I am all for it, what is an abomination is the prices to go to universities which force people to get high interest loans,  sure you can say you are not forced to go to college but not having a degree limits you ability to get high paying jobs, that has been shown to be a fact

  • While I disagree with Biden trying to save these idiots from themselves, it just proves what a wonderful human being he is. IMO we should encourage Trumpbots to all give each other Covid so they die o

I'm just curious as to the mechanism/legal rationale. I've always said that outright cancellation of the whole amount would not hold up legally, and they seem to agree. There is some wiggle room to do this in a somewhat piecemeal fashion through existing programs, like what they did with the nonprofit loan forgiveness, but I'm really wondering what the workaround is for this latest 10k.

As far as the actual issue itself goes, this is a "bailout" that I really have no issue with it, given the propensity of our elected officials to bailout those at the top like it's nothing. I just would prefer that it be accomplished through the proper legislative channels. At an economic level, I think that COVID probably wrecked some situations beyond repair, student loan repayment being one of them. In the short and near-term, it would be better for this chunk of the citizenry to have more disposable income to be investing and funneling it back into the economy. Full resumption would simply compound the crisis and very possible fuel another recession. If we don't do something about the loan crisis, it will come home to roost sooner or later in some form or fashion of economic catastrophe and, perhaps ultimately, societal collapse. I say this as someone who zeroed out his federal loans years ago.

As to whether this is a vote-getter or vote-loser, that remains to be seen. The administration is obviously hedging on the former...

When average people get a so called bailout, people scream inflation, taxes will be raised, grand kids will be on the hook for trillions, when billionaires get bailed out it is we saved the economy

Yes Biden is doing so well that the DNC has to send out talking points for his pretend "wins" and they have to try buying votes via loan forgiveness.  This is going smoothly for you guys

He’s bought at least 10 more votes from me. I’ll probably spend a few in West Virginia this next time just for the heck of it.

Might as well talk to the wall,  Biden supporters have less grey matter then a wall.

I believe the word you were looking for is "than” oh enlightened one.

He refuses to debate grammar with a Dem.

Could all of the libertarians weigh in on their thoughts on student loan forgiveness?

When I took out my loans the deal was if I worked for a non profit for ten years and made all of my payments during that time, the loans were forgiven. You may not like that government program, but that was the deal. Had that deal not been in place, I wouldn’t have taken the loans. Trump and Betsy Devoss (who has made millions from the student loan business) cancelled that deal. I am happy that Biden reinstated it and gave me credit for the payments I made when orange Hitler was in office. As far as I’m concerned this is fair, and this is right.

The 10k seems excessive and unnecessary. I’m just happy the original agreement the government had in place when I took out my loans is being honored. For that, I am grateful.

I paid off my college loans 10+ years ago, working two jobs and paying double/triple payments or more, just to get out of that debt and onto my life. My wife sent her last college loan payment during the pandemic, some 20 or so years since she was in college.

Frankly I don't care if they cancel everyone's loans. Go ahead. The cost of college is outrageous and the interest rates are abominable anymore. I'm glad I was able to go to college in the 1990s when most of the interest was subsidized.

Instead of paying off lenders, I believe they should be subsidizing the cost of education in the first place. There should be a system of higher education that is truly public, paid by the public as it is a public good. We don't have to subsidize private schools, Ivy Leaguers, or whatever they are rotting their brains with at Falwell's University. You can choose to take a loan out to go to the top school of your choice. Or else there's a community college or public university that can teach you the skills you desire.

This wasn't going to make everyone happy. That was unavoidable

They are paying more in taxes that the Cali crowd.

:roll:They crashed the websites

Here’s a different story.  In high school I went to Vo-Tech.  Had a scholarship offer to Delaware which I declined for wrestling.  Stayed at local PSU  campus.
Got associate degree and went on to have 36 yr job in research chemistry.

It’s both. Not one or the other.

FJB

The Ukrainian parliament just voted to give themselves a raise.

The unanimous vote passed on July 22 just four days after it was submitted.

Joe Biden announced Tuesday he was sending another $3 billion of US taxpayer dollars

F them too

My wife used student loans a while ago when she got her associates, but it wasn't a whole lot of money and it's been paid off for a while. We paid for her bachelor's and her job paid for her Masters (we paid for the first two classes) which she just completed a couple months ago.

That is the typical liberal view of Black and Hispanic people- That they cannot take care of them selves, they are poor people unable to get ID's  have good paying jobs, or buy homes because of systemic racism.

it really is degrading to a POC to know that these idiots think POC are well below them.

Let us take a look into the past…

Trump uses the exact same law and declares immigration an emergency. Uses this law to bypass congress to divert funding, from the pentagon, to build his wall.

Trumpbots: Rheeeeeeeee MAGA Rheeeeeeeeee!

Me: You know some democrat will someday be president again and can use this to pass just about anything including the green new deal.

Trumpbots: that will never happen! Rheeeeeee! MAGA Rheeeeeeeeee!
