No. Just no.

Fangio isn't the type of guy to "half fast it". He practices what he preaches. If he comes back, it's because he's committed.

It's not about half assing it.

Overall, I agree that Fangio would be committed and I want him here. But the situation still opens the door that he might just be 95% locked in. If he wants to retire and you need "heavy persuasion" to get him to come back, it doesn't create a good dynamic regardless of who it is.

Come on man. Everything doesn't have to come back to your fan bitterness for Sirriani/Hurts. Vic was in the nfl for a long time and had some very good defenses and never won a championship before last year.

Agreed. He took this job because he wanted to be closer to his family, which is also why he said he expects it would be his last job. He's been coaching in some capacity for 47 years and it's not a 9-5 job. He sacrificed a lot of his time on earth away from family and events. He made head coach money and was the highest paid DC until a few days ago. If anything, he probably just wants to spend time with family.

Vic is done, toast, see ya Old Man, GTFO here!!!!!!!

Bring me new energy, hungry young man Coach blood. Biting Achilles Tendons, blitzing 452 times a game, breaking a QB's jaw in anger!

Hell I was a 180 LB in HS Football and broke the arm of a QB when I blitzed him and stuck my helmet and shoulder into his left arm!! I was Ray Lewis (but a white guy). groovy

Lets get some ferocity on D!!!!!!!!!!

Meh I think it’s kinda like what Kelce did the last like 5 years of his career. Also all the old ball coaches are actually addicted to ball instead of real life, so I’m sure he’ll be itching to get back into this stuff come March

I think it's similar but slightly different. Eagles drafted Jurgens with a high pick who was a redshirt as a rookie and then played G because he had nowhere else to play. I think Eagles genuinely left it up to Kelce whether or not he wants to come back and didn't persuade him besides Sirianni buying him some beer. Kelce sounds like he didn't want to personally retire but eventually did, similar to Graham. Vic sounds like he's ready to retire but needs to be talked into coming back each year. Maybe Vic gets that itch back, and it's entirely possible he does. I guess it's just the heavy persuasion reporting that gives me that hint of fear.

All due respect, Vic Fangio is a guy you give that leash to. Period - end of story.

Settle down Uncle Rico

Potentially 18 teams playing an international game. It would seem like Eagles are playing one since they didn’t in 2025.

Has he ever had a clown like Nick? Nope. I bet the crap show from top to bottom almost made him walk. Facts aren't bitter. Also, Howie and Jeff picked Vic. He is a no crap guy and can't like what happened. It goes beyond wins and losses.

The media has clearly and obviously been trying to speak the 2024 Eagles downfall into existence. The bitterness they have that it was arguably the most dominant NFL team this century and that it wasn't a Cowboys or Giants team is palpable. It's been going on for a while now. From banning the tush push, to trying to speak AJ Brown being gone into existence, to Fangio. Next will be Lane Johnson.

It drives the views and click

Just saying Vic was a DC with Matt Nagy as HC

Agree with you, but when he got hired just about 2 years ago did he expect it being a 2-3 year gig only? Or is his "hesitation” now a result of something that happened? This is a young, fun defense to coach, yea we can upgrade a few positions but it’s not like our defense has very little talent and is years away from balling out.

Or was the SB the cherry on top? I definitely think becoming SB champs changes the mindset of players and coaches.

Maybe, since we are all throwing darts, he threatened to retire if they continued to run the same offensive system and once Mannion and Grizzard were hired, the heavy persuasion was complete.

Eagles fans really need to stop thinking everyone thinks like they do. Especially about Sirianni.

I want to point something out here: Some people argue that Vic was picked by Howie and Lurie, with no input by Sirianni - but this can't be true. Vic was already here before the 2023 season. Part of why people dislike Gannon so much is because even after being unprepared for the Super Bowl due to his head coach stuff, he didn't inform the team and so Vic went to Miami - rather than him being DC.

But if he was brought in to consult late in that season...do you think it was done with no involvement from Nick? Even though they were in his second year, were the #1 seed, and doing quite well? Even Vic implied that he would have been DC if the position was open after 2022. So let's call a spade a spade:

Vic Fangio was Nick Sirianni's first pick for defensive coordinator in 2023, but the team got screwed by Gannon, and so he ended up picking from leftovers.

I’m not understanding your argument. Vic signed a 2 week contract as a consultant, after the NFCCG up to the SB. Why couldn’t it have been Howie who brought him in as a consultant for the SB and then brought him back as DC?

They'll never give Sirriani credit for anything. Fact is he works well with Howie which a lot of guys don't do and he made it work with Fangio who obviously had issues with McDaniel. The CEO thing requires making it work from all angles. And yes that's why Sirriani failed twice because he made poor picks for OC and DC. It's just not as easy as some here make it out to be.

A lot of people think Jalen Hurts is a big reason coaches don't seem to want to come here, but I'd be willing to bet it's more Sirianni than Hurts. I don't know how anyone could look at Nick Sirianni's antics from afar and not consider him a clown. And I just don't buy that Daboll and others looked at Hurts and were like nah. I have a feeling that if pick your respected coach who doesn't have play calling duties were coaching the Eagles they'd be viewed way more favorably. Him mouthing off after that Bills game was so Fing embarrassing, I still can't get over that. Not sure how Fangio wasn't embarrassed and outside coaches weren't turned off.

He shaved his head. Best thing he does is stay out of things and let real coaches that he doesn't hire coach. It's not easy when you pick your inept friends. The guy brings nothing but vibes and an inflatable bunny.

I'm not a Hurts guy by any means and he was way down the list for even me vs Nick.

Ray Lewis? Did you murder someone and hide them in the trunk? That's the only believable part based on the unhinged post. 🤣🤣

Because we do not possess anything direct other than, among other things, Vic implying he would have been Eagles DC in 2023, I specifically worded the question as "without any involvement from Nick". This was not intentional and was designed to answer questions like this. It's kind of required when discussing these sorts of subjects considering the general response with Sirianni is "Did nothing helpful, ever, until proven otherwise with photographic evidence that has been validated to be legitimate by third party sources, while investigated and mutually confirmed by police and private investigation."

I did not say that it was entirely Nick, I was saying that:

  • The frequent source used to say Sirianni was uninvolved with Vic was his 'power being stripped' after 2023.

  • But if Vic was already here in 2022, and the idea was that he'd be defensive coordinator BEFORE said power 'was stripped', then doesn't that imply it did not happen without Nick being involved at all?

I kind of worded it specifically in response to questions like that. I know better than to claim absolutes without stronger proof.

Eagles run game coordinator and QB coach have been suspiciously quiet. Makes me wonder if guys currently interviewing for other positions could be in the mix(assuming they make changes there) and I wonder if these two could be candidates.

I was just more curious than anything. I think most people tend to jump to the Howie conclusion because of what happened with Doug.

There was nothing wrong with your question! It's kind of true that without very specific reporting on the information, it's hard to draw strong conclusions. I kind of took that into account. But I think the idea that Vic was going to be DC for 2023 has been fairly well established, and that was during a time where Nick still had decent power.

As for the Doug thing...actually that's a really good point, I completely forgot about that - if you're referring to how Howie helped with Schwartz before dictating staff at the end.

Fangio is undoubtedly sick of dealing with a clown like Siri.
