He may not have preferred it but I have a hard time thinking he put his foot down over that. He coached at Alabama, he coached under Chip, he coached under Doug and went through the RPO and then coached under Nick. It's not like he's been in just one system his career.I also don't buy the retire angle which is why I said he essentially quit. Nothing in the Eagles statement or Stoutlands statement even hinted at retiring. Was a tweet (someone posted it on here) as well saying he’s not done coaching.
February 5Feb 5 3 hours ago, Sack that QB said:After sleeping on it, what upsets me most about Stoutland is how thrown together this all feels. They came into the offseason wanting the Shanahan offense... but not entirely. Because if they hired Brian Daboll he'd be running a different offense. So they didn't even come into the offseason with one over arching philosophy. But that seemed to be their preferred philosophy. So ok, Daboll turns them down after McDaniel and it's "I WANT THE SHANAHAN OFFENSE!" Which is fine. But to authorize a novice coach with next to no coaching experience and no experience whatsoever in heading up an offense or constructing an offense to be the man who does that... holy crap man that's incredibly risky. Maybe Mannion will end up being the next McVay. But if he is, he's gone in a year... and then what? You just turned the keys over almost entirely to a novice and you seem to be letting great coaches disappear from your organization all to get this Shanahan offense constructed by a rookie and the dude could be gone in a year anyway. We are not behind closed doors, but it feels like Lurie after the season was pissed and was like "Come hell or high water, get me the Shanahan offense, I don't care what it takes!" And this is where they landed.Personally, I think it's rather short sighted to believe this has been an abrupt, emotional, shoot from the hip decision. For me, it's more likely it's been brewing for quite some time and plans that were strategized over a period of time are being executed. Since we only see the results of the plan it can look haphazard but I doubt it is.

The last report of an extension was 2023 so there's a chance his contract was expiring since assistants usually are only on 1-2 year deals. They could just terminate the contract which we'll never know. I guess they could hold his rights and block a move to somewhere else but that would be a PR disaster if they tried to pull that.I'm guessing they are open to him staying around in some type of consultant role but if he wants to leave they wouldn't stop him.

Tend to think sirianni is more likely gone in 2026 if things don’t go well then hurts. With how hurts contract is it’s more likely if he's not great in 2026 that 2027 is likely his last year and they have a plan put in motion for 2028 and beyond at the position.

Fran kind of touched on that last night. They valued that a ton
February 5Feb 5 This is the second time under Sirianni they've made a panic major coaching responsibility change midway through a season coming off a SB. Neither time it went well. Counting down the days til Sirianni is gone. And if Mannion is the real deal they better not lose him in a year in favor of Sirianni.
February 5Feb 5 6 minutes ago, ManuManu said:To me, it’s really not about him deciding to move on. I wouldn’t have made the OC choice based on Stout staying either. It’s more about how ugly things appeared to be last year with him, Sirianni and Patullo. It says a lot that our CEO head coach couldn’t smooth things over.Hard to say exactly what happened. It’s true that he’s had two collapses which did happen after SB seasons. In the end Sirriani will succeed or fail this year based on the O results. If he made good choices then the CEO thing is positive and if he made bad ones then he’s probably gone

The QB reads are not complex and he uses motion and roll outs to create match up issues. Here is an overview of some of the concepts: https://sumersports.com/the-zone/shanahan-schemes/#pa

But I’d pivot to him if he had interest. if I were the Giants, I’d 100% go after him. Why not? He’s the best one available. You’ve done a mediocre to poor job at identifying OL draft talent, and developing them along the offensive line. That would be an excellent hire for them.

Here is an overview of some of the concepts: https://sumersports.com/the-zone/shanahan-schemes/#paThe thing I love about Shanahan's scheme is that there is always someone open 12-15 yards down the middle of the field. Purdy is nothing special, but when he can stay alive long enough for the play to develop, that pass is always there. It is just back breaking for a defense to get the Niners into a third and 8 knowing Jennings/Kittle will get open over and over again.

February 5Feb 5 Wouldn't be shocked to see a drop off in Mailata's play in the next year or two. I'm not sure anyone on this team has ever been more invested in a position coach than he was in Stout.

And perhaps a new O Line coach might bring something new to the table. Mailata is an interesting case study because he's only ever had one O Line coach. Sometimes a new perspective can be a positive rather than a negative.
