  • Good news. I got an email back from VABeach_Eagle, he is ok. He has been tending to his mother's health as she's been in the hospital, and exhausted lately. He says he will be more available to log on

Any word on Reed? Might have to move Coop to S with Epps in base then slide Carter in on nickel (either at NCB or switch with Coop).

Justin Simmons is a weird one. I don’t think I ever even heard of him working out for any team this year. I know he expressed wanting to play for Philly multiple times in the summer but I question what he has left and why no other team bothered trying to sign him. Bring him in and watch him become the third guy to retire in season.

You know what they say? Third times the charm

I mentioned Epps but he’s on IR and i guess they didn’t make him eligible to return. Or that’s what was said last night.

Damn, thought he was on the PS. When did he even get hurt?

We are staring down the barrel of another game in which the offense will have to win it.

Complete shuffling of the secondary on a 4 day turnaround with a defense that got absolutely gassed against Dallas...against a respectable offense and another bad defense. I think Vic and the front 7 plus Mitchell/Dejean will find a way to keep it respectable and avoid getting totally gashed, but they are going to give up plays and points and will not be available to bail the offense out.

Not saying it will take 50 points, but the offense will have to win them a game. I can't fathom losing to the Bears, but it's also tough to imagine this offense taking over a game and winning it if it's in their hands.

I knew he went on IR. i thought he was eligible to return. Isn’t until after bears game if he even could. But apparently not an option this week. Beginning of November. Nov 1 with ojulari

He has only missed 3 games. Has to miss one more before they can try to bring him back.

So in the bye week Howie spent assets and got Michael Carter and Jaire when CJGJ, Simmons and Gilmore were free. Just an example of Howie missing. Now what? Bennett still stuck on the bench. Lotta lil moves that are nothings. And could be something. Some bad roster evaluation going on here. And underutilization of good talent. And Gipson? He was known to be a fumbler with the Jets. 😆

So here's the rub with spine surgery in athletes; it's not nearly as well protocolized or evidence-based as broken bones, torn knee ligaments, or ankle injuries.

A player tears an ACL and the average fan knows the exact trajectory they are on. Season immediately over. Surgery. Rehab. Likely back week 1.

A player feels a pop in their back, gets some back pain shooting into their leg...MRI shows a disc bulge. They could be back next week. Or their entire career can go south. When the pain and compression are bad enough, they get a minimally invasive microdiscectomy. And the recovery from that has a bigger window than ACL surgery too. Some patients respond really poorly to the work on the back and the structure change...can even pop the disc back out and it's worse than re-tearing an ACL. Others....they really fly after that surgery and it's a much smaller speedbump than a knee injury on a career.

The issue is that a lot of that is unknowable up front...which surprises me that they were willing to extend him in the offseason. It's a lot harder for a team doc to rubber stamp a spine than a knee. I do think Howie, after SB titles, has thrown around some sentimental money, including after 2017.s

Someone in my family had a microdiscectomy recently; thankfully it was at the good end of the scale, but the recovery is slow. They reported instant pain relief post op, but their spine is still adjusting to the surgery and is still doing minimal lifting etc. Jurgens is a warrior for gutting through it, but there has to be an adult somewhere to say no more.

And that high step before sliding looked so lame.

Meh. He was trying to juke and go inside and changed his mind, IMO. SHOULD HAVE just run straight to the boundary for another yard or three.

Just saying no one in the nfl has picked up Gilmore or Simmons. There’s kind of a reason for that. Simmons was pretty bad last year for Atlanta. Pff graded him 59.9 and 69 out of 97 safety’s. Don’t even need PFF just watch falcons defense last year their safety position was a mess.

If he’s able to return for the chargers game then I’m fine with him and Blakenship. Tbh he’s probably better against the run than mukuba is at this stage of his career and as an experience vet I’m guessing probably won’t get as many rookie mistakes

Who knows. They listed it as an undisclosed injury too coming out of the bye, so no idea what is even wrong.

Well, that's what I heard about CJGJ. No one picked him up yet so he's washed. He knew our defense as well. Those guys are better than Jackson, Ringo and Brown is my point. And provide leadership. They don't have to be world beaters. Just barely adequate is fine, with our front seven. And Coop and Q as staples back there. They were going to be depth at worst and be ready to fill in for injuries. But tic toc... it's getting late now.

Pass rush lane discipline will be important against Caleb. I can see a similar scenario with the problem they had against Dart in the first Giants game where they couldn’t contain him. Willams will extend plays and run around.

Imagine being a fan of the sport for decades, seeing a variation of this multiple times per game this season, and still thinking Tanner McKee would somehow excel in these circumstances. What fun it must be to have such a wild imagination.

No one said CJGJ was washed. People said he was a pain in the ass. Just so you know the bears defense has been bad this year with and without him. He’s played in 4 games they’ve given up 26.8ppg. Add on the qbs were Flacco, Jameis, jj McCarthy and mason rudolph.

That there is terrible and brutal microcosm of every 3rd and long. Defenders probably study our offensive tape for about 30 minutes and call it good. Preparing for us is like PTO for them.

A lot of options available til Mukuba comes back for the playoffs.

Sydney Brown is tremendous in coverage.

Sam is a nifty little player. Smart and gritty.

Epps knows the system, can be activated off IR.

Move Michael Carter to safety.

Tons of great options. Or they can sign CJGJ away from the Bears.

AJ is a PITA too. Who cares? I dunno what happened there. Bottom line, the backups are ass in secondary. And it was obvious.

I would assume if Gilmore or Simmons had anything left in the tank they’d be on a roster.
