Does the East-West Shrine Bowl even actually exist or is it all a goof?

Trying to find a box score to see how many runs vs passes or look at a play by play to see the flow of how he called the game but there is absolutely nothing at all like that available anywhere.

Shockingly, it’s on the East West Shrine bowl website.

All I can say is, heck, I don’t even know what to say

I hate to break this to you and others, but he's not the only coach in Philadelphia who started to have issues once losing important staff. People have been winning too much to remember what happened to Reid, but they really should remember what happened to Doug.

I still honestly don't get what people wanted him to do in 2023. That team was not winning a Super Bowl even if we weren't screwed out of Vic Fangio by Gannon. Some people act like they consider that a 'lost Super Bowl' year, but I really don't get that.

Were they still a talented team in 23? Yeah. Most of that core won the SB the next year. Did they have flaws? Sure, but most teams do. They fell apart because the OC and DC sucked and got shredded in Tampa. What I expect him to do is not hire people because they are on his staff and his friends. Same thing happened this year. He made horrible decisions and the results were ineptitude and massive failure.

I expect him to not sit by and watch Dickerson and Cam play when they are hurt. People want to point to injuries there as an excuse, which would be fine if Toth didn't come in and play better just to be put back on the bench for the walking wounded.

I expect him to not be ultra conservative to the point it's detrimental to the team or watch KP sink the team because he was in way over his head without trying to make any changes. He either didn't make changes and/or didn't know how to make any changes to get the offense going.

It doesn't get more wide open than this season, so yeah, it's a wasted SB year and that's on him.

I’m curious about how the conversation went with Mannion as far as his intent to stay here for more than a year. I get you can’t hang a guy’s feet over the fire and get him to promise you he isn’t going to take a HC job next year if he lights it up and does a great job. But I would think that they’re tired of the revolving door they’ve had at OC the past five years and would like some semblance of stability.

If anything I think they’re selling the fact that it could lead to a HC job

It's a culture issue to treat health as simply a mindset rather than actual medical conditions which needs time and teatment for recovery. If you are not allowing players to recover before pushing them to play, this will continue to be an issue.

This. My daughter dealt with a weird knee issue that went undiagnosed for months and during that time I lost count of how many coaches, PTs, and doctors (including 2 orthos) who framed it this way. It felt like nobody was listening to her and it was driving us crazy.

Trying to think of puns for our new OC. This is all I got:

Next Mannion up.

No, this is just not remembering 2023 well. In 2023, our starting LBs were Nicholas Morrow and Zach Cunningham for most of the year, do you remember that? Bradberry got completely cooked in 1 year. We tried replacing the safety opposite Blank with some guy from the Titans (can't remember his name), didn't work out. Nolan was a rookie and hadn't developed yet. Nakobe was injured. And who the hell was our slot corner? Didn't they get washed ass Bradley Roby to try to play slot?

The defensive roster in 2023 was NOT talented. I have no idea why people keep forgetting this. Then the DCs, neither of the two, were good. The offense was top 10 that year (6 actually), and the defense was 30th. I think the reason this happens is because people don't process that Quinyon and DeJean being drafted and hitting to basically all pro level in the same year fixed a secondary that was bleeding out, and the sheer speed of their development means that fans block out the 2023 defensive roster.

2024 was only possible because we:

  • Hit in Quinyon Mitchell, who nearly immediately became one of the league's best corners, allowing us to move on from Bradberry, who did not even sniff the field in 2024 after starting in 2023.

  • Hit on Cooper DeJean which allowed us to escape the other dreck at slot corner.

  • Nakobe developed AND was healthy for once, allowing him to replace Zach Cunningham.

  • Zach Baun exploded onto the scene, allowing us to replace Nicholas Morrow.

  • Vic Fangio dramatically improved the scheme - the Eagles were SUPPOSED to have him the year before, in which the 2023 team would have been better, but they were screwed over by Gannon.

  • Nolan Smith developed because he was no longer a rookie.

  • We got Isiah Rodgers after having held onto him during a suspended year (2023) in which he couldn't play, successfully allowing us to upgrade all three corner spots in the same season. (Because Slay was injured sometimes, so Isiah Rodgers was basically his other half)

  • CJGJ was brought back after leaving, which if you remember, was a Howie thing not a Sirianni thing.

  • Milton Williams developed.

So basically, our entire back 7 except Blankenship and one of our DL spots got upgrades. This is not 'the same core', we replaced pieces at a team historic rate AND got the most influential DC in the entire NFL.

I ask again, what exactly did you expect in 2023? And why do people remember it that way? It's not even just you, it's like the defense was so bad people block it out from their memory and only remember Brian Johnson.

It doesn't get more wide open than this season, so yeah, it's a wasted SB year and that's on him.

They came into the year expecting to not have an atrocious running game. The way things are designed under Hurts at least is that unless you overhaul him as a passer, which may be possible but you need the right person - remember it'd be the QB coaches' job to do this by default - you need to have a running game to help him out, and make the passing game work. The run sets up the pass, literally. The fact that they couldn't run the ball BECAUSE of the injuries, and Toth was only mild help in that regard, still isn't good enough to set up the running game that helps out Jalen, especially with him being less mobile that prior years.

Patullo, being new, likely set up the playbook for the year based on that. Once the running game falls apart, if you do that, you're in serious trouble because modifying installs during the season is super difficult, especially for an inexperienced guy.

I'm not really here to talk about 2025 though. I think people are too reactionary, but at least I can understand SOME of this mentality. 2023 though, with the way people don't even remember the state of the defense has me ultra confused, and it's across the whole fanbase. It's like a mental block, or like protection against trauma.

Sean Mannion. New name, not a coaching lifer, but has no real track record. I will say this, this team's recent history of success has been linked to journeyman backup QBs running the offense. So, we've got that going for us.

A Nevada quarterback who actually sucks.

So Rick Tocchet is getting fired sooner than later no?

Glad to get off after a 10 hour workday and hear that we've decided to piss away another season

I'm not too worried about Mannion not having play calling experience. He played a ton in college (at the time, all time leader pac-12 passing yards), was in the league for 9 years, played under Sean McVay and Kevin O'Connell and crossed paths with other coaches like Liam Coen and was mentored under the great Nick Foles.

This isn't like Kevin Patullo, who hardly played in college and never played in the NFL.

Doubs is solid but unspectacular. I want the Eagles to add a dynamic player. A serious playmaker with game breaking speed. Easier said than done, but Doubs doesn't move the needle for me.

That's not true. They made a bet on an unknown. Not optimal in this situation but Kellen Moore walked right into an OC job from playing and was good at it. Sean Mannion could be very good at it or not. Most of the guys with experience as play callers weren't all that good at it so pick your poison

He shouldnt move the needle for anyone. But is a green bay player who should come cheap to help be another voice familiar with the offense. Im sure Hurts will never target him.

I also would like some dynamic players. GB has the speed of Watson and Golden, even Reed. And moves Reed around and schemes him open.

Smith could be great in the Reed role. They can use some more speed.

Don't want any part of dobbs. Keep in mind he fumbled the kickoff to let the bears come back and win the division
