I think this is the week we get our first loss.

AJ’s quote was clearly directed at the media to,leave him the F alone. They didn’t take it and blew it,out of proportion so the "apology” was to the team but not the media. Berman handled it nicely and refused to speculate but still focused on the production a bit. The "apology” (this is my home) was directed to his teammates.

The amount of "the sky is falling” in here rivals last year about this time. Lest we forget, last year there were rumblings about inconsistency, Moore as a play caller and also the defense. The reality is that teams realized that the best defense to Barkley is to crowd the lanes and the best defense to Hurts is to shorten his time to throw. Interesting that they are using so much zone. (Although I can’t help but laugh at Jerruh ( @Joe Ball ’s) team. Only Jerruh would take a secondary designed for press man and give it to a defensive coach that runs primarily zone. Such a Jerruh move).

This idea that it is 2023 again is nuts. The only commonality is that the Eagles hired as OC from within for a coach that never called plays before. I find it humorous that some proposed bringing in Doug. The knock on Doug when hired was he had never called plays. This is the same offense? What a joke. If anything it is the opposite, almost to an extreme. RPO is virtually nonexistent this year. Screen passes to RBs. Short throws to combat the blitzes. I am sure Patullo, Singleton, Stout, Frazier, Loeffler, Moorehead, Michael and Nick spent time on Monday and Tuesday plotting how to deal with a combo of mush rush and zone in play calls and routes. Wheel routes, screens, slants and probably a dose of RPO and RO thrown in should do the trick. But let’s not be ignorant, the Eagles got TDs on three plays that weren’t obviously in the playbook last year against the Bucs.

All while Jurgens recovers from off season back surgery and Landon is six weeks removed from knee surgery (that he probably should have had in February). Add to that Lane missing time. Winning with Lane missing time, I should add. Sit Landon? Makes more sense to sit Cam. But before we label the OL washed, maybe look at the DL they have faced. KC’s interior line, the Rams DL, a healthy Vea and even Jackson. My biggest complaint is Steen gets to high in checking back with Hurts and that limits his knee bend and punch a bit. (Would be curious if @just relax agrees with that assessment.

The Eagles beat the leading team in the NFC West, the leading team in the NFC south and last year’s AFC champions.

I really believe that hit Hurts took on the long run trying to run through the Bucs defender jolted his shoulder or neck when the second defender put a knee right between the shoulder blades and impacted his throwing last week. Suspect it tightened up at half time. Hopefully a one week thing that doesn’t linger into this week. We have been here with Hurts before. I am sure he got an earful this week on protecting himself. Good news is Tanner is healthy again.

I watched the all 22 and focused on Ringo. I am done with Jackson. Ringo needs to improve his tackling but I think that will come. But his coverage was good. Hand checks, keeping the receiver in front of him and letting the receiver know he was there on every play. On one running play he took the opportunity to pop the receiver when he tried blocking Ringo. Nice. Bit surprised they opened Dean’s window so early. There is a chance after three weeks he goes to IR. That said, I would give Baun and Campbell some rotation help, in the form of Trot2. Bit surprised that Young is playing so well. Uche is so close to getting sacks and is a force on STs.

Speaking of STs, not sold on Nickerson taking on the gunner. Close to penalties every time. That’s the Ringo as a starter impact. That said Jackson would probably be worse. But my gosh, that coverage team is close. Did enjoy all the little quirks Elliott had on kickoffs.

I think he's designing all of the run plays. I am not sure he has significant influence on which run plays get called on a given down. If they are running the ball against 9 players in the box for the defense, is that on Stoutland or Patullo?

Does he bring up his complaints with the team or is he the shy one that doesn't speak up but then goes online and tweet deletes? If he does bring it up then do they just ignore him? In a sense they do since it's been 4 games. Doing it publicly likely forces it though

Steen is a little high but it does not appear to affect his ability to anchor in pass blocking. One thing I did notice: after turning back to face the LOS he missed at least two blocks because he didn't have time to pick up on an A gap blitz and went to double Vea with Jurgens, leaving the MLB unblocked. As for run blocking, he fires out better when Hurts is under center and he doesn't have to look back or tap the C. If they could hold up the snap half a second I think both those problems would be resolved.

I don't think this is the same as 2023. I think injuries are playing a part in the offensive problems. My concern is the lack of overall creativity. There is a complacency that comes with success. Players get the benefit of the doubt when they need further scrutiny. There is an aversion to changing practices because it worked to the detriment of critical analysis. Hurts did not look right after the hit. He was seen in the medical tent. We could see he wasn't throwing the ball well. They were still calling pass plays seeing the same thing we did. It calls into question whether they critically looked at the situation. It seems like that has not been addressed by the media at all this week. How much of not changing their approach on offense was driven by complacency. How much was driven by not wanting to create an issue with Hurts. He clearly wanted to beat the Bucs. He admitted to circling the date on his calendar. Those are not reasons to sit him if his health is impacting his play. I get that they are doing things right because they are winning.

Their record makes avoiding complacency more important. They are in the driver's seat in the NFC. It is a long season. I hope they are able to significantly improve. I would be ignoring reality if I thought everything was OK and didn't have concerns. The record doesn't change it. They can be in position to return to the Super Bowl. They need to avoid complacent and risk averse thinking that will keep them from repeating.
