And there is something to this - after all, the gap between the wealthy and all others has skyrocketed over the past couple of decades. There's a much simpler way to having the uber wealthy pay their fair share. It's a modified version of a poll tax - a "wealth tax" so to speak. But the rich and powerful would never let this happen, so this kind of tax would be DOA. Instead, it's disguised as tax to fund social programs and things like the green new deal. In reality, it's just a huge spending bill filled with pork that will be inflationary and drive the average American to the poor house. And one way or another, the rich will be fine while the little guy gets clobbered - again.

September 29, 20214 yr An infrastructure package is, and has been desperately needed since W's term. A pox on both their houses if this doesn't get done.
September 29, 20214 yr I agree that the progressives should go with $0. That's definitely the right play for the future of America.

And you think you are a conservative… Newsflash: the USA has the most progressive income tax system in the developed world, according to the OECD. It is because other countries make everyone pay, whereas in the US top earners pay the whole bill. The talking point about the rich not paying their fair share is laughably stupid.

The tax rates are very progressive - but we don't have a flat tax. Factor in deductions and credits, and you have many high earners who have relatively low tax bills. And for lower earning individuals on wages or who are self employed, no matter how you spin it, FICA/Self Employment tax is regressive - and very much so.

So you just reject facts and data on this. Well…why should this be any different than every other issue. September 30, 20214 yr This post ^^^ presents problems for the woke crowd in CVON because it sets forth basically progressive stances. But the woke crowd can't side with me against one of their own, so they'll just sit this one out, or maybe argue against facts which support their progressive principles.
September 30, 20214 yr Oh, I see. If we change the argument to be about taxes other than income taxes… and the conservative rag comment was sarcasm. The NYT being liberal isn’t surprising
September 30, 20214 yr Vikas being lumped in with us woke commie heathens just because he isn't a Fing idiot is one of my favorite CVON trends. I bet his Tesla has a Bernie 2020 sticker.

If you don't believe me, go ask a wage earner. And the people who will get screwed are those who will be collecting and relying on social security for the first time in a few years and thereafter. They'll be in for a rude awakening when they find out after a huge inflationary cycle has set in that their social security checks don't amount to a hill of beans.

Infrastructure is a done deal. Democrats need to get out of their own way. An by that, I mean the "moderate" conservative ones (Manchin/Sinema) in the Senate holding up the reconciliation bill.

Nobody should be relying on Social Security to get them through retirement. You're right, it doesn't amount to much. But it is exactly what you are paying for, low-rate social insurance so you can at least scrape by with a little pittance. Start saving for retirement now.

It’s the only way to keep your delusional green dreams alive.
