The FBI has conducted multiple searches of people tied to the conservative political group Project Veritas, part of a probe into how parts of President Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley’s diary were taken and disclosed to the public without her consent in the final days of the 2020 election.

Justice Department agents conducted two searches on Thursday in the New York Cityarea, The New York Times reported, citing two unnamed sources with familiarity in the matter.

Federal agents searched several locations belonging to current and former members of the conservative media company Project Veritas on Thursday in an investigation involving the possible theft of a diary belonging to President Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, according to a statement from the group's website and an FBI spokesperson.

An FBI spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that "court authorized law enforcement activity” took place at an address associated with Project Veritas in Mamaroneck, N.Y., and another address on E. 35th St. in Manhattan.

The conservative group confirmed a New York Times report that the investigation involves allegations that a diary belonging to the president's daughter had been stolen. Portions of the diary were published online by a conservative website about two weeks before the 2020 presidential election.

The Times, citing two sources briefed on the matter, reported that the Justice Department has been investigating the case since October 2020, when a representative of the Biden family reported that several of Ashley Biden's personal items had been stolen in a burglary.

Flyover Media, the company that owns the website that published the pages from the diary, is registered to the same Sheridan, Wyo., address as Mr. Seddon’s company, Branch Six Consulting International. Mr. O’Keefe, the founder of Project Veritas, was once the president of a company that later registered at the same address.

The pages were posted online under the byline of Patrick Howley, a reporter who has worked for several conservative outlets in recent years. 

While the disclosure of Ms. Biden’s diary was largely ignored, some far right outlets and supporters of Mr. Trump jumped on the news of the diary as further evidence that Mr. Biden was unfit to be president. Alex Jones, a prominent far right radio host, brought up the diary on an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast.

The Project Veritas founder then explained that "tipsters" approached his group late last year alleging to have Ashley Biden's diary containing "explosive allegations" about her father, then the Democratic nominee, and that the diary was allegedly abandoned in a room that she had stayed at and that they stayed after. 

The "tipsters," who O'Keefe said he had never met prior, were apparently negotiating with media outlets to sell Biden's diary and that ultimately, Project Veritas did not publish the book's contents because his group was not able to independently verify its authenticity. 

"Project Veritas gave the diary to law enforcement to ensure it could be returned to its rightful owner. We never published it," O'Keefe said.

 

Looks like the FBI is trying to find copies. I'd suggest however that they can't verify her claim of theft. 

 

Um, Project Veritas should have referred "tipsters” directly to law enforcement. Because they put their hands on stolen property, they have some explaining to do.

FBI considers any threat against POTUS seriously.  The theft of Biden’s daughter’s diary can be considered a threat.
