I saw some screenshots on X about the CGI being bad in places, but I ain't gonna pay £15+ to confirm 😂.

This film was reportedly quite political/progressive at one point as a follow on from the TV program but I'm glad that got removed and the film is just an ok mid level MCU sort of film.  Some times all you need to fill your hunger is some fast food.

I am looking forward to Daredevil.  I pray to the baby Jeebus that is good.  Just rewatching the Netflix series on Blu Ray to get caught up!

Just got back from watching the new capt. (Cheap movie night ftw!) Anyway, I thought it was good. One of the better post-endgame movies. Also, the end credit is definitely not worthless.

Only gripes I have are small and dumb, I'll spoiler them, but they're really not giving too much away

Spoiler

So, the secret service agents near the end of the movie have Glock G18's (the "legal" full auto Glock) but never let them go full auto. If you show the glizzy with the swizzy, you need to use the swizzy

Same scene, agent with an m4 let's it eat but the rate of fire much slower. Sounded like an m3 grease gun

Next 2 are just observations, but give a little more away so I'll go super spoiler

Spoiler

When red hulk is on top of the white house, he uses the flag as a spear and throws it at a Blackhawk drone. All I could think of was this

image.gif.39685e6d9376313784b95f70bf7540cd.gif

Also the Mr Blue song that the leader uses for mind control was stuck in my head the whole movie. Growing I listened to the Garth version a lot, it's a banger

And the post credit scene, is setting up secret wars with different worlds colliding with this ones, different versions of the avengers. It's the first time they've mentioned anything like this since the Dr strange post credit

i am rewatching the whole netflix defenders' series in order. just about to finish S1 of jessica jones.

That first series was really good - as in real life it seems, David Tennant is very creepy indeed.  I'll get to it eventually, but maybe not Luke Cage again. That series was bad in times

Was just reading an article about the latest Wallace & Gromit film and this stood out for me:

Quote

Speaking to BBC Bristol, Mr Lord said: "I think we have all of us been so delighted by the success of this movie that we think 'yes, we want to do that again'.

"Not because it's good business, although it is good business, but because it's so fun to bring those characters to the world."

He continued: "We don't make (Wallace and Gromit) for kids or families, we just do what amuses us.

"That's the only honest thing we can do, and if you're lucky and if you've somehow got the magic touch as Nick surely has, it ends up appealing to everybody."

Rather than pander to an audience sub type, in this case they do what amuses them.  A great example of where Hollywood, and Marvel, has lost the way.  They care so much for demographics, they killed the magic.

@BFit regarding the post credit scene:

Spoiler

It isn't a reveal, we all know secret wars is coming. They've marketed it, it's a planned release title. It was already teased in Ant-Man post credit with Kang also. The villain making a vague statement that something big is coming was underwhelming. They could have used it to show/explain where Bruce was (in this movie that was essentially a sequel to the solo Hulk movie. Could have shown him in Sakaar checking on his baby Mama and finding out about Red Hulk), show more of Bucky to lead into why he's in Thunderbolts in a few months if he's currently running for Congress (which was dumb), or other ideas.

I get that, but this is the first that any character has heard of any impending secret wars stuff.

The weekend figures for the Cap film are not looking good with a 68% decline from opening week.  I am very surprised, in all honesty as it didn't come out with a lot of baggage like the Marvels did:

Quote

Disney and Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World saw a 68% decline in its second weekend, earning $28.2 million.

Despite the decline, Captain America 4 still remained the top film at the box office, outperforming all other movies. The film has grossed $141.2 million domestically and $148.2 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $289.4 million. With a production budget of $180 million, the estimated break-even point remains at approximately $425 million

The thing is, the budget quoted is disingenuous to the extreme as they shot 2 films worth of content, so the spend will be a lot higher.

So I went to see Captain America yesterday… I thought it was fine and solid but I didn’t love it. I didn’t think it did much to move the phase forwards really (in fact it did nothing). I like Sam but I’m not sure he’s a lead character guy? And I’m not sure he should be Cap given he is literally JAG.

I've seen a lot of comments about Sam. Like the character (and actor) but he doesn't feel like a lead.

I highly suspect the film was a pivot from one idea to another, and thus it was released to get some money, but didn't really do much. The FF is the film that will do that.

A lot more he could have picked on, but essentially this is the movie.

i'm on ep 3 of season 1 of luke cage.

unlike in 2, there isn't a bad episode in this season.

I liked Luke Cage a lot, but it dragged. I know someone that tried multiple times to get through and they just couldn't.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through season 1 of Daredevil.  It shows where other Marvel streaming programs are completely lacking on many levels.  Its just so f'ing good

I loved season one of Luke Cage, but the last couple episodes and how the villain played out were terrible

The way they handled the villain was criminal, and they had Mahersha Ali who was great. Now he's going to be Blade in the same universe.

Daredevil was great. Jessica Jones and Luke Cage both started out great, but then went in some odd directions that were boring. Iron Fist was terrible, like a bad CW show. Defenders was good, but could have been better. Taking the best elements of those shows and having them now made under Marvel Studios should be better.

New DareDevil episode 1 and 2 were good

Spoiler

Liked the Spiderman and Punisher shoutouts. Can't wait for Punisher show to come back

Still voilent

Fisk being fine with Vanessa having a guy on the side is funny

Killing off Foggy that quickly was a surprise

Murdock was a complete hypocrite when complaining to the guy about not telling him that he's a vigilante. I had to roll my eyes at that

Curious if he killed those 2 cops or just severely injured them. Either way that's not good

Wasn't sure if I should create a new thread or not

I'm only part way through DD season 2 in a rewatch, but its better than I recall. I can see why I loved it so much before.  They had Ace of Spades playing in the background and showed a dead mans hand as Lemmy sung. So good. As for the sequence of DD fighting all the gangsters through the staircase and halls. So good.

As for the upcoming Marvel films, looks like Monica Rambeau (who few will know who she is) will have a big part of to play in those films - kind of like Vision in the previous films. I can't help but ask why?  And RDJ seems to be writing lore for Dr Doom.  I can't help but ask why?  It's already there

Yeah.  Its just that she's an obscure character from 2 less than good properties. Most people that last watched Endgame/MoM will be like, who is that?

The new Captain Marvel lol

There have been 7 of them I think

I think it was a famous Japanese game developer who watched the recent Cap film and was confused about certain aspects because they hadn't watched the TV programs and Marvel didn't go hey, you need to know this at the beginning of the film.. People will do that for Rambeau because Wandavision viewers drifted and the Marvels wasn't watched.

A rumour about a cameo is out there for Daredevil.  Nerds gonna get angry if that character pops up but won't spoil who or what ep it is, to avoid disappointment.

I’m going to say something that’s bound to be a bit unpopular, but I’ve never been a real big fan of D’Onofiriio’s portrayal of Kingpin. It just feels off.

they made him look bigger vertically with camera angle but not horizontally. King Pin is just pure mass and they haven't gotten that right with any iteration.

Having just finished season 2 - very good but season 1 is better - and the filming angles are absolutely different on Kingpin - you see a lot of him looking at you do stuff or over a persons shoulder.

D'Onofrio is shade under 6'3 IRL and is a big dude by normal standards, but not sure who else is out there who can act and is taller/wider? The Hound from GoT springs to mind, but he was deep in GoT then.  I suspect D'Onofrio is the compromise between big dude who can act, vs big dude, whose acting skills are wooden and they can't move well.

the problem with kingpin in the comics is that he doesnt have real dimensions. like, people arent shaped like that. so you either have a big jacked dude like the mountain from GOT and it still doenst look right, or they use CGI to make someone look huge. if its one of those options or D'Onofrio, ill take the later

Me too.  D'Onofrio is a good enough actor that his physical size doesn't become a massive issue.  The dude is flat out menacing when he turns it on.

The ratings are in for Daredevil's premier week. Not good at all. Agatha All Along performed better, as did Ahsoka and even The Acolyte 🤣. A shame that a great Netflix show got mixed up with Disney's general incompetence and ended up mired in apathy.
