you and vikas are better at this than I am, but I’m sure the Eagles would’ve loved to have given hurts an extension if he played well enough and the offense looked well enough to do it. Cause I’m guessing they could’ve gotten his cap number lower to give them more cap space

This is a fallacy that reporters keep repeating - an extension can't lower Hurts' cap hit unless he were to agree to take less money in 2026 than currently guaranteed (which he would never do). They already are amortizing his bonus payments over 5 years thanks to all the void years, and you can't stretch them any further. The amortization of his prior bonuses is locked in.

Saving money on an extension/restructuring requires converting base salary into a bonus. All his base salaries are already league minimum.

There aren't. Everyone substantial is on a minimum salary.

Hard to say. He has a non guaranteed option bonus of $50M in 2026. If you could convince him to write that off completely and replace it with a smaller signing bonus and guaranteed options in future years, yea you could lower his cap number. I'm just not sure how those negotiations would go.

Right -- why in the hell would he give up guaranteed money now for more down the road.

Nah. Stick a guy with decent speed opposite Devonta and no one will notice the difference. AJ isn’t scaring anyone over the top anymore. (Not the version we saw this season anyway)

You people have no memory of crap WRs and are spoiled having two top WRs.

And we are also hoping and guessing that AJ doesn' t regress further and have any more temper tantrums. I'm grabbing any value we can get on an AJ trade right now. This is similar to the Reddick situation for me. The guy was causing a stink and affecting the locker room. We have a guy here approaching his 30s and knows this is his last chance of a huge payday. I don't see Howie risking this blowing up on his face in the locker room and he makes a deal here before its too late. Im sure Lurie told him to be quiet and had a mutual understanding on what's next here. A trade seems inevitable here. The guy wants out.

Yea, I missed the part that it became guaranteed last year which makes it even less likely.

They don’t need two elite WRs in this offense. They throw like 9 times a game.

Back when the receivers were a problem they were a passing team so it made no sense. Getting rid of an aging/injured WR that’s a cancer isn’t going to hurt a team that runs on every 1st and 2nd down.

Devonte had 64 catches for 900 yards and 5 touchdowns as a rookie with Reagor and Watkins as the other 2 wrs . Devonte would be fine without Brown

I'm still thinking we'll eventually find out the Eagles spoke to Brady unless they get word that he has another job on lockdown. Which is probably why Monken hasn't interviewed with them for OC(although the Bucs interviewed him). Still would be cool if they tried to sway him though. I'm guessing Kingsbury they just aren't interested in for the same reasons they weren't in 2024.

But aside from Brady or them circling back to Daboll, I'd rather take a chance on a Weis Jr, Doyle, even Slowik than hiring Cooter, Nagy, Kafka. Those 3 guys would be such a kick in the balls.

Yea, I think Hurts is the one that wanted the extension way more than Howie would like to but he probably would to keep him happy, if he had a better 2025.

And make Smith the primary focus of defenses without a legit WR2 and watch what happens. Teams can also focus on the run and not worry.

Again, you aren't drafting that guy high without pushing off OT, TE, or CB2 or OG or S or edge.

Obviously, we need to find a number 2 to complement Smith. That was on the docket of team needs anyway. AJ's days here were numbered. He can read the writing on the wall. You think he will be dogging it any less next year with very little guarantees coming? The 2025 version of AJ Brown was nothing to write home about. Trade Brown to Buffalo for Shakir and a pick and call it a day. Next year you get nuttin for him, as he will be temper tantrum city and ask for a trade in the media.

Ugh, NCAA just sold their soul even more. They approved two 4" ad patches on jerseys and 1 on equipment. I hate this so much.

Again, none of you people have an answer for what they are going to then do in the draft when they need a WR high and it means one of the first two picks won't be fixing CB2 or OT for next year along with needing TE/S/edge.

Just get someone it will be fine. BS. That's straight up WIP logic. You are a spoiled and don't appreciate or understand what they have. The offense sucked last year so the best way to fix it is to make it worse!

They will be just fine. I would say sky is falling is more WIP take than my take but I dunno…

Just so we are all on the same page, the only ways for us to get cap space for 2026 are as follows:

  1. Extending JD. He has a $12.938mm cap number on his 5th year option, and it's all base salary. So extending him could save ~7mm.

  2. Extending DG. We need to do this BEFORE the start of the league year. Could kick some of his 20mm dead money down the road. If he took a 2 year, ~23mm deal, could save $7.7mm but this adds more dead cap in the future.

  3. Cutting MC2 - this is 100% happening and saves ~$8.9mm

  4. You MIGHT save a little by extending BG before the league year starts

And that's it. Anyone claiming they can save cap space by extending Hurts, AJ, Smitty, etc. is talking out their arse. Only way to save money is for them to take a pay cut in 2026.

My take is that Brady has not yet moved on to OC interviews but I think that happens soon and I think the Eagles will make a full court press since they missed out on others (if you believe Daboll report). Monken definitely seems to be HC or Harbaugh with Harbaugh being very likely. Kingsbury and the Ravens seem to want each other which is why he's not shopping around. Maybe Minter changes that but I don't think so. I expect him there

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you and others keep saying that, but they don't grow on trees. How many years under Reid and with Howie making picks did we say just get a guy and they couldn't? They need to draft an OT in the first two picks this year so he has a year under Lane. No question that needs to happen. Roll with him for one more year and worry about it next.

Does anyone still believe that OC’s don’t wanna come to Philly bc of Sirianni and his "vanilla” offensive concepts, or have you finally realized it’s bc our QB is a far below average passer (and the offense has to be simplistic for him to execute it)?

I’m just saying they don’t pass enough for it to make a difference.

You seem to be forgetting the issue of the supposed "better" of the two, half-assing plays while stamping his feet to get the ball more.

If he won't or can't be what he was, it's only a hindrance to keep him.

Well your guy is only here two or three more seasons and needs everything in place to win. Blow a year then.

Blow a year? What does your post even mean.
