Maybe.

I'd be willing to bet if we had a QB that won MVP with a terrible roster he wouldn't get blasted as much

Hurts was runner up MVP in 2022 and still some hated him and called him trash.

Eagles fans are harsh on literally every QB. There's a reason for the old quote "the most popular player in Philadelphia is the backup QB."

The O was dog water till after the Jags game though. It was saquon carrying. The D turned it on and ramped up after the bye.

It wasn't as bad as it is now though, the biggest thing I remember after the bye was less turnovers from hurts. I still remember that dumb int in the endzone in the game vs the saints. That was a boring game but the defense was soo great in that game despite hurts' turnovers.

Because the vast majority of QBs we've had over the last 30+ years have been heavily flawed, overall.

Stop acting like the fan base is destroying a Drew Brees caliber Quarterback

That’s probably true. It’s why I think some people who take when hurts being criticized like you wouldn’t be doing this if it was Josh Allen. No they would still be doing if Josh Allen was here when we are having the same problems.

Now there’s been seasons with quarterbacks where we’ve defended the quarterback more and leaned more towards roster construction and coaching. Like 2019 when Carson wentz. He wasn’t playing great to start the year because you kept seeing all these videos all over Twitter about how the offense was stale and predictable. As well as he was missing throws and not reading the field well and hyper focused on just throwing it to ertz. But there was more of a collaborative. The roster construction wasn’t good, the coaching wasn’t good enough and Carson wentz also wasn’t good enough.

Carson's rookie year there was promise, then his MVP like season in 2017 gave us hope that they finally found an elite QB long-term. But even then people criticized his hero ball, too aggressive on runs, he's going to get hurt (he did) and people always doubted him coming from a small school, hated him for expressing his faith too.

Eagles fans always hate their QB.

We complained about the passing offense last year but the run game was unstoppable. The defense was also carrying the team while this year they are starting to look tired and getting shaky. I don’t recall getting out gained the majority of the year and our point differential was second highest in the league.

Anything can happen, but there are some pretty big differences that they just don’t currently have to suggest a run is in them.

Yes. And when the run game was shut down, the passing game performed in the SB. Yes the defense carried them. The defense was getting better recently until they were on the field too much. Every season is different. The Eagles still have the talent on the roster and the opportunity if they do the right things. Other teams that fans have thought were great and a threat have been losing, sometimes to lesser teams. No one is elite in the NFL right now.

Of course there are better QBs than Hurts. Consider how things played out though. Let's say they never drafted Hurts (which was a surprise to us at the time after signing Wentz to that contract). The 2020 season goes the same and they fire Doug and get rid of Wentz. Then they need a new QB. And new Head Coach Nick Sirianni can give his input to the QB he will work with.

The QBs taken in the 2021 draft:

Screenshot 2025-11-30 171756.png

They originally had the #8 pick. Would Howie have traded up for either Lawrence (meh), Wilson (bust) or Lance (bust)? They went #1-#3, and Howie would have had to trade up more capital to get them, leaving less assets for what they did the next year (trade for AJ Brown, draft Davis, trade back to get future pick to draft Carter). Would he have stayed put and taken Fields (bust) or Mac Jones (bust)?

Any one of those guys would get roasted by fans more than Hurts. And they wouldn't have DeVonta Smith who they took in that draft.

The Eagles also signed Joe Flacco that year, then traded him. Perhaps he could have been a stop gap. But would they have won games? Flacco didn't do ish for 4 years, until this year all of a sudden a resurgence.

If they did that and waited until 2022 to draft a QB, the options were:

Screenshot 2025-11-30 173045.png

Again, each of them would be criticized just as much or more than Hurts.

Hurts isn't a great passer and we will see how things go, when the time comes that they move on from him who they replace him with. Whoever that guy is will get run out of town by the fans too. Fans criticized McNabb, Vick, Wentz, every QB. Eagles fans are never happy with the QB.

If we are to believe Adam caplan, the eagles were interested in Jordan love in the 2020 draft. I think some of that is because Carson went wasn’t very durable. But I also think it’s they wanted to have a back up plan in case they’re worst fears were Carson was more of early season 2019 rather than late season 2019.

All those quarterbacks stink besides Lawrence who’s not been what the jags probably envisioned. Frankly, there was the rumor at the time that they were trying to trade up for Zack Wilson because they liked Zach Wilson. That would’ve been a disaster.

Well Saquon had a historic year, so ya obviously it wasn’t. But the inability to score for almost entire halves was consistent. Inability to sustain drives. Etc

If Dean didn’t make that game saving INT, it was a 2 year straight collapse or Siri was fired after that game in Jax.

He wasn’t a ‘runner up’ that year was he? It was the next…the SB year? The one they gave to Lamar after a historically poor overall performance league wide by all QB’s.

Seems like Josh Allen hasn't told anybody he doesn't like designed runs.

I thought he'd get injured more often because he takes a ton of hits

I think the majority of the fan base didn’t turn on Carson Wentz until the end. There were people who were skeptical of him when he was drafted. That’s almost every player. We had people who were skeptical of devonta and wanted ruggs and waddle over him. Fans were skeptical after Nick Foles did what he did in 2017 and then 2018. Were some who wanted Foles but it was the smaller crowd. But by the end of 2019, a lot of people were on his bandwagon because the last month of the season and with the talent he had around him. That all eroded based off how he played in 2020 and then by the time the off-season came people were over them because we figured and it was leaking out he wanted to leave.

Eagles fans find some reason to hate almost every player on the team at some point. AJ Brown said exactly what was good to happen to this team if they didn’t correct things going forward. It’s exactly what he said would go down. Now there’s people going he ruined team chemistry. Teammates still say they love him in that locker room. Or fans say he’s happy he got his even though the team lost. Which I’m guessing he’s still not happy as he wants to help them win games as he knows he can do it as he’s a top 10 wr. I get it not ideal way of going about saying it, but he was accurate about what would happen if they didn’t fix the problems.

You either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Besides not wanting to be injured; Hurts also doesn't want to risk losing his job to McKee

It's just a fact. We had McNabb who is considered by many the best QB in the team history and he was criticized a lot, too.

I never paid attention in other years but it seems like that’s the solution most teams are coming up with to stop it, even though it’s pretty basic. Not sure why Hurts is struggling with it unless it was just two flukes.

Maybe it is a fluke but if it happens again then somethings up.

Well taking Jordan Love would have been better than taking Reagor at least. 😅

no he wasn’t. That was 2021. He was runner up MVP in 2022 after we got AJ brown and smith was in his second season.

There are always factions of people who choose their QB and run the same debate points into the ground. Kolb vs Vick, Vick vs Foles, Foles vs Bradford...there were even some who wanted Mark Sanchez to start. Then Wentz vs Foles, Wentz vs Hurts, some wanted Minshew to start, some want McKee to start.

You're right. Some fans this week have trashed Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis saying they haven't done ANYTHING all year.

There are always a small group of people that just are negative and over the top when the team is losing.

That is why no matter who the QB is, he would get criticism from the fan base. On some social media platforms, there are a lot of fans that support Jalen Hurts and recognize that while he does have issues and weaknesses, his OC doesn't help him at all.

Had 15 picks in the 2019 and 2020 drafts, hurts is the only one we have a second contract too. qhite the contrast when comparing 2021-2024 drafts

It was 2022 he was the "runner up” but they gave it to Mahomes, partly because Hurts got injured and missed almost the last month. That was Smiths second year and first with AJ

There was a decent, loud portion that turned on Wentz early because they wanted to keep Foles and trade Wentz. Especially after the 2018 post season where Foles showed a little magic again.
