EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

It would be pretty hilarious if the Eagles fired Patullo, hired Mike McDaniel and the offense looked the same next season. The fans would turn on Hurts in a hurry.

I wouldn’t even want this idiot getting coffee for the new OC

Agreed. And I could 100% see that happening.

Another thing that makes McDaniel attractive is if he's successful next year, he probably gets another HC job in 2017. He's a minority so whoever hires him can also basically lock in 2 3rd round comp picks. I'd bring him in for that reason alone.

Long-term thinking, nice.

Mike Tomlin stepped down.

Brian Flores feels like a Steelersy hire. I don't think that job is particularly attractive given they have no QB. But the organization is solid. The Steelers usually march to the beat of their own drum when it comes to hires.

Man, if they were ever going to make a change from Nick this year is certainly interesting with all the candidates.

KP would make an excellent Steelers HC.

Harbaugh to the Steelers

Tomlin to the Ravens

I had no idea Nick had a podcast. Dude doesn't pull any punches. He was saying that if you gave the Eagles talent to McVay, Shanahan, LaFleur, they would win a Superbowl. Then he said maybe not LaFleur, he would build a 28-3 lead and probably lose.

To the 2025 season.

If Sirianni was a good coach he could disguise simple concepts to make them successful. Kyle Shanahan runs an incredibly complex system that is simple for a QB to operate in and succeed. Sirianni isn't a good x's and o's coach. He may unerstand fundamentals and is good at managing players. He's not good at running a scheme.

There is still an extrinsic factor that can not be ignored that people love to ignore. Some things are not possible.

I don't even know about that one anymore. Two out of the last three seasons have been filled with locker room drama, him and AJ were going at it on the sideline even though I know he defends that as "that's just the type of relationship we have", and he may preach fundamentals but this team was awful at them all season long. So many plays called back due to holding, illegal man downfield, or some sort of other penalty on almost a weekly basis. This was anything but a fundamentally sound football team this season.

Could be a FB option

Because he's white?

Yeh that is for sure Inside Zone read. The issue I see is the angle of SB at the mesh point. If he stays more off tackle (Offenses left) vs middle he is not getting caught by 91, he is almost verticle as soon as he gets the ball. The hole was to SB's left, he was headed upfield too early from what this shows imo...I don't know what the down and distance was, if was short yardage I get why he got vertical so quickly. Hurts made the correct read, 91 did make it harder by committing late though.

I could see it better on this one but I think the defender definitely has most of his weight on his left leg meaning he was heading right. I get where Jalen is making split second read. Still the problem with the playcall is they don't really worry about Jalen running it. I still think Jalen would need to be keeping some of these to keep 91 in check. Part of the problem when there are no real QB runs early it allows defenders to ignore the threat. I agree SB should be heading off tackle rather than straight upfield

I actually like this move as a FB option. He’s a solid player

Luckily we kept him from signing with the Niners where Shanahan would've unleashed him.

What are the mysterious inner workings? He's calling the plays.

I think the guy below and I have a pretty good idea what the inner working he is referencing.

What explains the regression and lack of cohesiveness between the run game and the passing game.

I actually think Sirianni goes before Hurts. Everyone in that lockerroom loves him, especially Lurie

Definitely play calling is on Patullo and that's why I'm excited to see him go.

Scheme, that's a Hurts issue.

Translation: terrible OC in over his head and hamstrung by an already limited QB that he has no clue how to get the best out of because Hurts struggles in so many areas

As many have said, the offense is no different. What is different, is man for man across the board the Eagles were winning with more talent. With the line banged up, and teams able to sit on the run game more, Hurts was not getting the easy looks, and he is no longer wanting to run.

He is going in the next 2-3 years. The only question is how much value do they want to get before he falls apart

McNabb was done in his early 30s and was a better passer. I'm guessing two years for Hurts since he already looks slower. That's the window. Brown and JM probably about the same if the first stays that long and we know Lane will be gone as well.

Hopefully, Williams can eventually replace JM and they get Lane's replacement this year.
