In hindsight probably but Sweat didn't have a great year before the ending and was injury prone himself. Was understandable at the time to let him get paid elsewhere. I think they thought they'd be paying Nolan Smith and now that seems unlikely this year so do you pay Phillips instead?

If you pay JP, you're likely saying goodbye to Hunt or Smith after 2027. They can exercise the 5th year option on Nolan for now - locks him in for 2 more years. He gets $15.4mm fully guaranteed for 2027. Helps keep all 3 here through 2027 if they pay JP. Hunt can't be extended until after 2026, so if they bring back JP and extend Hunt, Nolan is likely the odd man out.

I think Howie sets a ceiling on JP and either gets him at our price or gets a comp pick.

What about Hispanics and Asians? It’s only a problem to ppl when it’s black coaches I guess?

Best person should always get the the job period, regardless of skin color

Exactly right.

For whatever reason white people tend to go into the offensive side and blacks defense. Parker will get the Cowboys a few 3rds in the next few years, but it's an offense driven league. Owners want dynamic offenses vs being a race thing IMO.

That would be hindsight.

People forget that a lot of fans wanted Sweat gone heading into the 2024 season. When there were reports they were looking to trade either Reddick or Sweat, many people said trade Sweat because Reddick was such a good pass rusher. They said Sweat had injury problems and regressed.

Sweat in 2023 season had 6.5 sacks (Jalyx Hunt had 6.5 sacks this year and the pass rush was not great this year).

In 2024 the team had 41 sacks, this year the team had 42.

In 2024 Sweat had 8 sacks, then none in the first 3 playoff games, then 2.5 in the Super Bowl.

Sweat wanted to get paid, and they had Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt as young replacements with Fangio coaching them up. It made sense at the time to not overpay for Sweat. They realized later that they needed more pass rush help, partly because Nolan Smith was out with injury. Phillips filled in nicely, and BG gave some help as well.

I don't know if this is a good Edge draft class, but would like to see another one drafted, especially if they don't re-sign Phillips (who I'd be glad for them to re-sign).

It's a loaded Edge class. It's the strongest position in the draft. High probability Edge is BPA for Eagles at 23 when OL is their biggest need. Will be interesting to see what they do because they need OL badly. I'd love getting TJ Parker at 23 he's a stud. Not to mention if someone like Bain falls to them.

They'll never give Sirriani credit for anything. Fact is he works well with Howie which a lot of guys don't do and he made it work with Fangio who obviously had issues with McDaniel. The CEO thing requires making it work from all angles. And yes that's why Sirriani failed twice because he made poor picks for OC and DC. It's just not as easy as some here make it out to be.

Sure, but anybody could see the two hires he made were by far the worst options. Proven by the fact that Brian Johnson has been hired for 0 OC positions since his firing and the same will happen for Patullo. It's not easy finding a good one, but it's pretty easy to figure out who probably won't be a good one.

It still blows my mind they let sirianni make a hire after the Brian Johnson fiasco.

The new Bruno Mars song might be the best I've ever heard.

It's on par with Billie Jean, by Michael Jackson. Or any song by Seether.

OK fine, i'll watch another Bruno Mars halftime show

I'm not sure why people care. Society's always had uneven representation in certain professions. It's just how it goes. Some professions are dominated by women, some dominated by men, some largely black(like NFL and NBA players) some largely white, some largely Asian, etc. Unless discrimination can be proven, this should not be a concern. Not everything needs equal representation. Sometimes you gotta just let things shake out the way they do. The solution ends up being worse than the "problem" because you can't force teams to hire guys they don't want to hire unless you start trying to artificially force diversity which always ends up in disaster. Time for the NFL to just take the L on this one and stop obsessing about ethnicity.

Wait til you see the Associated Press's latest article about lack of diversity on the Winter Olympic teams despite migration. These morons think that just because nations are taking in immigrants, that they need to be represented on the Olympic teams now, in sports they've never participated in. It's tiring.

Hopefully Howie prioritizes health over talent. Please no more of the "he's great when/if he's healthy"

It’s valid in this case to question why there are so many black players but not coaches. But the answer isn’t to hire Vance Joseph just for the sake of it

I thought Brian Flores was probably the minority candidate that had the best chance to get a head coach coaching job. He still has that lawsuit going on against the NFL. I just have a hard time believing he’s gonna get a head coaching job until that lawsuit is settled or the outcome is made. Then again he is making $6 million to be a defensive coordinator, which is the highest paid in the league.

It’s not just head coaching, I believe currently there’s maybe one OC in the NFL that’s black. So there is a lack of movement from being a positional coach to an elevated job of OC. I also always thinking just because you’re great at playing a sport, does not mean you’re able to succeed in other areas involved in the sport.

This goes for minorities, whites and whoever you want to put in there. Michael Jordan was the best basketball player I’ve ever seen. Michael Jordan the owner was horrific. Same thing with Steve Nash. Great player but awful head coach. I think they are guys who are talented and great players that do have success. Jerry West, Lenny Wilkins and in nfl terms Mike vrabel and demeco Ryan’s who were good players and succeeded in other avenues.

In terms of Sean mannion, he was a fringe NFL quarterback. He was not gonna make his living in the NFL because of his god given talent. The only way he was gonna stay in the nfl as long as he did was to learn, absorb and be an extension of the coaches and be a lesser role on the team as a backup. So from the time he came into the league until now that’s what he’s been doing. I am sure there are minority and other players like mannion who have also had to do this to stay in the league then got positional coaching positions after playing.

Hunt is my #1 priority out of the 3 EDGE guys.

I don’t know what to make of Phillips. He gave a spark initially but kinda fizzled out down the stretch. Smith didn’t have a good year but a lot was likely due to the SB injury and then tweaking it midway through the year.

Didn’t he not get a bye week?

I tend to think we have a price for him and with how free agency looks at that position that he’s gonna get overpaid. I also think part of his issue down the stretch was that he played 17 consecutive weeks before getting a bye week in week 18. Your body is not going to give you best of your ability playing that many consecutive weeks. It’s why I wish they made that trade a week earlier so that he would’ve gotten the bye.

Technically he did in week 18. But yeah he played 17 weeks straight prior to that

Phillips didn't have a ton of sacks, but since the Eagles acquired him he was high up in pass rush win rate and pressures. How much the Eagles are willing to pay him likely is how much they value those stats.

Not a bye but he rested the last week

Word is Jets will likely name an OC today(likely Reich). If so, want to see if Bevell ends up being hired by the Eagles shortly after.

Kind of a selfish move to not let the alternate with two stable knees have a chance.

I’m not a skier, but that seems doable with a brace. Also I know more people in real life who’ve torn their ACL skiing than I do for any other reason combined

100% comes from lower levels. Where are the black QB coaches? The black pass game coordinators? Most of the cool kids club or Shanahan acolytes played random positions in college, weren’t even QBs.

Btw I have no sympathy for Flores, he screwed himself

Absolutely can see him as a QB coach given the connection with both Manion and Gizzard

You really don't need an ACL it's kind of a useless ligament.

I don’t have sympathy for Flores either. But that’s why he hasn’t gotten one though.

I think there’s more black coaches on the defensive side. I’d also have to look but i think a lot are coaching skill positions on offense. I’m not sure how many OL (main OL) coach are white and how many are black. I feel like most i see are white and usually recycled retreads

I don't know about that. I ruptured both of ACL's when I was younger. One was an immediate injury including MCL and LCL. The other was torn and I played on it for years, inspite of the instability. It eventually ruptured. What I know is the incredible instability after the ruptures...I was not able to walk on them because of the buckling. It is a very brutal injury and I have no idea how she can be cleared to compete even with a heavy brace...
