Small quick story about Hackenberg.

He hunts/fishes with a HS buddy of mine, whom I still keep in touch with. Apparently, CH, as of like 4 years ago, was still living off of the coin he made in his brief NFL time. Something close to $4M. Good for him, I say.

Too bad he couldn't stay in the NFL as a career backup. Could have made another $8M maybe, i.e, Chase Daniel.

I don’t usually get personal on here, but your post hit me. I’ve been where you are. I’ve had a couple suicide attempts in my past and spent time in inpatient treatment afterward. I’m still in therap

With a decent investment you should be able to live off 4 million for the rest of your life.

And never touch the principal.

Off topic - I don't know if anyone else has this with their TVs but I have a Vizio TV and they have these premium free channels, and one of them is an NFL channel.

They're showing replays of past drafts and they were showing the 2011 draft last night.... and with the 23rd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select - Danny Watkins, Guard Baylor

I screamed at the TV and threw my dinner on the floor.

Haha watching the 2017 draft right now. Titans select Corey Davis 5th overall 💀

At least the team that AJ will be going to which he has been trying to be traded to will be dealing with this media circus heading into the season.

Howie is going to get us at least Patriots 1st next year and I could see that team turning into a clown shown of a media circus while also dealing with the Super Bowl loss hangover and giving us a top 15 first round pick next year.

lol! And I really wanted Davis! Good thing I'm not the Eagles' GM.

Exactly

That takes discipline and a plan. Hopefully, he is smart and has both.

I hated his age but remember being somewhat hopeful he’d have a dominate 5-6 years in the league. Ever since, I’ve been ageist to an extreme degree.

I blame @Don Corleone for making me like him as a prospect

Geez did your mom make you pick up your hot pocket off the floor after that?

If he grossed $4 million he'd net what, maybe 60-70% of that? He's young. I'd think he'd want to do something besides hunt and fish. Maybe get a job as a coaching assistant at a nearby college or something. If he were making enough to cover his monthly expenses and let the principal and interest/dividends accumulate he'd have an even nicer chunk. If god forbid he winds up in a wheelchair or something it'd be nice to have a healthy bag.

Nothing would prevent that if that's what he wanted to do.

And he can feel free to be a coaching assistant or a high school coach and not worry about how much money they can afford to pay to do it. Not a lot of high school coach positions are 'full-time'. Most of them are just part-time in addition to a teaching schedule. At my school, the football coach is a building sub, who substitute teaches all day in addition to his coaching duties. He could work just as a coach for the part time salary that a school could offer and spend more time prepping and watching film, etc. And STILL have plenty of free time to hunt, fish, drive go-carts, play golf.... whatever. That is... if he was smart with his money from day 1.

He’s not under the same pressure as the rest of us to pay the mortgage, etc. but the guy is too young not to have a purpose.

Agreed. Not having a purpose is a problem, but that doesn't necessarily equate to a full-time job. Volunteer work can be just as fulfilling, if not more fulfilling, than full-time employment. I'm gearing up to retire in about 9 years, God willing, but I don't plan to no longer have a purpose in my life at that time. I plan to have the ability to spend my time more purposefully than I currently am, because I won't have the pressures of a full-time job to take up my time.

Well back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, making the PB meant more than it does now. I would think (hope) the HoF voters no longer give it as much weight as they did.

I don’t know when the fan vote started being part of the PB, but that ended it meaning anything to me. Plus so many players aren’t going to the PB so they have to get down to the 5th or 6th alternate in some positions. I mean, Shedeur Sanders was in the PB last year.

No statute of limitations for vehicular homicide in Florida (second degree felony). Wonder how that impacts his draft status. Carter dropped for a lesser degree risk.
