I think we’ve been burned by internal promotions before but a lot depends on how this season goes

Some have said Clint Hurtt, and he was getting some interviews this year. I hate that Parker left, that could've been a deal to either promote him now or plan to next year. But if they do that with Hurtt with a year to prepare and start taking on some of the role to get more experience and make the transition smoother, hopefully that can work.

Also these were hires from outside the organization from other coaching trees so it's different than Siri hiring his friend or promoting BJ because he had prior relationship with Hurts.

There's a no zero chance Sean McDermott is the HC in 2027

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles! so the McLane podcast, there was a lot said and thanks to you and others who shared what was said.

Now the question I have is what is the reliability of those comments and what were speculation/guesses or opinions shared vs what was reported by any credible sources?

For example with Landon Dickerson, we all saw his injury and performance, his weight gain, and Jason Kelce said in his opinion watching him that he was never healthy to start the season. Every fan knows that, he was rushed back too soon. The comment about him wasn't about him retiring but that's now the narrative that's out there. The comment was something about being "uncertain" right? That could mean he gets cut, could mean he had surgery or procedures and starts the year on IR, it could mean this is a prove it year to evaluate and then after next season cut or trade him. It could just mean his future with the Eagles long term is uncertain but uncertain doesn't mean anything concrete, yet.

I'm usually wrong about roster predictions, but here's how I see it:

AJ Brown -- he'll be back next season. Howie will likely talk to him and explain the overall cap and that they're tied together financially for one more year. The new offense will be beneficial for him; if he's not satisfied with how next year plays out, they'll work out a trade at that point.

Reed Blankenship -- my guess is he'll re-sign in Philly due to a glut of FA safeties on the market. I've never really been a Blankenship guy and prefer the Eagles move on from him, but I think the organization views him differently.

Nakobe Dean -- he will explore the FA market and give Howie right to match/decline. My guess is he'll get paid elsewhere

Landon Dickerson -- he'll play next season but likely start on PUP to get an extended offseason. Play the long game and try to have a healthier version for the second half of next season. I think he can still return pretty strongly if he is committed

Dallas Goedert -- similar to Dean I think he gets paid elsewhere and a longer contract than the Eagles want to give. Howie will need to find a replacement TE1 who can be out there contributing in Week 1

Lane Johnson -- I sure hope he's back for one more season, but it'll depend on where his health is at. If he feels healthy by end of February, he'll be back. If he's still not feeling right, I think he'll inform the Eagles he'll be retiring before the FA period in March.

I think the Eagles should target OT, IOL, WR, TE with their early draft picks. That's a lot of needs on the offensive side, and it's not to say there aren't also needs in the secondary and EDGE. Howie has his work cut out for him.

More so that they did explain it and he didn't get it is how the leaks are trying to paint the picture.

So who said that? We already heard from Richard Sherman that Patullo is playing CYA and trying to blame others. We all saw that Patullo sucked and was clueless, we complained all year about things he did that had nothing to do with Hurts, like TE personnel decisions, run game decisions.

There's nothing wrong with any player wanting explanation and to discuss strategy, philosophy, and fully understand the concepts. If Hurts was asking Patullo to help him understand the logic behind things what's wrong with that? We all questioned Patullo's logic!

This is also the same OC that pushed legendary Stoutland aside and didn't communicate with him the changes he and his friend Nick wanted to make to the run game and now Stout is gone.

Fans had no problem with Lane, Mailata, and both star WRs complaining publicly about the offense over the years. Changing from Johnson to Moore, both AJ and Smitty were in an interview talking about what they look forward to in different coaching and everyone cheered.

So the QB - the leader of the offense - needs the idiot Patullo who has no experience calling plays to explain his logic, so what? People talk all the time that players need to buy in to the coaches messaging and leadership. Coaches get fired because of it.

Wonder if they will raid whoever on our staff next in line to replace Vic next season.

With Fangio likely done and the potential for replacing him with Jim Shorts next year it becomes almost imperative to keep Nakobe Dean. You're looking at the possibility of changing ba k to a 4-3 defense.

WILL Dean. MIKE Baun. SAM Campbell

You can keep that corps together.

What if they steal Hurtt roll

Well I mean the coaches are the bosses of the player. Even if the coaches may not be the best, if they ask a player to do something he shouldn't say no. Players resisting is how you get dysfunction. Players need to be open to being coached and coached hard. That means being forced to do things outside their comfort zone. I don't know if Hurts is or isn't, but the leaks coming out of the organization are that he isn't.

If we were moving back to 1-gap scheme, then re-signing JD becomes less of a priority and the 2-way versatility of guys like Jalyx might be less valuable. JC should love it. Would Nakobe get as many opportunities to blitz, and can he be kept clean?

Shorts is a good coach, so he'll work with what he has - but changes would be coming.

Tbh I felt like his Stoutland information was less speculation on his end with some of the stuff that happened and was stuff that he had heard from a source. His offensive line information he seemed contradictory on part of it. Cause one minute he was saying there was OL guys out in San Francisco and everybody’s healthy. The next minute he’s saying lane is still working back from his foot injury so that he could be 100% and then he mentioned Dickerson might not be back.

Oh so take DeJean off the field? He played in mostly nickel with Cleveland and with the Eagles. DeJean gives him no incentive to play a 3rd LB.

I'd rather just keep Reed, he already knows the system and team. Signing someone else is an unknown it doesn't always work out.

If they go after someone else in FA I’m guessing it’s Fangio that also assisted them in it. I trust Fangio would be helping in that decision.

McLane speculated and thought at the end of his recent pod hurtt is likely the Fangio replacement

Hunt from the wide 9 spot will be a speed to power phenomenon.

Id keep JD. You might be shocked at his 1 gap ability when put in that scheme. Remember he is a freak athlete. And, yes, you'd like him to be in front of Dean keeping him clean. Some 4-3s still utilize that one big DT.

Nolan Smith is the one guy who doesnt have a spot anywhere.

Why would you do that? You'd be moving him to safety since you're keeping Dean and letting Blankenship walk.

I’d imagine they’d process it post June 1. I still think they talked to him after the loss and caring season and in a month he’ll want to play again

I mentioned it last night, they could just let him ride PUP for the year like they did with Bradberry for cap purposes and officially retire in 2027. Or they would Post June 1st as you said. There's also options bonuses in 2026 he probably wouldn't get if he retired. I don't see the Eagles paying him $11M just to retire. But all those websites just assume he will.

There's a lot of moving parts to it.

1 hour ago, Sack that QB said:

"Expectation he won't coach this season"

This smells like the Eagles have it set up so he returns in 2027 if/when Fangio retires.

If that's true then they better not sign Dean just because Vic loves him.

1 hour ago, manz2821 said:

Its unbelievable. Its def malpractice. If he retires it will be on Siri and the management. If Lane also retires and with Stout leaving Oline will be the most glaring need.

Doctor's don't measure functionality when measuring return to play. The are looking at whether an injury can get worse, for the most part. If the culture is to push players back to playing and players generally want to play, then this is what happens.
