It depends on what you get for him. Can draft his replacement or get a player with less of a name. I am open to that. He's not on the team in 2027 and is a lame duck in 2026 and everybody knows it. How do you think he's gonna act next year with no guaranteed money coming or a new extension? He's gonna be hard to deal with.

I'd be more onboard if they didn't need a OT, OG, CB2 and TE in the top few picks. I don't know how you toss in WR and fill those immediately needs. If JP or Blank leave there are two more.

Remember, we have Howie. Ha. Trade for AJ should yield an asset to be used for WR. We should be drafting WR anyway based on him being gone in 2027, at latest. The OL is going to need guys getting healthier more than anything or we are probably screwed. A bunch of rookies aren't necessarily gonna solve that fast. Fill in with guys like Becton and hope. I am drafting mainly offense in first 3 rounds and will fill in on a CB2 free agent like we did this year. Trusting Fangio and scheme on that front. Can trade for Isaiah Rodgers. Maybe he goes on social media to post some juicy stuff from the fans.😉

CB2 or a TE would fill in next year but the others are to learn and get ready. The pick they get won't be until the 27 draft.

I want a MB type vet and F Johnson back but they need a guard in the draft as well. Plus edge if JP goes and safety.

If we are good wasting a year then cool. He is still a top WR in the game who helps Smith by being on the field. You don't replace a guy like that and have things go smoothly.

I trust Howie but he is up against the cap and has some big decisions to make.

I'm the last guy who wants to waste a year here. I think Howie wasted this past year, personally. Had a young dominant Superbowl roster and here we are with more questions than answers. I've sketched out many times here what I thought of as a 3 yr window here to 3peat. And it was doable in my mind. But too many bad moves were made.

Lol so for the people that seem to despise AJ now

What are you going to do if Howie keeps him? Just bish and moan every week?

I love AJ Brown. He’s one of my favorite players on the team. Id be fine if he came back. I just kind of think a lot of this smoke is his agent and him putting out there that he wants out. I’m not sure just replacing the OC is going to be enough to just make him happy.

But I’ve also said this, I think some of his issue is related to his last big payday after 2026. Because he knows at the end of 2026, he only has $4 million in guaranteed money. I think if you gave him an extension, some of his unhappiness would go away. Not all of it but some of it. That said I don’t see the Eagles being the team that wants to give him an extension at 30.

I feel sad for our future. I trust in Howie, but damn , I need 1 more Lombardi Trophy. Please.

All good. Fix the OC issue and we're back on track. Losing this year was avoidable so stings but is correctable. Hurts should be better because his nuts will be on the barbecue.

somewhere tom Brady is telling the raiders to draft him.

No extension for AJ. Hell no! Premature extension was given to him last time. He was happy for a minute exactly. Did that for Barkley after year 1. These guys cash out and seem to lose their hunger. Didn't like that move either. Not here to make AJ happy and worry about that.

People who want to trade Brown aren't thinking about the fact they have 2 maybe 3 seasons left of Hurts who is 28 in August. Wasting one without him having two good WRs is nuts to me.

They don’t pass enough for it to matter.

With hint sight, the team wasted a season with a subpar OC. It might not be as good as the SB season with an injured OL, but the bulk was still in place. The team might not advance all the way to SB, but should not exit the playoff this early. As a GM, Howie would take some blame for this, but the Nick should bear more though.

No, going to watch him catch more TD's. New OC is going to unleash him. Am sure Lowie is tired of the tiddlywinks. Expecting a return to Eagles football.

Howie ultimately approves KP as OC. So in a sense he's to blame for that too. Howie had a bad year. Some peeps have a hard time saying that. I don't. He was great for a few years straight there though. I think he rebounds and recovers here fast and I give him that respect.

But that's why Nick is here. The vibes and connecting. He only has one job.

The guy is an electric return specialist, a real factor in the way Iowa wins their games.

Tbh there’s only so much Nick can do in that position. with the money aspect Nick’s hands are tied.

I kind of view it this way, AJ Brown probably knows his next contract is his last big payday since he’ll be 30. Along with his style of play. If the Eagles cannot fix their passing offense, and his stat line continues to decline, it’s going to be used against him in negotiations. likely he is going to get less than what he thinks he’s worth. As a football player, you only have a finite amount of time to make your money. when you’re done you’re done and you’re not getting paid anymore. So I can understand his frustration with the offense and if can’t get the passing game right. Ultimately it is hurting his finances when he goes to the bargaining table in a year from now. Add on there’s a risk of injury.

What a move

That was specifically about having high amounts of dead money on the cap. It's all by design because that is Howie's process and plan. And if anything, it has given the Eagles more flexibility than most teams.

It's by design but not without its risks. One of the risks is not having an easy out when something goes sideways with a highly compensated player early on in a long-term deal. Bradberry last season, AJ this season, maybe you can argue Hurts too if you think they've seen enough to know they need to look elsewhere. You end up carrying a player on the roster you would've moved on from sooner from had there been more options to avoid their cap hit.

Sad many of these guys did not have good lives after football

So, this is odd - Spotrac and OTC have updated their numbers for Eagles 2026 cap space. They now show only ~$11mm in starting cap space, down from $22mm previously. Not sure if the estimate for overall 2026 cap was reduced, or what's going on, but they are basically in agreement. And that DOES include the 2025 rollover. If they are right, we legitimately can't trade AJ before June 1 in any scenario.

Hopefully they are low on the estimate for the 2026 staring cap at ~304mm. Here's what it looks like if we try and retain guys:

If these numbers are correct, it feels like Phillips may not be affordable for us. Or Reed is gone. Or both.

I would assume there are some other deals they could restructure to free up space.

The kid looks quick but this is awful technique by the DB more than anything. Forget about wasting steps, he's completely flat footed until well after the WR gets out of his break, reaches and whiffs that serves only to slow himself down when he can't afford to be any more steps behind, and not a good trail to mirror the WRs movement.
