I see it the other way around..

I don't want socalism.... or a weak military, or high taxes, or illegal immigrants that have more rights and priveleges than I do.,I like having the police around when needed and not social workers. I don't like cities like San Fran that are safe havens for criminals. Or California in general with trying to push green a decade or so too early. hence blackouts, high energy costs, etc...

I can go on, but what's the point here...

Yeah, that's the ticket. Ignore ineptitude, tearing down institutions, cause Cthulhu is afraid of immigrants and afraid he might have to shell out another $150.00 in taxes.  Oh noooooose.

Yeah, our military is like 10 times bigger than any other country --- oh no, it might get weaker booo hoody boo.   If you are paying attention numb nuts, Biden is NOT AOC nor is he Bernie.  Biden is a centrist institutionalist.  He will not be doing the radical things that Trump actually did.    Trump is WAAAAY more radical than Biden.  Biden would keep the military on course, and he is NOT for defunding police.  Your fear stoked by fox news that all democrats are one and the same is way false.

Low information voters like you should not even vote.  And the president doesn't control California.  That's their own people and governor.

I remember 30+ years ago when Democrats were all about cutting taxes on corporations in the middle of an economic expansion with low unemployment and inflation.

Opposition candidates are often voted for in both the primaries and the general as a reaction to the incumbent. Biden is thoughtful, decent, and boring. He was picked precisely because he is those things and because Trump is a crass unhinged lunatic and the country is sick of him.

Spot on --  no need to read anything else in this thread.

Remember when Tip O'Neil called the press the Enemy of the People?  Or when Jimmy Carter ordered the DOJ to settle his rape case?  The good old days.

I mean, Trump doesn't really have policies.  Not in the way of implementing programs or ushering bills through Congress anyway.  His only concrete positions are just about consolidating power, eroding trust in our institutions and our standing abroad.

Democrats 30+ years ago had a pretty firm ideology centered around a strong social safety net, the expansion of healthcare, etc.  I mean, Dems created Medicare and Medicaid over 30 years ago.  Might want to rethink that one.

I'm pretty sure TEW's post is the product of this dogma that the overton window continuously shifts left, and that as a nation our policies are more leftist than they were 30 years ago. Therefore anyone who is a republican in 2020 would have been a Democrat 30+ years ago.

What's interesting about this logic, ignoring its inherent flaws, is that if this was true then Biden logically is the better Republican to vote for in this election.

Biden may be a moderate in comparison to the new hard left that has emerged, but historically he has been pretty far left.  But it's not just about Biden.  What I see is a Democrat party that represents a far more corrosive 4 years than anything Trump will could bring.  I don't think constant race baiting, rioting, anti law enforcement narratives, revisionist history in schools, class warfare and climate hysteria is what this country needs right now.

Sure, we'd have to put up Trump's annoying bragging and boasting for another four years, but he represents a far more moderate ticket that past republicans have.  Trying to paint him as an "extremist" based on his policies doesn't make any sense.

What you are missing Norse is that the things you complain about are happening while Trump is in office -- he owns that, it belongs to him:   "I don't think constant race baiting, rioting, anti law enforcement narratives, revisionist history in schools, class warfare and climate hysteria is what this country needs right now."

Biden being a centrist intuitionalist will calm all that down.   All democrats are not the same - don't brush them with the same broad strokes of rioting, cause some people did that UNDER TRUMP!    You want more division, riots and race baiting - vote Trump.  Geez -- I have to explain this to people. Duh!  Your problems are caused by divisiveness and Trump being president only of his base - not the whole country.

If you look at their positions, it makes absolutely no sense though.  Mainstream Democrats are roughly as liberal as they have been for the last 80 years, if not a bit farther to the right.  I mean, if someone proposed the Great Society or the New Deal today, they'd be in the far left camp of the Democratic Party.

You cite no facts to support your position.  On the other hand, Trump has stoked divisions (good people on both sides); said the heck with the emoluments clause (I'll enrich myself with this dC hotel); tried to use the military against his own citizens (park and bible thing); thinks the justice dept is his own private law firm -- and not the people's firm -- and on and on.   Now cite some facts to support your fears.

How about you back up a minute there chief and qualify that. Because it seems to me you've been drinking too much overpriced scotch.

First of all, it’s bourbon. Second, it’s true. Third, it’s worth every penny. Fourth, I haven’t had nearly enough.

It's not a fact, its an opinion.  You and your friends in here seem to regularly get those confused.

Then explain how trump is not extreme.  How he is not stoked division, how he has not torn down institutions, how he has not tried to obstruct justice; how he has not tried to avoid the emoluments clause; how he has not tired to strong arm Ukraine for his benefit; how he has not paid off a porn star against election laws - and so on and so on.

C'mon dude - do you have any braincells left?   You really prefer Trump with all that baggage.  And you REALLY think that Biden will enact Socialism on day 1 and defund the police on day 2.  Really?  Really?    What news do you watch daily?  Biden is what's known as an institutionalist.  He support institutions -he reaches or has tried to reach - across the aisle.  Trump only cares about his own ego, his pocketbook and suckering voters like YOU.  That's not opinion -- its fact from 4 years of data points and observations.

It's complicated.

On healthcare, I'd say we've shifted left. But I see that more as a bi-product of healthcare costs continuous outpacing inflation, which has led to demand for some kind of reform from the government to relieve the pressure many americans are feeling more acutely as the years go by.

On gun rights, it's been very much a shift to the right, as the so called assault weapons ban lapsed and states variously embraced a more "open carry" approach than would have been imaginable 50 years ago.

Abortion I'd say also has shifted a bit right, as states have successfully been able to curb access through regulatory approaches.

I don't know that fundamentally it's a defensible position that the core politics of the nation have really shifted. The practical realities of some core issues have, but mostly I think the positions held are just more extreme.

The alleged "actions" or "activity" are Hunter.  Not Joe.   He can't control what texts Hunter sends him.  The content was not about Joe from what I saw.  And I'm sure its all above board knowing it comes from Guiliani.   LOL.   This reeks of desperation for an October surprise.

And this will only backfire on your hero, who will try and bring it up in the debate, and Biden will talk about how its tough raising kids and the things they go through.  And Trump will look like the a hole he is.
