I'm guessing Howie or his agent is "controlling" Wentz. Truth be told, Wentz doesn't owe us fans anything. We will hear from him after a deal is made.

Wentz is controlling his agent. Actually we have heard from Carson’s people. They have been saying he wanted out since December and he never refuted the claim. People have chosen to ignore that, but Carson wanting out is the reason why the Eagles are trading him.

That would be horrible for the Eagles. He says one word about wanting to be traded and the little leverage Howie has goes out the window.

He hasn't said he wants to be with the Eagles. There is your answer. Nothing more is needed. Some of you act like a guy who hasn't heard back from a woman in two months. Please say something!!  I don't know where you stand!!

I don’t see how Carson not formally requesting a trade helps or hurts his value. It’s all very clear Carson is the one who wishes to move on. His no comment last year was plenty to go on. The Eagles thinking Carson is worth 2 first round picks is what’s really hurting his value.

Something like that formally said during negotiations eliminates leverage. Yeah, he may want a trade and other teams know it, but by not saying something he can still come back. If he burns the bridge down there is no going back and the price drops lower. That's why.

Dude hates Wentz so much he wants him to hang billboards nation wide so all the Eagles get is a ST safety and some warm Gatorade.

For fans that spin might work, but his teammates really know what’s up. At this point there is no going back. He’s gonna be killed by the media if he’s back. The Eagles front office will look like fools if he’s back. The first sign of struggle he will be mercilessly booed. If he can’t handle Hurts now then how is he gonna handle most of the city against him? At that point the Eagles would be lucky to dump him for a 7th round pick.

It’s okay. We know you will take you boo back even if he wants nothing to do with you.

A team in cap purgatory with a disgruntled qb with a massive salary and cap hit?

Mailata looks like he could start for the next decade and currently costs peanuts so would do nothing to help the cap, no way you trade a 23 year old starting caliber left tackle if you're serious about rebuilding.

Am I the only one with that feeling that we will not be very happy with the result of the trade after we it happens?...if it happens...

I don't understand why people are still crying because Carson's silence. It's like, somehow ... well ... we just need something else to blame him for and gripe about.

Is this loser cry baby off our roster yet?

The QB of a football team needs to be a winner not a whiner.

So a guy that doesn't whine to the public is a crybaby? Got it. Is it possible for some Philly fans to be any dumber?

Our reputation as the biggest a-holes in football is well deserved.

If it happens is right, now in the picture is Tribusky and Carr, who in their right mind wants Wentz over Carr?

That is why it is so important to some of them that he breaks his silence. They are already calling him a whiner and a crybaby --- Now they need him to prove it.

I still have this feeling that Howie has overplayed his hand, and that the offers he got (assuming he actually did get any offers!) earlier in the week, are now possibly being re-evaluated by the offering teams, and he will end up trading him for far less than he could have got...

I feel that he has been too concerned about trying to play teams off against each other, and now it's possibly backfired. Howie was living off his 2017 reputation for so long, and now he doesn't even have that to fall back on...but when you are one of the owner's closest friends, you can (effectively) do nothing wrong!

This week was probably the optimum time to finalise a trade, and the closer we get to Wentz getting his roster bonus, the less leverage the Eagles have in a trade...and other teams aren't stupid, they realise this.

Oh, and Mariota.

I don’t care if they ship him out for a third at this point.

Whining behind closed doors is still whining. What's the difference? Guy is clearly a whiny loser who doesn't have the mental makeup to be great. Now things aren't going his way and he's demanding a trade. Probably why he went to North Dakota State, he couldn't handle possibly not being the grand poobah at a D1 school.

Oh I agree 100%. If they want Mailata I'm bending them over.  No lube.

At the same time... we are the team with two startable QBs under contract. There are teams with zero (Colts). If Jim Irsay and Frank Reich want Carson Wentz, Chris Ballard is going to have to check his ego and do what his boss and HC want. So yeah this definitely feels like a standoff. But Howie does have leverage. And it goes up if Lurie has okay'd him paying Wentz the 10M in March. Bc now this just goes into draft season.

I totally get people who don't think Howie has leverage. But if you're one of these teams calling for the enigma Wentz (is he going to stay healthy behind a healthy offensive line and produce/show glimpses of 2017 or is he broken and last years version is what he is), you don't just get him for free. High risk, high reward. Not zero risk, high reward, that's not how it works.

Also, save the crying about his contract. The only team getting f'd on his contract is the Eagles. So don't use that as leverage. Once he's in your building and Eagles pay their side his deal over the next two years ranks him as the 19th highest paid QB. A lot of teams can stomach that, to take a chance and see if this guy still has "it."

Dead cap hit goes from 34 to 59 million the 3rd day of the league year.  Carson has to be traded by March 19th, if not he is here for 2021.

damn, my bad. I thought the third day of the league year meant he was only due another 10M for some reason. Yeah that's not great.

That was exactly my point in my earlier post...$34m in dead cap is already massively higher than any previous dead cap hit by any team, ever...now make that $59m and I doubt even the Eagles would take that hit just to hit restart...

I think I read somewhere that if Wentz was traded post March 19th, along with losing Ertz, DeSean and Alshon, that would total about $85m in dead money in '21...that's over 45% of your cap on people not even on your roster...Wow!

You do if you that's what it takes to get the deal done. Gotta give up something of value.
