Before someone brings up this straw man I don't expect a million super bowls or to even make deep runs every year, but given the amount of money spent on offense I expect them to look competitive.

This. My problem is not winning a Super Bowl every year. My problem is thir passing offense has been wildly inconsistent since the bye week in 2023. With the amount of money we are putting into the offense, there is no reason that in 2024 we finished 30th in passing and this year we were ranked in the bottom third of the nfl. Some of this is on the scheme, some of this is on hurts flaws, some of this is on Patullo, and some of this is on Nick Sirianni himself. There is no reason that this pass offense should be as wildly inconsistent as it has been. Especially considering we had a historic running game which should’ve opened up the passing game more and yet it still felt like pulling teeth nearly every week.

From talking to a couple Texans fans, it seems he was a really good play designer there, but a bad play caller. Meaning the plays themselves are well designed, creative, and scheme guys open, but Texans fans say his play calling was incredibly predictable. It was run, run, pass every drive. And defenses knew it was coming, so they geared up on the run on early downs and forced them into 3rd and longs.

That's not to say he couldn't have learned and grown from his experience. But the actual calling of plays was apparently his weakness.,

fwiw that was a knock on Steichen in SD they didn't love Moore either. It is definitely a projection of growth & new environment.

I will try to address all of this at once. Josh Allen has to do more per game than Hurts in the playoffs.

Passing attempts per game. Allen 35.6, Hurts 29.1

Rushing attempts per game. Allen 9, Hurts 8.3.

As we know, if you do something more, the stats tend to regress towards the mean. While attempting more passes and rushing the ball more than Hurts, Allen has more TD's per game passing and rushing, a higher completion percentage, and a higher QB rating. They got sacked at the same rate.

In Hurts playoff losses, they average 19.5 PPG. A bunch of you were screaming how could the Eagles let the 49ers score 23 points and tried to shift the blame from Hurts and the offense. Well, Josh Allen averages 24.5 PPG in Bills losses, and if his opponent had scored 23 points, 5 of his 7 playoff losses would have been wins. In the 4 playoff losses to the Chiefs, Allen averaged 28.25 PPG, and only had 1 turnover across 158 pass attempts ( 39.5 per game ) and 41 rushing attempts ( 10.25 per game ). Allen's Bills, 47.12 3rd down conversions and 31:54 TOP. Hurts Eagles, 36.84% 3rd down conversions and 30:57 TOP. So Allen did more than Hurts in losses, converted more 3rd downs, possessed the ball longer to keep his defense off the field, and still lost games that he scored 36, 30, 29, 24 and 24 points. Meanwhile, Hurts does less in losses, while handling the ball less, and not converting 3rd downs to possess the ball to keep the defense off the field.

It is a 100% demonstrable fact, that Josh Allen has done more with less, and has done more than enough to win 4 or 5 more playoff games, but his defense gave up 30+ points multiple times while he scored 30+ and won the TOP battle, giving his defense no excuse.

Exactly, need a well rounded team to win. Point being, again, is that it takes a once in a generation QB to overcome an incomplete team. Every other QB needs a complete team. Eagles didn't quite have it in 2022, but did in 2024. In 2017 they had just enough. Is Hurts a great QB? No. Can he win SBs with a complete team? Yes. Can he consistently overcome the offensive incompetence of Sirianni, and/or one of the leagues worst offensive lines and an OC that we all know was terrible from the get go. No, he can't and no other QBs outside of maybe Mahomes. Burrow obviously can't, Stafford never could in Detroit, Allen can't even with a league best run game this season, Goff hasn't even with top talent across the board like the Eagles of 2024 (remember who was supposed to represent the NFC in the SB last season?). But, sure, completely disregard the best stretch of Eagles football in the history of the franchise and claim the QB of the team during this stretch is a complete loser who does nothing but inhibit winning. While every other QB crush people on this board have never play in a SB and never win it. Again, Hurts us not a great QB, but he has been the QB that has brought us a lot of joy.

Their running game was not good under Slowik. I think a lot of that was their offensive line, but I wonder if predictability factored into that too. I love the idea of a creative schemer and play designer. We need that desperately. But I'd hope the OC was also a very good play caller and sequencer of plays. If Joe Brady and the others are definitely out, I'm not sure who I'd prefer between Slowik/Weis Jr/Doyle

I pointed this out the other day, the Texans running game wasn’t good before he got there. Consistently bottom 5. And it’s really only been average one year since 2020 and it was slowik’s second year there when he got fired. Imo the issue is more that their oline just isn’t all that great at run blocking. I’d add their best RB over the last 5 years was Mixon in 2024 and that’s the one year they ran the ball at an average rate. Their next best back was either woody marks, Damion Pierce or a broken down David Johnson

If i was ranking those 4 I’d go 1. Brady 2. Slowik 3. Weiss 4. doyle

On offense he wasn’t getting the Steelers job. And not sure why anyone is hyped about that raiders job unless you believe Mendoza becomes a star at the nfl level. Imo i actually think Mcdaniel really wants that job or to be the chargers OC

I don’t think they would, but part of me wonders if the Eagles would consider moving Jurgens back to guard. If they got themselves a center they felt what’s better than Jurgens and could start right away. Or like Linderbaum in free agency. I don’t think they go after him, but if they did, maybe they think they can move Jurgens back to guard. have steen be your swing tackle next year and your main backup.

They really hired McCarthy to lure 57 year old Rodgers back for one more year.

Went with the local guy which Buffalo might do with Daboll. Every move helps fill out the unknown for eagles hire. Think after tomorrow's games it should pick up

Keep rooting for offensive guys to take head coaching jobs, lessens the competition for OCs.

McCarthy somehow getting to coach the packers, cowboys and Steelers. Quite the historic trio of organizations

I think McCarthy is a better coach than perceived, but yeesh.

Tbh I wouldn’t mind that hire except this feels like they’re hiring him because they want Aaron Rodgers to come back. Imo they should really see what Howard is next year. If he sucks then just be bad and set yourself up to go get a quarterback.

It doesn't seem like Brady will get a HC job. Not sure if Buffalo is letting him interview for OC jobs yet tho

I think we will all be happy if and when we sraighten out the running game. No QB is good with 2nd & long and 3rd and long. Even Mahomes looked like crap with a bad run blocking OL and mediocre RB group. In spite of a solid WR/TE group. This offensive line either needs to get healthy and/ or needs a couple upgrades with road grading types. What realistic solutions to improve running game?

-Much more Tank

-A plowing RG

-2 Capable Blocking TE's added

-Johnny Wilson return as a part time 3rd WR for blocking

-A willing blocker at WR that replaces AJ after trade

-Replace Jurgens if gimpy again

-Better playcalling/design and less predictable, like not running right up the middle on 1st & 2nd down.

-Fred Johnson as a blocking TE & 6th lineman

*Wildcard -More running from Hurts

Don't think we get back to being dominant as 2024 crew, which was a once in a lifetime run blocking line. But much improved will help everything else.

Kind of think the browns hire the jags OC simply because he might’ve been the only one that actually wrote an essay.

Think Buffalo goes daboll. Cardinals feels like it leaning towards Mike LaFleur now. Haven’t seen much on raiders but i could see it being McDaniel

Ahhhh McCarthy, a Super Bowl winner who won 12+ games three years in a row with the Cowboys, ahhhh! The perception that he's a bad coach is so weird.

Translation:

The Steelers picked someone else and he would rather refuse a massive pay raise than to be known as the Raiders HC

Seems she's backed off the Titans OC done deal if he doesn't get a HC job thing.

Josh Allen will never get to a Super Bowl and literally fumbled the franchise away twice last Sunday but every excuse under the sun has been made even firing the coach who had nothing to do with it. Then he cried like a ho 🤣

The coach is supposed to be a defensive coach. His defense had a lead with a little over a min to go in the game despite all the turnovers and couldn’t close it out

Buffalo gave him permission to seek other options. I’m not sure why everyone is so high on him. He does well here he’s gone after 1 season. We some consistency

We're never going to have consistency unless we get a new HC who knows offense. I can't remember the last time we had an OC for more than 2 seasons, probably morninwheg. Any top candidate who comes here you have to assume it's only for next year and hope that they get the most out of the offense for a super bowl. The only people who would stay here longer are Nick's butt buddies but unfortunately they're awful coaches

Realistically how many years do you think they will get out of McCarthy? Always thought it was cool how the Steelers have this long history of HCs being there for a really long time. Shame to see that era come to a close in all likelihood eith McCarthy.

I wouldn’t say that. Rooney seems content with .500 level play.
