The fact that they even interviewed Matt Nagy is concerning.

I feel like people had Nick Foles as a more serious one. People legit wanting it all over Twitter

I would love him to be there but I know he doesn't want to

To be fair, if even half the reports out of the locker room are true, I wouldn’t want to be the OC here either.

The QB won’t listen to anyone, the players don’t like him, the coach won’t let anyone change his offense, even though he doesn’t have an offense to speak of, the WR1 wants to be traded, and any time the team struggles your house might get vandalized in between cryptic tweets online.

Sign me up roll

The only thing that could make this day better is if we get a report that the Eagles are interviewing Arthur Smith.

On the Steelers front

Surprised he’s not getting more buzz. Has pretty much that whole defense playing above expectations

Gotta hope Brady doesn’t get Cardinals or Raiders job and doesn’t go to Ravens as OC

That’ll be tomorrow

Nick loves his system and does get too involved sometimes. They may say he is willing to stay out of things, but I doubt people believe it fully or that there won't be giving too many "suggestions" at times.

I also think he's going through the motions with bigger names, but also looking for a guy like Nagy who will be open to those suggestions from him.

Based on the cardinals it still is widely expected to be Vance Joseph. Who knows with the raiders. Only thing I saw was it was gonna be an offensive mind to work with Mendoza. Tbh I don’t love Mike McCarthy, but I feel like that would be a good spot for him to work with Mendoza in his early stages.

Imagine one day waking up with Josh Allen as your Qb and then the next day it’s shedeur sanders…

The fact that this is the second time that we go from Superbowl Champ to tire fire in short order is amusing and terrifying.

Same crap happened after Frank Reich left.

He's a bigger name. Why people like that would go to a crap team like the Cardinals is beyond me. You won't win and in 4-5 years you are back to being an OC for a year. Browns, Cardinals, Jets, and Raiders are going to stay the bottom teams for a long time IMO based on ownership and the teams in their divisions.

What younger guys? New TE? One or two OL who Stout will be working with? Maybe a new WR?

I love Schwartz but that would be a terrible hire. Not that they likely have good choices.

Chance Aj, goedert, lane are all gone. That’s 3 big pieces that may be replaced with 3 younger guys. Imo Over next couple years they are going to shift to more young players and rookie contracts like they did with the defense

They are hosed. If they hire McDermott they likely lose Schwartz and then the team is worse. If they hire Schwartz I don't see how you could argue they'll be better

Well, to be honest, nothing is wrong with the root of his system in theory. I know people always assume the worst implementation of it is his system, because the fanbase despises Nick and has since he started jawing with people, but that's just not true. But he really just doesn't have the people to run it. It's been mentioned that like I expected, he shows Phillip Rivers tape with his offense before, because Phillip is the prototype. We don't have that, Hurts can't play that.

But that's the problem. We have a recorded example where the OC was asked to do something else because Hurts wasn't the kind of QB that could pick up a passing oriented system easily. In theory there's nothing wrong with Hurts being like that if you can make it work but uh...

Yeah, to be honest I don't think it's about Nick - even Defensive Head Coaches with OCs aren't going to not even give a SUGGESTION. That's just not realistic in a high pressure environment. However, is it possible that they put the can on things because the HC is feeling the pressure to be fired thanks to the Owner and GM feeling the pressure from the fanbase, and they put the lid on trying to develop Jalen as a passer again?

Because that's really what we're talking about. Needing to develop Jalen as a passer, and some probably feel that could take time and have growing pains. It's a real mess if you look at it that way.

Frankly, the Browns really need to consider trading ward and Garrett. Get all the draft picks you can over the next couple of years. And start from ground zero and build it. Because by the time you build it with those two on the roster and then it becomes good. It is likely they’re on the decline and you’re eventually looking for the replacements. So you’re better off doing it now and stockpiling picks to allow you to build the team in the image that you weren’t going forward. And then hopefully get out of the Deshaun Watson contract after a year or two.

Yeah, but at the same time the offense should be in good shape next year.

Johnson seems to be coming back for one more. Draft a LT high.

Sign MB if he gets cut or another vet who is better at run blocking than Steen and use a high pick on OG.

Draft a TE at some point and keep DG for one more year. I don't love the idea of Pitts or a rookie with the backups they had this year.

They will need to draft a WR or sign JD which probably won't happen. Wilson coming back helps with run blocking as well. Maybe they view Coop as WR3 as well and if they keep Brown they should be set.

At center they have Kendall and Lampkin. Throw in Williams stepping up to backup Maliata, F Johnson being signed again, and Steen playing the backup guard role for a year until he walks and two high picks the OL should be solid with a lot of depth.

RB they have Tank and Barkley.

Mostly will be people who have been here with a few young guys having time to learn and grow. Should be good and in transition at the same time.

This guy is part of that silly PHLY crew. Every previous and most current interviews are retreads. If you want to define the guys you don't like as 'uninspiring' then fine. It's fair not to want guys. But they are nearly all retreads except for a few. And hiring a guy who has never done it before under a guy you want less involved isn't a good formula. Risks are fine. Dumb risks are not

How do you plan on replacing him?

I don't plan on doing anything. It isn't my job. I'm curious what they do though.

I'll take that job of figuring it out though. I'll quit my job right now and go work for Howie if that is what they want.

^ I just posted something about this above. They should be in good shape. 3 spots shouldn't be a huge deal, especially if they keep F Johnson as a rookie RT learns the ropes IF Lane doesn't come back. I think he will for one more year. At TE they really need to keep DG for one more year unless they make a trade for a vet. Even if they draft one high I'd like to see him be able to learn from a better vet than the horrible backups they had. I'd be shocked if Brown gets traded. I think he's back for one more year. If a good one is there maybe that happens, but they could use the picks on so many other things like OT, OG, TE, DL, CB2, or safety.

And when they don't scheme them open, the QB throws them open.

Yeah, Hurts has never done that. Since the Hurts haters minds are forgetful in his first 2 seasons with Brown and Smith: Brown had just under 3000 yards receiving, 194 receptions, 18 TDs. Smith had around 2250 yards, 176 receptions, 14 TDs. Totals for just those two WRs in 2022 and 2023: 370 receptions, roughly 5250 yards, 32 TDs. But Hurts can't hit anyone in stride, can't throw open, is just a do nothing QB. Maybe, just maybe, coaching matters, scheme matters, play calling matters, good play by all units matters.
