your first mistake was only gong with 65", but hopefully it works out for you.

My grandmother is silly and did not want a large TV, so we bought her a 49". It had similar issue during a warranty issue, and when replacing it, were able to get the next year's model of the same TV, in a 55", for the same price. So it worked out well!

I wanted a larger TV than I had, as I've mentioned, I'm taking care of my mother who has pretty severe health issues. One of those issues is vision. So the larger the TV, the better she can see it.

The BoA extended warranty people are already kind of pushing back, so I don't know if they'll cover it. I hope so, I don't enjoy throwing $850 away. I have to try to get a repair service to come and give estimates to fix it and I have to try to get the original 'bill of sale' from the Exchange (which is no longer available on my online account). BoA doesn't want to accept the email receipt that I was sent when I bought it. Without those to things being completed, I'll just have to buy a new TV when this one dies.

Just got back from my mother's oncologist. They're really happy with the results of her latest CT Scan. All of the cancer has reduced a little. So a really good report.

keep pushing back against them!

Yeah, I have to call the Exchange tomorrow (today's a holiday). If they have the original invoice, the rest of what I have to do is an annoyance but easy enough to accomplish.

So I bought a new 65" TV back on January 24th, 2023 in anticipation of the Super Bowl (but also because I wanted a new TV). I bought it from the Army and Air Force Exchange (website).

A week or so ago, I noticed a dark band of about 8 inches wide, going from top to bottom on the TV. Of course the warranty expired on January 24th, 2024 . Last night, while still pissed about it, it occurred to me that I bought it with my credit card and many times, your credit card gives an extra year of warranty, but not all cards have that benefit. After looking, mine does.

Just filed my claim, with 6 days left of my extra year or coverage. We'll see if they honor it and cover the TV.

sounds like an LED back light strip went out. happened on one of my old tvs. there are videos on youtube that show you how to replace it, depending on how tech savy you are. i ended up buying a new tv since the old one wasnt 4k, but i just wanted to let you know its an option.

Here's what it looks like, if it's something that I can do, I'd definitely be up for it.

yeah thats most likely your problem. here is a video that shows someone replacing one on a samsung tv. the process will vary between models and manufacturers, but it will give you an idea of what youre in for.

After I replied, I actually went and looked at that very video. Not sure I'll want to deal with all that with a 65" TV (all by myself) but if it's that simple of a problem, I may be able to have a repair shop fix it and the extended warranty through BoA would cover it. It's definitely a project that I would otherwise get into doing, though.

For those that served in the military, can you imagine getting caught saluting like this?

I can hear my old Drill Sergeant now (a Vietnam combat vet) "Get in the dirt and beat your f'n face!" (and that is a direct quote that he said ALL the time lol)

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m beginning to understand why old people move to Florida.

Maybe, the way he's saluting.

To me it was more about the Blofeld eye.

Don’t look now, but we are about to hit 1 million posts.

Be proud, @VaBeach_Eagle

2 Million is just around the corner.

It's showing as 1.9 Million, so that could be 1,999,498 or it could be 1,900,000. I have to see if the internal stats will tell me exactly how many we have.

I have to get an estimate for the Credit Card to pay anything for it, so I called a repair shop to see what they'd charge to give an estimate.

While talking to him, I mentioned one of the reasons that I bought it 2 years ago... the Eagles were about to go to the Super Bowl. Turns out that he grew up about 5 minutes from the Linc and is an Eagles fan.

From the description thought, he tended to believe that it was a back light issue too, and that it's likely not repairable because something (I forget what), is likely burned out and Samsung doesn't sell that item.

I sent a photo and short video to Samsung to see if they could estimate it without coming out. They replied, $350 for labor ($300 + $50 for an extra man), $535 (minimum) for parts.

That's a really good deal, seeing as I could buy a whole new TV of the same size for under $500... lol

Just got an email from the Bank of America warranty insurance company with regard to my claim:

Thank you for being a loyal Cardholder.

This letter is in response to your Extended Warranty claim submission. Great news- your claim has been approved! You can expect $849.00 as a statement credit within 7-10 days.

So I'll begin looking for a new TV to replace this one, and also begin looking for the best room in the house to put the current (Samsung) one, since it still works and would be fine as a spare TV in a spare room.

The repair guy that I spoke with last week said to go with a Sony. I looked at some over the weekend and may go with one of them.

It's nice to hear they actually accepted. That's awesome.

Yeah, I thought I was going to have to pay $60 just to have a repairman come out and physically see it so that he could write an estimate to repair it. As it was, all I had to do was send a picture and short video to Samsung and they gave me the estimate via email.

I've had a couple of repair shops warn me away from getting another Samsung. I don't use the smart features anyway.
