November 11Nov 11 So, after waiting forever for Eagles football to return, I had to watch the game in a sports bar in Denver where I was outnumbered by Packers fans quite significantly. But thank God they had beer...a win is a win, and the defense was epic, but man that offensive performance was hard to watch.OFFENSEI'm a fan of Hurts, but he was off all night in this game. Even our 2 biggest plays -- the checkdown to Saquon was low, and the TD to Smitty was underthrown. The miss to Calcaterra was brutal, and even the last throw to AJ on 4th down was short (to be fair, he was being pressured up the middle). But his accuracy was just off all night. I think it was just one of those nights -- maybe the cold, or he just had a bad day. He's been generally very accurate this year, so I'm willing to just say he had a bad day. He did miss AJ a couple times, but I really think it was just not his day and then the play calling was abhorrent. The only real positive was he managed not to be sacked despite the Packers getting decent pressure.Kevin Patullo...wtf. The coward's draw on 3rd and long is back for some reason. Running over and over into the middle of the line after the 1st drive...I was screaming for them to run a pitch play to the weak side all game, and especially when they were trying to kill the clock. Go back and look -- the Packers were jamming the middle and strong side because they knew we wouldn't possibly run to the weak side. Most alarming -- the Packers CLEARLY had a tell on when we were running the ball versus going play action. Whatever it is that is giving that away needs to be fixed, or we are cooked.I was super confident after the 1st drive despite it ending with a turnover -- we marched down the field, Jalen made a great 3rd down conversion, AJ was involved. And then we completely abandoned everything that worked. 3 and out then next drive where 2 negative plays lead to a short pass on 3rd and 14. Then on the next drive, we get to 2nd and 2 and throw 2 incompletions. Next drive killed by penalties that create a 1st and 25...and that's the half. There is just no logic to our play calls at all. Nick, we like aggressiveness, but not recklessness. What in the hell was that call on 4th down at the end of the game? And maybe Jalen and AJ freelanced, but you're the one that sent the offense out there. Punt the damn ball and make Love go 50 yards in 27 seconds with no timeouts. Other than a brutal holding penalty (it was a legit call), it seemed Toth held up fine at center. Mailata killed us with the false starts. Lane is just a warrior, and Fred filled in well. Smitty is the most underrated player in the NFL, and I will hear no arguments.DEFENSEJaelen Phillips - wow. Just wow. The guy was a monster and all over the field. And Nolan looked great coming back from injury, while Hunt seems to be improving week by week. I didn't really notice BG other than blowing up one misdirection play by the Packers. But our edge group showed out. Detroit will present more of a challenge with their tackles, but a really encouraging start.Moro Ojomo is better than Milton Willams -- the 2024 version and the current version. Frankly, he's a LOT better than 2024 Milt. And that's with JC not being nearly as dominant.Jordan Davis seemed to player fewer snaps this game. Barely noticed him.Nakobe Dean makes no sense as he shouldn't be this good this close to his injury. Having 3 LBs we need to get on the field is such a weird problem to have. But Baun should never come off the field, and Dean is just so good that I understand Campbell getting fewer snaps. Maybe this helps Jihaad avoid the rookie wall.Q is unreal, but Coop was a little more up and down. And I am going to get flamed for this, but...Adoree has been serviceable since the opener. He's not good, he might not even be average. But it's not like he's a catastrophe. With a better rush, I'm less worried about CB2. Maybe Jaire or Bennett take the job, but if not, I think Jackson can make it work.Thank you, Vic Fangio. One last note -- this team is just playing a murderous schedule after playing into February last year. They have beaten the Chiefs, Packers and Bucs on the road and the Rams at home. No one else in the NFL has a resume close to that. While last night caused me to lose my mind on the offense, being 7-2 with this schedule is damn impressive in a year when there are no juggernauts.
November 11Nov 11 35 minutes ago, FranklinFldEBUpper said:I'm still lamenting last night's loss.I think the sequence that really triggered things was when we had 2nd and 8 in Packers territory with about 2:30 left in the game. Green Bay had two timeouts remaining and it seemed logical that we would run the ball twice and force the Packers to use their final timeouts. If we then get to fourth down -- and a fourth and inches and a tush push would have been poetic -- and convert, the clock runs to the two minute warning and we simply kneel it out. That seemed like the logical play. Instead, we throw two incompletions, Green Bay keeps their timeouts, and they have a lot of time left on the clock to do their thing. I just hated that sequence.Fortunately we stopped them and got the ball back. Great. The whole time I'm doing the math in my head and figuring that we're going to punt with about thirty seconds left. (And yes, I was annoyed at the end of every run in that sequence when it seemed like they kept putting time back on the clock for the Packers. It didn't go unnoticed.) I cannot understand not punting there. Oh, and of course Sirianni was right in not trying a field goal there. That would have been reckless. It's probably a "make" but a miss isn't that far-fetched. And a miss would have set the Packers up in pretty good field position. So a field goal was not the right play. And I'm not even really complaining about the "deep" throw rather than a shorter one. That isn't even the argument. Or complaint. What bothers me is that they even TRIED a fourth down conversion. The risk was simply too great. A miss means Green Bay gets the ball in a position where they're about twenty yards from field goal range. A punt -- which I think would take more time off the clock than a pass play -- probably puts them back at the ten. Worst realistic case is a touchback, which is still about fifteen yards of territory gained. It just boggles the mind.Okay, here's something else that came to me during the night. I think LaFleur made a strategic mistake at the end there, and in a way I think the Eagles were lucky that the Packers got away with something. When they lined up with five seconds to go to kick the 64-yard field goal, they should NOT have been allowed to get off a "practice" kick. That was sneaky on their part and they got away with it. But I think that actually worked out to our advantage because McManus was only short by about a yard. That probably gave them the sense that he could actually make it. So they properly tried a quick pass with five seconds left to nudge the kick up a couple of yards, which thankfully for us didn't work out.But here's where I think they screwed up. The odds of making that kick were slim. A 64-yarder is serious business in good conditions. But this is off grass. It's outdoors. It's windy. It's cold. I think the chance of that being successful were less than ten percent. Maybe five percent. But the thing is, even if they make it, it doesn't win the game for them. It only sends it to overtime where it's a 50/50 proposition for them to win. I honestly think the odds of a Hail Mary being successful were better. And if it worked, they win on the spot, not just put them into a coin flip for the win. If the odds of a Hail Mary were five percent and the odds of a successful kick were ten percent, it kind comes out the same mathematically. But I don't think the odds of a kick were twice as good as a Hail Mary pass.So in essence, I think that the completion the Packers had on second down with about fifteen seconds left was sort of a Goldilocks situation for us. It kinda worked out perfectly because it put them into a position where they thought a field goal might work. If that pass had gone a few yards less, they're definitely chucking it to the endzone on the last play. And if the completion had gone for a couple more yards, there would have been an actual chance the kick could have been made.I'm still upset about the loss but I'm encouraged by a few things. The defense is really starting to come together. The Jaelen Phillips/Nolan Smith infusion really seems to have upgraded the pass rush. And Brandon Graham made a impact in his limited action.I also think that colder weather games can kinda mask some of the deficiencies in the secondary. It's just harder to consistently move the ball through the air in cold weather games, so our weak link(s) there shouldn't be as vulnerable.Enough rambling.I can’t tell if this is tongue in cheek or if you actually think we lost the game

I can't remember them getting to him, but I guess they didn't have to when KP only had runs up the middle on his sheet that went for multiple losses They are playing a brutal schedule and if the offense doesn't stop leading the league in 3 and outs the defense is going to get worn down to dust by the end of December. They need to follow Detroit's lead and make some changes.

They might not be great but they aren’t leading the league in 3 and outs and consistently scoring 0 points for halves of games. The Eagles have one of the most talented offenses in the league. And it’s like a struggle most weeks for them to get themselves going. also have what I would call a lack of identity. The one thing you’re consistently good at on offense is success in the red zone (which is actually tougher due to the condensed field). But the problem is you’re 30th in the league in getting into the red zone. That's hyperbole. That's the first time the Eagles were shut out for a quite a while (in a meaningful game).

I was thinking over the weekend about the lack of consistently dominant teams when I read a comment here about the line on last nights game. I think the odds makers are just not confident this year at all due to the way the season has gone thus far. I think a few teams are going to separate themselves from the pack over the next few weeks and PHI is at the top of that pack no matter what the score diffs look like in these wins to come and the ones they’ve already gotten.

The year before he declared people were talking about how great the Alabama WRs were coming out that year and some pointed to Smith returning as a problem, because they had pegged him as the best of that bunch. Given what we've seen in that class from Alabama, it would be hard to say that he's not clearly the best from UofA. After that, there's only two WRs that I'd say are definitively in that discussion... JJ and Chase. I think there's virtually no way to be definitive about which one is better. Smith just doesn't get the spotlight due to how he's used. But, his skill set is easily on par with them... and better than Brown, IMO.

November 11Nov 11 Toth has filled in admirably, but he still launched his snaps all over the place in the shotgun. Need to get Jurgens healthy and hopefully Johnson heals fast and is himself by the playoffs. Offense is still a work in progress. I'm keeping my eyes on the defense being up to championship caliber. They took that next step last night. That's my main takeaway as far as winning a Superbowl this season. They now have the horses on the DL. Think the offense will come around just like last year, when it's time. Just too much talent there and not all that worried about it. And Adoree wasn't all that bad. Fangio now has a better pass rush to help that and knows how to hide him well. Still would love to see if JA can get healthy. Can use his playmaking skills back there.

November 11Nov 11 @jojodancer Yes on the Toth shotgun random snap locationsHe has to be better or someone else has to play.Hurts has to get to the line with 4 seconds on the clock due to brain dead Patullo and then he has to catch snaps at his ankles.
