The left's talking point about rich people "not paying their fair share" is ridiculous BS basically on par with the lies of Trump. But it's popular because stealing from a small group of people who you've taught people to hate is always going to be popular (rich people now, Jews in 1930s Germany, etc.). Demonize a group and then constantly get votes by promising to punish them. I pretty much agree with the bolded and can understand your irritation at the "fair share" remarks, but lets not go comparing the 1% to German Jews in the 1930s...

The top 1% The international Jewish conspiracy Kulaks in the Soviet Union during Stalinism Illegal aliens bringing drugs and rapists Politics has always been about giving someone to blame for why their lives didn't work out they way they thought. They didn't become master of the universe like they assumed they would in the 8th grade, and charlatans get elected by giving them a scapegoat. I'm not remotely suggesting it will have the same horrific conclusion that we saw in 1930s Germany or the USSR, but this trick is as old as time. No one gets elected telling people that they may bear some responsibility for their station in life.
April 28, 20214 yr Republican Loons who think we should not have any taxes at all. Or is it that they just object to spending tax money on social programs and community development, while spending on the military is just fine, no problem. I guess without taxes there would be no public education, no highways, no airports, no military, no police, no fire fighters, no public transportation, no electric grid, veterans or foreign affairs, social programs, physical, human and community development. I guess some Republicans would prefer to live in this world.

No welfare, no Social Security, no Obamacare, no Medicare, no Medicaid. That gets rid of over 50% of federal spending. People should be responsible for their own lives. Now, since this can never happen, we should cut it back by (i) stop increasing spending, (ii) raise the retirement age for social security, (iii) means test some of this and (iv) repeal all welfare programs. Military -- Defending the country is one of the jobs actually prescribed to the federal government, but before you go on some left-wing rant, I support cutting military spending. Public Education -- funded by LOCAL taxes and property taxes Highways -- funded primarily by a gasoline tax so the cost is borne by those who use it Airports -- funded by municipalities, mainly through revenue bonds Police & Fire Fighters -- local taxes Public Transportation -- funded primarily locally by riders Electric Grid -- funded by customers of electric companies Veterans and Foreign Affairs -- Appropriate spending Now, do you have anything beyond emotional nonsense to add to the conversation?

Thanks for confirming what I already knew. Republicans don't care about the poor or the middle class and want to eliminate all social programs, but have no problems or complaints paying taxes for other things.

Or...and this is stunning...Republicans give much more to charity than Democrats and don't believe in forcing their views on others and using the most inefficient organization in human history as a way to help those in need. I love this fallacy that people can only help the needy through the government. You really are special.
April 28, 20214 yr Haha, tfw you realize your new message board political allies are a few news segments away from going full on "eat the rich!"

I mean, I love that quote because it is pretty damn true. The left kind of misuses it, though. It's generally attributed to Rousseau speaking to the Paris Commune (although the origin is somewhat dubious). Jean-Jacques knew a thing or two about the people and revolutionary sentiment. The full quote is something along the lines of "When the poor shall have nothing more to eat, they will eat the rich."

Here's the part where I tell you (to paraphrase Bill Kristol) that Trumpism managed to combine that same angry and resentful populism, and channel it into a smug and clueless plutocracy. It was an impressive feat.

You prolly didn't do well at logic in school did you?

I'm cool with making fun of Biden or Harris or whoever if it's funny. That stuff doesn't even have a punchline. It's like old propaganda cartoons from WW2. Can't tell if it's trying to make me laugh or inspiring me to bayonet someone.
