They wanted to shift the money to D reasonably for their own guys while they go young on O with picks. If you trade the picks and pay a huge contract that hurts both causes

For as much as Howie builds on the lines, he really doesn't do much at Edge. His biggest trade I can think of was just Jaelen Phillips for a 3rd. All the other guys like Bennett or Quinn were 4th and 5th rounders. Even his biggest free agency signing was Reddick and he was only like $15M average. Even when you look at a guy like Graham, he's the most paid Edge Howie ever payed with a career earnings around $100M but then you realize he played for 15 years.
March 5Mar 5 If Crosby is going for 2 1sts and more than Garrett would be worth an ungodly amount of picks

Two firsts for a guy coming off an injury with 2-3 good years left is insane. It also precludes them from using a first for Lane's replacement and I'd imagine the drop at T from RD1 to RD2 is sizeable. Resigning JP and improving the secondary makes more sense to me.
March 5Mar 5 Are the Bears/Rams just going for it all next season? Jumping into some freezing cold water with both feet first, and then face the ramifications in a few years...........

March 6Mar 6 So I guess because of the cap implications it makes sense to re-sign Goedert to an extension for 1 year, and they better also draft a TE and not let that stop them from taking a TE high if they want. The following year that TE entering year 2 takes over as starter and Goedert walks in free agency, we get some type of comp pick perhaps. I even like the idea of drafting a 2nd TE on day 3 if possible.
