Those of you who are parents, have you really never had a situation where you had to shower with your kid? There is of course a time when this becomes inappropriate, but both my wife and I have had times where one of our kids ended up showering with us. Sometimes it's because you're in a hurry and it's easier to get them cleaned up with you. Or you're traveling and need to be efficient with water and time.

Nothing in the diary alleges anything sinister happened. She may have memories of showering at 4-5 years old and think that in hindsight it wasn't appropriate, but doesn't allege that her father did anything more than wash up together.

I can understand that parents can have a wide range of opinions on appropriateness around these topics. But there are plenty of perfectly normal and healthy parents who have taken baths or showers with their children (up to some age of course), because there are plenty of people who culturally simply don't have some sort of "shame" about their body ingrained for one reason or another. And unless his daughter actually alleged her father touched her in some manner that is inappropriate - which she does not do - there doesn't seem to be anything to this.

Within that context, yeah it'd be rather weird if one of the few interactions with his daughter was to shower with her. 

Biden has long been seen as a strong family man who had an active role in the upbringing of his children. He came home most weekends (via Amtrak!) to spend time with them. 

He has been counted as a close friend and lauded as a good man by colleagues across the political spectrum.

In that context, it's not surprising to me that a dad who actually spends a lot of time nurturing his family life might have showered with his kid. If something comes out that she actually claimed abuse (which she did not, even in a diary that she did not expect anyone to read) then by all means we should investigate and dig up what we can.

But the fervor with which the right has been seeking to tear him down is pretty insane, even for modern times.

it's some serious BS for you to try and claim that this is because of some sort of "desensitization" to pedophilia. I have close friends who have suffered from actual pedophilia and deal with it to this day. the fact that I do not equate a child showering with their parent to pedophilia does not make me "soft" on it.

I wouldn't care if pedophiles were subject to execution, and I'm not even particularly pro-death penalty. any grown person, man or woman, who takes advantage of a child in that way can rot in hell.
