JK Rowling is doing quite fine, though I agree that the way social media has vilified her and certainly affected her ability to do speaking engagements and the like is ridiculous.

But social media is not real life. The problem, as stated repeatedly in this thread, is that it only takes a small fraction of militant radicals on social media to form a nominally substantial online "mob". The vast majority of folks left and right of center in the UK and US do not fall in this camp.

Rational centrist voices don't get engagement though. Radical voices that engender strong responses - positive or negative - get magnified.

A guy like Charlie Kirk (RIP) would not have been able to gain the type of following in previous generations. And make no mistake, his ability to grow a following helped radicalize a generation - and that's not a good thing.

I don't see our current problems as being right vs left. Our problems are centrist vs radicals.
