I've said this before, I don't really have issues with conservatives in other countries of our wealth level, but I can't with American conservatives. While it's true that at this point American Liberals have joined them, American Conservatives haven't lived in reality for decades, because there's always something telling them that liberals are the devil (thanks, Fox News).

Frankly, you can put the downfall of this country pretty much at the feet of the whole 'own the libs' origin situation where discourse was abandoned for rage bait. Since that started, discourse basically was flung into the sun and replaced with bad faith. Practically everything since then has been an escalation or counter-escalation. At that point people just said 'tough cookie, deal with it' which is fair, but unfortunately no political side in America is mature enough to leave it at that. Places outside of the country are, but not here.

Toxic individualism is a great description of what's happening in this country. People can't handle being wrong due to fragile self-esteem, so they ignore evidence, seek to anger people who show why their views might be incorrect, and take out their frustrations on others. This is who we are as a country.

Kimmel was much better when he was on Fox NFL Sunday. Johnny Carson hit the nail on the head when he went on record as being against mixing politics into late night talk shows. It's bad business being politcal in that situation. You're guaranteed to piss off a large chunk of your viewing audience no matter what your politicized statements are.
