One interesting stat Zach Berman brought up is Howie's strategy for team building. His philosophy is to have a team full of high salary premium players and low salary guys and avoid the middle salary guys. The Eagles have one player on the roster who makes between 7-15m and that was Goedert.

I think this strategy of team building is highly flawed. It works if you continue to nail your drafts. And the Eagles luckily have done that between 2021 and 2024. But if your drafting starts to level out, this philosophy isn't going to hold up. Because if you start missing on draft picks, then those low salary guys will have to come from free agency and the hit rate on lower salary free agents is infinitesimal. Meanwhile there are plenty of mid salary guys who can blossom into pro bowl level players for you. The rate for that is much higher.

If that's Howie's golden philosophy going forward, it feels like it's built on a house of cards and whenever the drafting regresses to the mean, it's going to collapse. For example, if the Eagles lose Jaelan Phillips in free agency, then what... you'd rather sign a guy like David Ojabo for dirt cheap than pivot to a guy like Boye Mafe or someone like that? We saw it blow up in their face in 2025 at TE. All those low salary fliers at TE failed miserably. Howie needs to adjust this strategy, I don't think it'll age well.

Wonder at which point we will actually get to hear from Manion.

Of course WIP spin is they are "hiding" Mannion. They haven't traditionally had coordinators do press conferences at this time in the offseason.

I said this during the season, but steen is fine if guys like Jurgens, Dickerson, mailata play at the level we’ve seen in years past and lane is healthy. He’s not great but he also isn’t awful.

Disappointing

Don't look for the Eagles to use the franchise or transition tag on any of their free agents — including Jaelan Phillips, who is ranked No. 3 on @TheAthletic's Free Agent rankings. That would including 1-year deal at $28.2M or $23.6M, respectively.

Howie Roseman: "I think that for us, that's probably going to be hard to do. We got a lot of free agents. We're trying to keep a lot of guys together. I think the best way to do that is probably with extensions, as opposed to one-year deals."

I don't think they are hiding him. I'm just interested in hearing him talk to get a feel for him and also hear him explain his offensive philosophy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Howie never used the franchise tag again in his entire career.

Obviously we need to draft a kicker named Smack.

Draft the kid

There's so much variance with this offseason. It has the potential to go quite well, but also I can see the potential for all-time disaster. And I don't think any of the elements of either scenario are particularly far fetched.

If Jalaen Phillips ends up walking then that would be a little bit of a bad sign to start things off though. That to me is where I'm like ok the vibes aren't great. And I don't think they've been particularly great for a while now, but obviously it doesn't take much to turn that around.

Have they used it since DeSean Jackson?

Nope

Concur. For a GM who thinks he is a master of negotiations and cap managements, using tag that locks down the $ amount would be an insult.

We had Dicker the Kicker once.

We need Trey Smack

What is your walk away price for the following free agents?

Jaelan Phillips

Reed Blankenship

Dallas Goedert

I wouldn't go over 20 million for Phillips and 10 for Goedert and Blankenship. I doubt they are able to sign all three of these guys.

My thoughts exactly. He is an average starter, but would make for a really nice backup which they need more of on the OL.

It will never happen but I would love to find a way to add Harold Perkins this team. He's a bonafide stud. Wearing 7 for LSU means a lot too. Something tells me he'll be a Cowboy.

What is your obsession with having three stud ILB's for two positions, especially when the team has so many other needs.

I like playmakers. I like guys who make plays that change the game. I like leaders. Perkins is all 3. Baun isn't here long term. He's here 1 more year. Trotter is here yea yea. There are players I like. So be it.

It would be a complete and total waste of a pick.

Notice I said it will never happen because I agree with that. I'm just saying he's a guy I would love on the team.

$18m for Phillips.

$8m for Reed.

$11m for Goedert.
