn't notice him once.

He was out there for over 70% of the snaps

One final thought on that... the simple solution for that is to not substitute before a Tush Push, and lining up for it on a quick count. He won't be able to play many snaps, and so he won't even be on the field. Then, consider that Tampa would have to burn a timeout just to get him on the field for the Tush Push. AND... then you've got a guy on the field that can't move. Take advantage of him. I just don't see him as a viable option to do anything negative against this team.

What if they hand him the ball and ask DeJean to make the tackle in open field?

Thank you. I'm wondering what he did while he was out there that caused him to be so invisible?

On the other hand, Green is waived once again. He is in and out of the roster/PS so many times, he must feel there is no love for him. Good chance he would sign on with other team and get back to his career.

He gets a paycheck every time he is in. Follow the money. Howie certainly does.

Shiz pointed out that they are waived even if they are vested veterans, but with a vested veteran they immediately clear waivers, and are free to sign anywhere. So what you pointed out was correct, they do go through waivers and he immediately cleared them and was terminated. Therefore, he is free to sign anywhere.

Also, be careful with lazy journalists, I listened to a ton of them who never even went to training camp trying to report what others wrote.

Apparently he is still placed on waivers but since he is a vested veteran, he clears waivers immediately and becomes a free agent.

Section 1. Release:

"Whenever a player who has finished the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers between the Monday following the Super Bowl and the trading deadline, his contract will be considered terminated and the player will be completely free at any time thereafter to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period."

That would make absolutely no sense as the rule would literally never be applicable in any way. There would be no reason for the NFL to have that rule in writing at all if that were the case.

You can even see on the daily transaction list the NFL has "terminated, vested veteran” as a separate listing than "waived” or "terminated via waivers”. They make that distinction for a reason.

Typically if a DB is invisible, it is because he is doing (almost) everything right.
