I find it very interesting that our last 3-4 OCs all have used the same passing tree concepts, or even more interesting the lack of certain schemes/route concepts.

I wonder why? Is it really an OC problem or something else 🤔

Study the bottom chart for a couple hours and see if you can figure out the answer to your own question.

The alleged conversation

Eagles: Hey Brian, its Nick Sirianni here. Can you help us scheme up Jalen Hurts and the O for the playoffs. We're kind of stale and basic

Daboll: Hey Nick, do the opposite of what you are doing. I'm going to head down the beach for a beer and sunbathe, good luck in the playoffs.

Cool story here, I lost my mother to cancer in 2019, a fall and ER visit on my birthday found the cancer. She was gone in three weeks. I then lost my MIL four months later to cancer as well.

If you can afford the screening consider it, if not for you, for your family, you’re important to someone other than us idiots on the EMB 😂.

Bingo

There is a reason why under the last 3 OCs the passing offense/routes are the exact same and we see zero creativity. I fully believe Jalen is the handicap of this offense.

The run game has bailed us out in the past, now teams are going all in on stopping the run asking Jalen to beat them with his arm. With the limited route tree he wants to throw the scheme is screwed for any OC that comes in here.

I wonder how much is jalen, and how much is the analytics saying something like less turnovers occur on hitch routes. I mean they run an inane amount of hitches which is a pretty conservative " safe" route, more so than an out to the boundary or a go or deep post/ dig.

Jalens talked before about the coaches taking off the straight jacket and while I dont think jalen is an elite passer when the coaches let him rip it hes shown he can be effective

Take Rams game for example, theyre down multiple scores in the 2nd half go almost exclusively no huddle and Hurts has his best passing game of the year and brings them back, so I dont think its a matter of hurts not being able to pass effectively I think its more hes being told to be super conservative and the scheme dictates that

Or a superbowl MVP QB is a bum that couldnt hit the broad side of a barn🤷‍♂️

Could you imagine AJ Brown doing that? It would be a nightmare for teams to plan around.

Rams used this play several times against us and it gave our defense issues, and I think they also had Puka run up the B gap too. This is completely out of Patullos wheelhouse.

To be fair, this is mostly effective because of how often WRs like Puka and Amon-Ra block from these same inserts on run plays. Without that element, these inserts are just telegraphing intent and don't really put any DBs in conflict.

They're not the same. The 2022 passing offense looked nothing like this. There's plenty of data that's been posted literally proving you wrong but you'll continue to repeat the above as if it were true because of obvious reasons.

I just want to focus on smaller issues today. Forget the routes, QB, OC.

If Dickerson is going to be a banged up LP in practice all week, he shouldn’t start Friday.

Something needs to change on the OL and the first thing to try is healthy players.

Totally agree, ive been saying for weeks that dickerson and jurgens should sit down, theyve been really bad especially jurgens.

Put some young guys in

Toth looked better with a full week of practice and while hes no all pro he has two functional legs and can run. Kendall, hinton, lampley, why not see wht they got? If they suck go back to dickerson, just not pryor, ever, for any reason.

I get theyre " warriors" but when them being warriors is hurting the team and offense the coaches need to do whats best for the team and sit them down.

warriors don't help the team if the interior of the OL keeps getting blown up.

Yup, AJ would kill on this play.

Detroit all runs it with St brown

Was his only big catch against eagles

Should we go back to the 2022 RPO-based offense; are there any hurdles to replicating its success?

Were you able to catch the sarcasm this time?

Hurts doesnt run as effectively as he did in 22 and I think defenses have caught up a bit to RPOs.

Something the 2022 offense did that this offense doesnt is run more crossing routes.

Defenses are also playing eagles offense with barkley different than in 2022 playing a ton of zone.

I also think the leagues emphasis on calling OL illegally downfield on RPOs has decreased the amount of RPOs teams run, the play really puts OL in a bind and I think Coaches just dont want to risk picking up a penalty on an RPO.

Seems like in 2022 every team was running RPO every play and the league I think kind of put a stop to it with the emphasis on illegal man downfield, not to say teams still dont run RPOs but its a lot less frequent than 2022 especially for eagles this year who run it a couple times a game and its seems its always a designed pass out of it

Playing people who aren't injured to the point they are a liability would be a good start.

@mattwill

The unraveling continues. I'm predicting a complete meltdown.

Hard to say, we weren't in the room during installs in the off-season and throughout camp, so it's not immediately obvious how much of those concepts still exist in the playbook or how much they've been repping it throughout the season (timing needs to be sharp.) Also, RPOs can only work with certain shorter hitting routes like arrows and slants, definitely not anything with longer vertical stems like we've been seeing with Patullo.

Outside of RPOs, we also ran way more mesh and deep crossers. Right now, I'd bet we run drags or mesh at a lower rate than almost every other team in the league. It's a great man beater on 3rd and intermediate distances, much better odds of converting compared to a surrender draw or all hitches, but we just never see it. Just like timing is critical on RPOs, spacing is critical on mesh and drags, but likewise, if you're not repping it often in practice, how good could it possibly look on Sundays? Then there's so much I'd love to see us run that other teams use well like Texas routes and slip screens but we've never really seen any of that since Nick's been here.

Crazy. This is the most talented group on offense they’ve probably ever had and we have ruined it with a terrible HC/OC combo. We legitimately have won games just on sheer talent alone. That’s why I’ve always called Siri the Dave Roberts of the NFL.. nothing special about him just fortunate to have a ton of talent, more so than any other team

Except the O-line and run game has been far, far away from being the most talented in the league.

While yes they have talented WRs and Goedert is a good TE, the run game and O-line struggling has severely hindered the offense. Makes them easier to defend.
