They didn't say at the announcement initially, but everyone assumes it's a variant in another universe.

I’ve seen a lot of great things on the internet, this falls into the perfection category. 😂

Ok, fine.  But I still don't see how this works from a casting standpoint.  RDJ was a PERFECT casting for a rich, arrogant and then (emotionally tortured?  Guilt ridden?) Tony Stark.  Isn't Victor von Doom basically a brooding genius who goes full evil?*  Not sure if RDJ is emo enough.**

This feels like the producers were thinking "Man, people love RDJ in marvel movies, lets bring him back in to help bring the brand back"  and has serious potential for people to reject it because they can only see Tony Stark.

*Disclaimer: Never read a single comic in my life.

**Not dismissing that RDJ has range.  He isn't Johnny Depp.  But may be a huge stretch to make it believeable.

Talk is he originally auditioned for Dr Doom all those years ago and they offered him Iron Man instead - so RDJ has some history with that character.  Perhaps he is a Tony Stark variant in the god awful multiverse, but grew up elsewhere in the world and found a different path. Still ego maniacal, but on a different side of the coin.

It sounds like the Russo Bros were a key part of the deal with RDJ (he asked for them vs they wanted him).  Kevin Feige is very much trying to move from phase 4 and 5, and RDJ is a great way to make people forget about the Marvels etc and give him the breathing space to realign the Marvel project.  Time will tell.

Marvel would bring RDJ back as Ms. Marvel if that's what he wanted.

It was awesome. Haven't laughed that much in a movie theatre in years.

I loved the first two Deadpools, but this one? I dunno it's not got that much of a storyline (apparently Reynolds was lead writer on this one and for me that shows badly), it doesn't spend any time explaining what happened since the last one, or that much explaining why the underlying plot is happening in this one.

It's like a Deadpool and Wolverine skit show, some of them are proper belly laugh funny, but overall it doesn't feel like a thought out movie, more a two hour long punchline for the Jackman / Wolverine references in the first two with an overload of fan service nods rather than a proper plot. It doesn't help that everyone has seen the Deadpool makes drugs and gay sex references schtick twice before and it really feels like Reynolds is forcing some of them by turning it up to eleven here.

I didn't dislike it, it's just oddly underwhelming and not a patch on the first two. One of the proper reviews I saw accused it of disappearing up it's own self satisfied arse, and while I don't completely agree I can definitely see where he was coming from.

F NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Deadpool and Wolverine has objectively a worse storyline than the previous 2 movies but I absolutely LOVED it. It's a complete unapologetic nostalgia circle jerk for anyone who grew up watching those wonderfully terrible early marvel movies (Blade, Daredevil, Elektra Fantastic 4) and the 90s early 2000s X-Men content. It'll be disappointing for a lot of viewers. Not bad but not excited. But if you're in that demographic like you're in for a ride.

See, I thought the plot in Deadpool 2 was terrible and all over the place. This one IMO had a clear, simple plot which served as a way to make it possible to have Wolverine in it, plus make certain spoiler elements possible. And it was entertaining. Part 1 was good but depressing & dark. Part 2 was mostly boring & silly.

My cousin had to explain so much of that in real-time. I somehow was not even aware that

Spoiler

Chris Evans was Human Torch.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm alba.

Saw the new wolverine movie. Some laughs. Tatum should not be wearing the Gambet face garb, looks like a movie photo chop from 2003. Johnny Storm was fun, seems Chris Evans had fun not playing CA. The main villan from the Void...should either eat a sammich or always wear thrtlenecks. Notice how i didn't comment on the story/plot.

But holy crap the deadpool cameo was great!

To be fair, that was kinda the point. Same goes for his over the top accent. They went as 90s show/comic book accurate as possible. Down to wolverine's cowl. Like I said, nostalgia circle jerk.

Spoiler

shame they didn't get cameos by the first two (david banners) hulks.
