Diana Russini expounded a little about the Eagles situation on a podcast. Notable stuff:

-Brian Daboll's dream job of his career is HC of the Bills, he wants that job very badly. If not, the Titans want him a heck of a lot and Daboll really likes the Titans job as well.

-Coaches would have full autonomy elsewhere, but in fairness to the Eagles they have told McDaniel and Daboll the offense would be totally their show, no constraints.

-The Eagles job offer will be waiting there for Daboll if he wants it, nothing is set in stone and we'll see what he wants to do.

-Eagles are expanding their list and she mentioned Bobby Slowik, Zac Robinson, possibly Brian Callahan as names they could pivot to(not reporting just throwing out names). She also said Joe Brady could be in play if he doesn't get the Bills job.

-She said it's no secret around the league, we don't even need to report it, why other teams are passing on the Eagles job. McDaniel chose Herbert over Hurts and she said if Daboll were to choose the Titans over the Eagles, it would tell you what he thinks of Ward and Hurts.

-She said she expects the Eagles process to take a while, interviewing other candidates and seeing who takes what jobs and who is available.

I think you’re being more positive. I think DG is likely gone and I think AJ is likely gone. Even if he’s back in 2026, he’s gone in 2027. Even if you get lanes replacement it’s not a given he’s ready to take over in the first year. Also have steen coming up in his last year. I don’t think it’s unthinkable if Jurgens or Dickerson are gone after 2026 if they aren’t good.

there’s going to be a turnover in 2027 regardless. It is going to be a younger roster. I thought Howie did a good job in his presser kind of alluding to that. In 2027 and 2028 I think there’s gonna be a higher turnover than what people think within the next core of the Eagles offense. And you gotta remember Saquon Barkley is about to be 30 entering 2027. And bigsby is only under contract through 2026. It is going to look like a very different offense by 2028. The only guys you might recognize on this roster on offense by then are mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Smith and hurts and some of those guys are not givens

Tbh I think he’s alluding to Nagy in general. Frankly, I get it. Since he’s been in Kansas City, that offense has deteriorated and not been as good as prior to getting there. It’s not all on him. But I think the most damning thing is Andy Reid wants to bring back Eric Bienemy over keeping Nagy around. So he went back to the guy before Nagy after a couple years with Nagy.

This is why I also don't buy the "everyone good was taken" bull about KP last year. We are 4 days away from the week KM interviewed with the Saints and they knew he was leaving. Yeah, the top people may have been gone, but there were Slowiks and Callahans out there, but Nick wanted his guy. You can't tell me there wasn't anyone from the college ranks like Weis either.

If DG is gone Howie needs to make a trade and draft one high. That being said I'd still try to bring him back.

AJ is probably gone after this year, but why eat that money and open a giant hole this year when they don't have to? If someone amazing is there grab him in the draft. If not run it back.

They have two options at center to backup Jurgens this year. Roll with them

We keep hearing Williams would have been considered in the first round this year if he went back to T. Hopefully, he's a good depth piece behind Maliata.

Drafting a guard in the first few rounds should be a priority if Dickerson goes or not. There has to be a vet who can run block better than Steen and that would be my priority because if the run game gets going that offense moves. Steen is fine as a backup.

A young RT won't have to take over right away if Lane is back. If not you have F Johnson start for most of the year until the kid is ready.

2027 will have change, but the OC won't need to be dealing with that as a major issue this year if they do things right. They can't patch all the holes with 23, 54, 68, 98, 122, and 137, but they should be able to get a few and make that transition a lot easier. They also can't just draft offense high if they let JP and Blank go, which is another reason they shouldn't trade Brown this year.

I'm optimistic for next year and the future.

There’s a lot of people on Twitter, making the excuse that they couldn’t get the coordinator they wanted because of the Super Bowl run. Meanwhile, EJ Smith and Zach Berman consistently pointed out it was going to be patullo a couples before the Super Bowl. It was a horribly kept secret

I assume you meant other coaches are passing but so far we know McDaniel passing only and this report sort leaves room for any other result which she can claim fits her narrative i.e. Daboll could go to Eagles, other coaches could go to Eagles. This things she claims are true like the autonomy offers or McDaniel's reasoning we have no way of knowing if true. These people are like fortune tellers. They take a grain of knowledge and build stories around them

I think that argument applies to Desai even tho still a bad choice. But yes we all knew Nick wanted his guy and when they won the SB then he got him.

Yes, but the future of the offense is going in a younger direction. In 2026 it might not be the problem. But in 2027 and 2028 it is going to be. So if I’m an offensive coordinator there’s still question marks about what my team is going to look like in 2026. You can’t just predict everybody’s gonna be back because it doesn’t work that way usually.

Add on I’m an evaluating that in 2027 in 2028. It is going to be much different. So the coaches are going to have to be better because they’re gonna have to develop that young talent. They cannot just be over reliant on the fact we are more talented than you. That is slowly going to drift away. It’s why you shouldn’t hire somebody that’s just gonna be like oh we have more talent than them. We’ll just get by the talent. Because the day is coming, where you’re not gonna be the most talented team and you’re gonna have to actually scheme for your guys to be better. And develop them to be better.

Desai was a different set of circumstance. Gannon was a dbag and didn’t say anything about potentially leaving for the Cardinals. That didn’t come out until like the week of the Super Bowl ?he know the eagles got that higher 3rd rounder with that cardinals trade). So that one I can actually understand how they got screwed. We knew Moore was leaving to take that Saints job since the divisional round. It wasn’t I can’t believe Kellen Moore just left. It was known for like a month prior to that Super Bowl that he was leaving to go to the Saints. They just couldn’t announce it until after the Super Bowl.

He is. I also think it’s alluding to this roster is also not going to be as offensively establish and gifted players going forward so hiring a retread that hasn’t done a great job developing is not the way to go

Yep. I agree with that assessment. Everyone is one year older. DG is likely gone but even if he’s not, he’s not the same player he was. Who knows how Barkley or Lane looks next year etc. Even a guy like Dotson who wasn’t utilized a ton will probably need to be replaced with Cooper or someone cheap and who knows what that looks like.

It’s no secret they need to start shifting money to Defense and away from Offense.

I think in theory it sounds great. We’ll just identify two or three guys this year. And then keep doing the same thing. It works if you hit at the rate that howie Roseman has over the last couple of years on defense. However, I think you’re banking on a lot to think he’s just gonna keep hitting at that rate. furthermore, you saw with Mukuba this year as a rookie there was a learning curve. So even if you get one or two of those guys, there’s a potential for a learning curve. Cooper DeJean and Mitchell are more of the outliers in what you’re likely going to achieve with your rookie class.

Also, you’re just looking at starters. The Eagles have issues depth wise going forward too. They don’t just need a number two corner. They need depth at corner. They need potentially another starter at safety and depth at safety. Saquon Barkley it’s gonna be 30 entering 2027 and bigsby is on the last year of his contract. So potentially long term starter and depth. You need backup quarterback. Because Tanner McKee is gone after 2026 and might even be gone before 2026 season. When aj is gone you need a starting WR and depth. Currently if they deal Aj and move on they have smith and cooper on the roster for 2026. Need tight end starter and depth. They have nothing at that position currently under contract for 2026. There is going to be a lot of turnover, particularly on offense. In the next two years, you potentially have to replace a right tackle, replace a right guard, replace AJ Brown, replace your backup quarterback, replace maybe Jurgen’s or Dickerson, depending on how they look in 2026 and that doesn’t include the defense where Reed leaves, needing depth at multiple positions and a 2nd corner

The Eagles are not going to have the money to spend to add guys like aj brow or saquon in FA when those contracts to Mitchell, dejean, Davis, Carter, smith, hunt, Campbell (down the road) hit. Because they have such good players that they have drafted defensively they’re gonna have to pay them. So the money is going to switch from offense to defense. So to make up for that, you’re gonna have to draft well offensively to make up for the fact.

I think the offense is coming faster than what you think. There’s a lot of depth and starters over next 2 seasons that likely need to be replace and drafted. Not a lot of money to address it in FA

As a side to this the last couple years, the Eagles have been really fortunate with injuries. What we haven’t really had to endure is seasons where we lose multiple guys. This past season You Lost Lane Johnson for half the year and Mukuba for half the year. That was pretty much the extent of their major injuries. In 2024 the only major injury they had by the time they got to the Super Bowl was Dean. I tend to believe you’re not gonna be able to consistently keep avoiding injuries like that. That is why it’s also frustrating that the Eagles didn’t grab the bowl by the horns this year when they disn’t have a lot of devastating injuries

Slowik would have been seen as a terrible hire coming off his firing. That’s why he had to take a passing game coordinator job. Who is Callahan? The Titans HC at the time?

I think there will be, which is why next year as backups will be important. It also isn't accounting for Howie making moves in FA. He was able to add big offensive names and go cheap on D and now it's reversed so I'm confident it will work.

Maybe you think I'm being too optimistic, which is fine, but you can't be too pessimistic either and assume Cam and Dickerson are both done, Lane's not coming back next year, they won't draft a good replacement this year, what they get back for Brown won't help rebuild the offense, Tank and SB will both be gone in a year, etc.

It's going to be better than you think.
