Thoughts on the process and hires, with the understanding that we still need to see the end product? There was a lot of consternation earlier in the week.

He's totally out of control.

I was lukewarm on the Mannion hire as OC, but I agree it looks much better with Grizzard brought in as well. I think the two of them together have a much better chance to be fully autonomous and accountable for the offense than Mannion did alone.

Also, did anyone post the conversation that took place between Sirianni and Jonathan Gannon which led to Steichen taking over play calling in 2021? Hard to be a fan of Gannon the DC, but Gannon the person would be a riot to be around.

But seriously - if there was a terrorist attack on the city and someone dropped a bomb on Lincoln Financial Field and they canceled the season, do you think it would be Hurts' fault or Sirianni's fault that they didn't play. I'm in the boat that the terrorists dropped the bomb because Jalen bails out of a clean pocket too much and doesn't throw to the middle of the field, personally.

Early Mannion/Grizzard thoughts

  • We need at least 2 new TEs, 3 if Goedert leaves

  • Dotson can't be extended

  • We have to believe Jurgens can get close to 100%, otherwise we should cut him. He's not a perfect scheme fit given how much duo they will likely want to run. We can get away with it if it's 2024 Jurgens, but an unhealthy Jurgens has no shot.

  • Devonta Smith will be WR1, even if AJ stays

  • I think we'll still be a run-first team with more schemed deep shots

Holy crap. Time to throw, I didn't even think about that. Will we finally see a strong push for more quick throws and timing being made to be important? If so...

THANK FING GOD. I AM SO TIRED OF EAGLES QBS IN THE 2000'S BEING NONSENSICALLY SLOPPY WITH THE SHORT PASSING AND TIMING GAME. It has been nearly EVERY QB for us that started for a notable period of time since 2000! Nearly all of them hold onto the ball too long!!!

God I hope so, this would be the single best thing to happen to us offensive scheme wise in a while.

The "meh" reaction, and Chase hates on the Eagles a lot.

Can I see how it unfolds first? It's hard to know what to blame before it happens!

OK - I just don't want a bunch of bandwagon blamers jumping on after the first game of the season.

So, trying to digest this, I've come to the following conclusion -- I like the bold approach we're taking here. I feel like when they hired Nick, Howie/Lurie really committed to going young on the staff, particularly on offense. Nick is the first HC to be younger than Howie, and his first staff in 2021 had Steichen (35) and Gannon (37) along with Nick (39). They did an about face by going to Vic on defense after the Desai debacle (39 when hired), but obviously there was a comfort level and it has worked out fantastically. But on offense, we've heard over and over again that Lurie wants to be innovative, and that means young.

Mannion is green, but the Packers (team, fans, beat reporters) seem to be livid about losing him. His work with Willis was impressive, as well as Clements hand picking him as successor as QB coach. Bringing in Grizzard as PGC adds a safety net to a degree, but the most important thing is they have no connection to the Sirianni offense. Patullo and Parks Frazier - time to file for unemployment.

Will it work? I'm cautiously optimistic. But I prefer this to going with JBC or, God help us, Nagy. This is trying to be great.

I think it was more about him acknowledging that backup QBs make great coaches. Because Dan Orlovsky had the same response and he was on ESPN saying that Mannion and Doyle should be the top name's on everyone's OC board.

That's interesting. I guess he's getting the blame for JJ.
