She was a pretty lousy nominee. Her philosophy is clearly one of a more centrally controlled economy, which would be objectively bad for our nation and runs counter to our culture - which has cultivated the most innovative economy in history by its generally hands off approach to the economy.

I'm supportive of the government stepping in within its authority with policies to help offset market failures. But we don't need a more centrally managed economic system for that.

Elizabeth Warren is all over this nominee.

I understand Omarova offered some novel approaches to Federal banking and lending, that would offer private sector loans directly from government, taking out the middle men. Yeah, I don't feel so good about that. But she also has a stance against mega commercial banks, which I do agree. She was also the target of unfair attacks from politicians. I feel like it was a smear.

  • While I disagree with Biden trying to save these idiots from themselves, it just proves what a wonderful human being he is. IMO we should encourage Trumpbots to all give each other Covid so they die o

There was definitely some of that. I don't like that either. But that doesn't change that she was a poor nominee.

I'd be fine with a nominee who would leave the fed do its thing, but was more aggressive about trust-busting. I don't know if the role she was nominated for even touches those topics though.

Mainly I want a fed & gov that's largely hands off. There is a big role for the gov't to regulate, but ideally it would be less stupid about it. Problem there is regulatory capture and crony capitalism.

Land seized from a Texas family for construction of President Donald Trump’s border wall has been returned to the family by the Biden administration

It took some time because in-progress federal programs don't stop on a dime. But Biden got the right thing done.

F them open border luvin', amerika hating, commie land owners.

If he does nothing else, this is right and proper.

No malarkey on this one.

Embarrassing:

Eminent domain is used all the time.  Nothing right and proper about what is going on with our Southern Border.

This, from a corona kook like yourself who will allow a split in his family over the virus, but apparently has nothing to say about infected illegals crossing the border without repercussion

Nothing screams 'Freedom' like people turning their back on the government seizing a citizen's property.

I'd be happy to talk about illegals on the southern border. Building a wall is stupid. If you support it, you are stupid.

Punish those who hire illegals. That will solve the problem for the most part. Drones and border patrol can do the rest.

You're right man.  To show your support, I suggest you stop driving at once.  Ain't a highway around that wasn't constructed on land seized by eminent domain.

And you have the chutzpah to call someone else stupid?  Take a long hard look in the mirror genius.

You don't want a communist as comptroller of currency.

Smear! Who is J. Robert Smith anyway?

Why don't you explain why she's not, why she faced opposition within the Democratic party, and why calling her a commie is a smear (which implicitly acknowledges that being a communist should disqualify someone from holding a public office - especially one like the Comptroller of the Currency)

Oh, and let's not forget that little shoplifting incident she was arrested for.

Treasury can do much better than her.

Certainly. Omarova is not communist because she fled communism for America. She was educated at University of Wisconsin and Northwestern, served in the Treasury during GWB administration, and taught law at Cornell. She does not advocate for common ownership of production and withering away the state, therefore she is not communist.

About the shoplifting incident, it amounted to $214 worth of items while she was working at a TJ Maxx in college:

She asked to pay for the items, and cooperated fully with the security guard, according to the report. Her charges were later dropped through Wisconsin’s first offender program, Fox News reported.

I explained in a previous post where I did not agree with everything she advocates. Selling loans is not a business government should be involved in. Because I have disagreement doesn't make her communist. As if I have disagreement with you, that must make you fascist.

It is a smear because mega big banks don't like her either, and they will pay lobbyists to have politicians smear her.

A writer whose articles are "Impeach Joe Biden", "Who Believes Fauci?", "The Democrat Party is Extremist", and quotes Bongino and Andrew Sullivan, is not the unbiased source you think it is.

The entire country was founded on the principle of property rights.

Her point is that non violent offenders shouldn't be thrown into prison with violent ones.

Seventeen of the 25 most frequently filed charges in criminal court are nonviolent motor vehicle, drug, and property offenses. Data show that a carceral approach to low-level, non-violent offenses can do more harm than good.4 A criminal record often presents barriers to education, future income, housing, and many other necessary assets and supports proven to help people thrive and succeed in society

I didn't say I supported it. It's just not what Lyin Ted was making it out to be so I clarified it. I think the democrats are too soft on crime. That's evident here in Philly. However, I do think there is a difference between violent criminals and non violent ones. Unlike yourself, I abhor violence and think there is no place for it in civilized society.
