There was another puff when Parsons said Carter would've been in the trade to land him here. Eagles were willing to do that. Maybe it's a light puff but it's a puff nonetheless. The third potential puff was the Crosby rumors.

In fairness Carter for parsons makes sense from an eagles perspective. They would’ve gotten parsons at 26 years old who arguably is one of the best pass rushers in the league. I think they would deal Carter if they were getting a younger stud in their prime like parsons. However i don’t see them dealing him unless a team gives them a boatload of picks and probably a player. I do not believe they were willing to deal Carter along with picks for a 29 year old Crosby.

I view it more this way, based off what sack that QB said that they have gotten calls. I’m guess howies gonna pick up the phone if somebody’s calling. Hypothetically the Cincinnati Bengals could call and say hey we’ll trade you our first round pick this year, a second round in 2027 that could become a first based off his production and Tee Higgins. If they’re gonna offer me something ridiculously crazy I’m gonna listen to it. But I’m not trading him unless I get something crazy.

I’ve said this before I think anybody on the team is tradable. Felt this way about Aj during the season last year. Especially with Howie as the one making the deals. Heck i think the eagles would listen to deal on hurts, mailata and even mitchell if they were offered something ridiculous.

Here’s my opinion:

You have to remember that the person who’s trading or not trading JC is Howie Fing Roseman. If Howie Fing Roseman comes up to you and says trading JC is absolutely, unconditionally the best possible move for the Philadelphia Eagles, there isn’t a human being on this planet with enough know how to say otherwise.

There is always information that we are not privy to which is pushing these situations. The one with JC, the one with AJ, and even the extension with JD. I’ve been a Howie guy since 2016, dark times and good times. I’ve posted a similar comment in 2019, I posted it in 2021, I posted it in 2023, and I expect I’ll need to post it again in 2027. Literally what more does he have to do to gain a little trust that he knows what he’s doing.

Glad you asked. Let’s play the long game. I expect part was motivation for Carter to get in shape. He admitted he wasn’t last year. I would note that Carter posted a video of his working out to strengthen his shoulders. Plus, he may have seen his buddy Davis did just that starting in 2024. I suspect they got similar encouragement talks. I expect the biggest Carter news will be him getting his fifth year extension picked up.

Now Carter is eligible for a contract extension this year. I suspect the Eagles have sniffed that out with his agent. This could be a sign that the response was ridiculous, as I would expect in negotiations. This could be a play at driving reality. If there is a suspicion that 1) Carter is not fully dedicated to better conditioning, 2) the Birds think the extension will be too rich (like Jerruh did with Parsons), or 3) attitude not fixed, then what better way to sous out his value before the expense hits that to drop the "available” hint? That verifies value before Carter gets too expensive. Just like AJ, the best time to trade is next year.

A big part of my career involved negotiating. (Not sports deals). If it was my play, that’s what I would do.

I want to point this out. It might not be the Eagles leaking that to Jeremy Fowler. It might be Drew Rosenhaus his agent. Might be putting that out there saying look at all these teams that want him and calling about him as part of negotiations to say look at how teams around the league value him and why he deserves his extension this offseason and what he’s asking for.

Parsons said that playing NEXT to Carter would have been illegal, not that Carter was part of a trade.

I heard him say he would have been a part of the trade and he didn't want that as he wanted to play next to him, then a week later I heard the Eagles were willing to put Carter in the deal for him but not that they offered it. Cowboys wanted him and Eagles were willing to make the deal.

Trading Jalen Carter, short of someone massively overpaying, would be downright stupid. Hopefully it's all just complete and total nonsense.

It probably is Rosenhaus but as good as he is, I don’t see this as influencing Roseman. If anything, I could see the Eagles telling him to go find a trade partner willing to trade the right number of assets while also willing to pay him his desired contract. While I believe the Eagles are willing to move Carter, I don’t think we’re to that point where they told Rosenhaus to shop around.

You are assuming the Eagles leaked this to the media versus communicating with other teams and those teams leaking it. (Not that Howie would necessarily mind that if it played his way).

I think you’re making this far more complicated than it needs to be. I don’t think this is some 4D chess move by Howie to offer some misdirection.

I don't really care to be honest. He's too damn good and impactful when he's healthy. Short of trading him for a young, equal level edge rusher, or multiple first round picks AND a solid starting level DT or Edge Rusher it would be a massive mistake. Williams just went for a 1st, 2nd, and bust in Mazi Smith. I wouldn't even remotely consider trading Carter for something like that.

I don’t see it influencing howie either. I also don’t think howie is afraid to make a move even if he was not anticipating it. I think howie knows he still has two more years with Carter since he has that fifth year option. I think this is more of a ploy by Rosenhaus to try to get that extension done this off-season when I don’t think the Eagles necessarily need to get it done this off-season. Imo i tend to think the eagles want him to do what Jordan Davis did this past year. While Carter to recapture his 2024 play especially postseason.

I think Rosenhaus has enough connections around the league to be like well the Eagles don’t wanna pay him right now as he’s eligible for contract extension so maybe they’re willing to discuss a trade for him. And that is when teams call and ask. Then he can leak well eagles received calls about Carter.

Carter’s fifth year option is projected to be $27.4M by the way.

It’s why JC for parsons made some sense. Parsons was 26 and a DPOY candidate every year. It’s why i didn’t buy he maxx Crosby for Carter and picks. Crosby is going to be 29 coming off knee surgery. I think they would’ve dealt for Crosby but I don’t think they were coming close to what the raiders wanted.
